Knicks · Knicks Sign QRich (page 7)

Allanfan20 @ 4/17/2013 10:49 AM
If Melo can do his thing, Shumpert can hit the open 3s and penetrate when the opportunity presents itself, Felton can take the ball to the hoop, then Novak will hit 3s just fine. We wont need Q-Rich if this stuff is happening.
ActionJackson @ 4/17/2013 11:45 AM
Let us not forget that Q-Rich provides the best herbal supplements to the locker room...

RonRon @ 4/17/2013 12:04 PM
If Q is near his Miami Heat shape shape and had we given him a couple of months to get in NBA shape/practice, it would make more sense
Would also help if he was a couple years younger, certain players just have a big drop off in terms of production after hitting the 30 mark, with loss of athleticism/un able to adapt and adjust to the game/ and of course with injuries catching up

Mentally, he has that NY *I am crazy/tough* attitude that we all want out of our players, he has just been out of the league a little too long and is a bit broken
But I loved Q's effort/toughness back then and I can see him playing a Juwan Howard role for the Knick's but we have 1 too many of them to begin with

I wonder if Grunweld is giving cutting Wallace serious consideration right now
Anyone know if we can sign players during play offs or if this is it, due to injuries?
I know Q is playing the 14/15 role on the team but we currently don't even have 12 healthy bodies capable of contributing

Amare

Wallace
Camby

Martin/Chandler will be able to play but they could be severely hurt/injured to begin with so not sure what % they actually are and if they could get injured in play offs

Kidd/Iman/Melo should be able to play but with their health, injuries, age, and the minutes they are EXPECTED to contribute, they could be a huge hole to fill if they are not able to be 100% or get hurt in play offs like Bosh was out for a bit for Heat last year

If you didn't have so many IF'S I would agree with you.

We need Q because he's a smart veteran off the bench, to help soak up fouls, similar to Brewers role before we cut him. I thought Brewer was solid for us, but he's not a shooter. Q-Rich has the same type of defense and body to guard the same players Brewer did (Lebron, Pierce, etc..)

But Q-Rich has always been known as a 3 pt shooter (better than Brewer), and he's a low post threat as well on the block. He also showed some improved 1 on 1 defense down low. He's the perfect player for Woodson to have during those small ball lineups, because he can hold his own against guys bigger than him.

It's interesting how this thread reached 7 pages for a bench player....Typical for this site!

I have no problem with this addition, assuming our bigs can hold up for the playoffs. The way Woodson plays, he only uses 1 big and 4 guards. So do the math.....The last thing you want to do is run Shump into the ground like did with Kobe!

Yep and with Iman playing the 3, he can get by in a regular season game vs playing a playoff caliber team in a play off match
But asking him to defend Lebron/Durant after coming back from injury is insane, had he not even been injured it would be a HUGE mismatch and he is no where near his old self
I don't even think he can defend Paul George

Now I don't mind him being a 2nd or 3rd option in defending these players but NOT our #1

Expect Wade and Lebron alternating to be ready to RUN/Finish on the fast break everytime Melo touches the ball

the back problems pretty much ended his post game along with his ability to play above the rim. Last time I saw him was with Miami and he was in the best shape I ever saw him in. Doubt we will see that but, I can't be made at this. Can't have too many bodies to throw at a guy like Pierce. Once Shump gets in foul trouble trying to guard him, Q can take over.

Q-Rich looks fit.

Getting optimistic about this signing.

Knicksfan @ 4/17/2013 6:01 PM
Richardson: My mindset is to play defense

In his 12 previous years in the NBA, Quentin Richardson mostly made a name for himself with his 3-point shooting. His career accuracy from downtown is a respectable 35.5 percent. Three years ago, playing for the Heat, he nearly shot 40 percent from long range.

But now that he's in New York for the second time -- he played here from 2005-09 -- he wants to focus on defense, not one of his strong suits.

"The one thing I know about this team is they got enough offense," Richardson, who signed on Tuesday, said after Wednesday morning's shootaround. "First off, I don't know how much I'll play, but whatever happens, my first mindset is to be a defensive stopper. We have Carmelo [Anthony], who leads the league in scoring. My first mindset is to play defense."

While Richardson's consistent ability on that end of the floor is suspect, his wide body (6-6, 228 pounds) and hard-nosed approach has gotten under the skin of star opponents at times. Those factors could come in handy against the Celtics in the first round, and in a potential Eastern Conference finals matchup with the Heat.

Partly initiated by Richardson's aggressive style of play, he and Paul Pierce feuded during a game in 2008 -- when Q-Rich was playing for the Knicks -- which led to both of their ejections. In 2010, when Richardson was in Miami, he got into a shoving match with LeBron James, then with the Cavaliers.

While Richardson said he's "excited" to potentially guard Pierce again, he's also up to the task of picking up James.

"I do have experience playing against [James]. That possibly could have factored into [me signing]," he said. "If we make it that far, then I'm up for the challenge."

First things first is making his season debut on Wednesday night against the Hawks, the Knicks' final game of the regular season. Mike Woodson envisions playing Richardson extensive minutes, as several core players will rest.

