We would not be 54-28 as a team (winning 16 of 18) without sixth man extraordinaire Earl Smith.

Have you been watching the Knicks season, or stuck in Denver or China?

I guess he coulda done worse

He had a lot of no calls or calls against him. The one that stands out was the charging call when JVG said Pierce was inside the restricted area and should have been called for the block. Took away a bucket and one and gave JR his first or second foul. Whats up with Pierce getting charging calls as he moves into position or is in the restrictive area. Two or three times JVG said the foul was on Pierce when it was called on the offensive player. He went onto praise Pierce for sacrificing his body.

Denver or China? Hilarious ... a regular riot ... uh ... not so much

I want him to be efficient in the playoffs. Thats all I ask. I am not interested in the feel good daddy son shit that you spew.

I do like that he has started to go to the hole more instead of taking bonehead fadeaways.

Papabear Says

Look! JR Smith is human. We've learned to live with him. Some shots a bad but most are good and he does many other things that are very helpful to this team. JR has nothing to prove. you better pray he comes back to New York after this season because the offers will be out there for him. What you want don't mean a damn thing. Efficient?? just enjoy the game and if JR isn't playing up to your standard just change the Chanel. Damn some people are just never satisfied.

holfresh @ 4/21/2013 1:41 AM
Oakley and Starks are all time Knick greats who weren't efficient...Melo isn't efficient, JR isn't efficient and yet here we are, about to take down Boston in the first round of these playoffs...A veteran team who understand what playoff basketball is and know what it takes to win at this level..JR has made us forget about Amare at 20 mil per...Chandler looks to be MIA yet again..We have a legit shot because of JR...U are still posting about Knicks basketball because of JR..Wake up people...What are u watching??...Metrics dudes are posting in the other games thread...
TheGame @ 4/21/2013 6:18 AM
JR smith took bad shots even for him last game. I thought he had grown beyond being a simple jacker. We can probably beat the Celtics like this, but there is no way we get to the ECC game unless the team improves the ball movement. Stop the ISO ball JR and move the ball. Attack the rim when your man is running out to up you rather than trying to take him off the dribble with the defense set. And recognize that Bradley is too good a defender to try to play Michael Jordan on him all game.

Defense

(and the number 3 rated play on ESPN Top Ten)

“We changed up coverages,” said Woodson, noting Carmelo Anthony “covered (Jeff Green) most of the second half, he did an excellent job on him. And J.R. [Smith]. (Green is) a young talent. He’s got all the tools. I thought our defense did a great job on him in the second half.”

Efficient defense won the game.

Hopefully it does. But this thread is about him and he has been inefficient. For us to really contend he (and Melo) are gonna have to be efficient. I mention them because they both thus far have been pretty inefficient in the playoffs. And, they are our 2 best players.

other than shooting percentage, what is your criteria for being "inefficient"?

sheesh

A:TO ratio. 0 assists and 3 turnovers doesn't help the team use its possessions efficiently either.

Israel is right, although obviously he's also nit-picking.

Statistics Anyone?

bonn1997 - statistics are for accountants. This is not Big Bang Theory. This is big boy playoff basketball, where the collisions are vicious and referees struggle to manage emotions on full blast. To point to a number on a page misses the physical side of late April pro basketball. You want statistics? Chris Copeland got a crash course in playoff intensity and went 0-3. In five minutes, Steve Novak was invisible. He did nothing.

Just looking at numbers, the most efficient offensive player in was Kenyon Martin. That is only a small fraction of his contribution. His passion for defense was his greatest contribution.

Defense. Did anyone notice that the Celtics made their run in the second quarter after Earl Smith went to the bench with foul trouble?

The only statistic that matters is winning game one.

JR had a rough game shooting wise today but hopefully ot was just an off day. But he made a great steal off pierce at the end that was HUGE
SupremeCommander @ 4/21/2013 2:00 PM
anyone who doesn't want Smith here is nuts - especially when we add fans have had history with similar players. Starks and Spree come to mind
playa2 @ 4/21/2013 6:52 PM
Jr and Melo has all the most tats on the team and plays to the crowd and people don't like them for their appearance on the court. Wilson Chandler had just as many tats as those two, got caught smoking weed in his car in the bronx but he's a docile tat wearer and people loved him. go figure

Weelson was more efficient. Remember, with some on the UK, efficiency will cover a multitude of sins. Weelson did not smile. Weelson was a homegrown, non-starphucque.