It was only a few days ago that Richardson was in Orlando, where he spent the entire season working out. He was hoping to join a playoff-caliber team; a few were interested, but nothing came to fruition until the Knicks called.

"It's very exciting," he said. "I always knew this was the mecca of basketball. They have the greatest fans, even when I was here [with another team]. ... I've always been watching. They're at the level they need to be in competing for a title."

"You have the fans at a fever pitch, knowing their team is competing for a championship," he added. "When the news broke, my Twitter thing went crazy -- everybody congratulating me and welcoming me back. It was a good feeling."

On a team with mostly veterans, Richardson also views his experience in the league as an asset to the team.

"I hope I bring some of my veteran knowledge," he said. "I think I can space the floor and bring toughness on defense, give knowledge to the bench for my teammates."

Nice to know

THis is just great. How in the world are we suppose to tell Q, Melo, and Martin apart. I guess it helps that Q will be on the bench but still. Headbands and tattoos plus arm sleeves equals difficult.

We have guys that will just be insurance against injury or fouls or as Woody says if someone is in a real funk. Dude hasn't played any BB in a long while so it's hard to see him just coming in and helping right away. He'll need some practice for sure. He may not be of any use until the 2nd rd. anyway so what's the big deal?

I understand that experience is important

But name me 3 players that you would put on Lebron, he is #1 who is #2
Now name me 3 players that you would put on Wade

If you can tell me Lebron and Wade can not eat up those players u just put up, you are lying to urself
The ones that we have defending Lebron should be defending Wade, outside of Melo but it not u want Melo to hoist 20 shots and defend Lebron either
We don't have 1 body to actually defend Lebron, don't tell me Iman or JR Smith either, they give up 30+ pounds and have a much smaller frame/size/weight on him
If we HELP every play to defend them, Heat will have many open shots as they are all prepared for wide open shots with floor spacing as a result of James/Wade's abilities

Kidd was getting eaten up by Ray Allen, so watching him on Wade is going to be tough
I think Felton is our best shot, outside of Iman/JR who will probably have to try to defend Lebron

Another thing, if JR defends Lebron, he will post up on him and exhaust Smith, losing his legs/lift, effecting his shot and offense, and he is our #2
That was part of the reason why JR was horrible vs Heat last year, and same with Harden, he had to defend Wade or Lebron and they both posted him to death and made him work on DEF
JR and Harden caught 0 breaks, with their tough defensive assignment, of course their offense is going to affected greatly

Iman just isnt there yet for Lebron and this is just too big of a mismatch
I am not even sure if he can defend Wade well, at least not this season *not his fault, its great he is playing already, too bad he isn't Adrian Peterson..

That is why I wanted players like

Warrick *he was cut early before deadline*
Dominic McGuire

Rodney Carney

Shawne Wiliams

I am just asking for a legit F that can give me 10-15minutes

Papabear Says

Ron Ron Why do you keep putting this stuff out there like we don't have anyone to defend Lebron or Wade we know that. So What Would You Do?? Nothing ! thats right nothing! We will just have to do the best we can. There is nobody out there who is available that is a top flight player. There is a good chance that Martin may fall the same way Sheed did. It is what it is so stop complaining about things that we already know and there is nothing we can do about it. It's a good chance that Martin and Chandler won't make it through the playoffs. It is what it is.

I amend this statement he looks more like Brewer out there.

McGuire and Carney both had 10 days in 2013 so I don't think they could be signed and be on the playoff roster. Williams has been in trouble again. Not sure what is up with Warrick but I think Q was a good signing.

"It was awesome, man," he said. "I feel really blessed. The crowd was great; I heard a few 'Q's' when I was going in, so that made me feel really good. The fans have been great on Twitter and all of that stuff since they heard about the signing, so it's just great to be back."

Keep shooting and shooting until you get the feel for the release back. You weren't Alla Houston but you also weren't as bad as last night.

The rebounds were great. Keep shooting in case we need you.

Didn't realize he had that many rebounds. The Knicks could put out a bump and thump line up with Q, KMart, Tyson, Melo and Kidd or Felton.

According to Espn Trade Machine, Q's salary is for 2,627,400m
Not sure if it is accurate, if we got a injury exemption or something, but if so we have a lot more to work with

in addition to

all about 900k or about 1m I believe,

Earl Barron
James White
Brewer's trade exemption

+ 150% rule

I am hoping the Knicks find away to keep Earl. I think the Knicks need to try and bring back Cope, Prigs and KMart first but a guy like Earl at the right price is a good pick up. He always has his best moments as a Knick.

@ yellowboy
I didn't even think about that, thanks

And I saw your comment about the return of NYKMENTALITY, you are an ASS LOL

@ Crush

While I agree Earl Barron could be a solid 3rd big, I think there is no doubt that we will look to use his salary in a trade with our 3m in cash to get 1 or maybe 2 players back
There are many players that should be earning more than the vet min but the CBA has changed as some players like Fields gets benefitted and others like Martin/JR Smith/Nate gets the short end of the stick
