Knicks · Open letter to Marcus Camby (page 2)

Have you guys seen Camby's face on the sideline ?

He looks like he wants to go in the game, if he really couldn't go why would he be in uniform and not scratched when Barron is a well able Big who could spell Chandler or Martin now that Amare is back for only 12 mins a game. Kidd is stealing some of our bigs minutes.

VDesai @ 5/12/2013 7:30 PM
I will never understand what went on with Camby this season.

I wonder if Woody thinks Camby is lazy in practice ?

Mr. Camby, please now retire.

Never really got an explanation. Woodson has shown that he has no problem playing guys past their limits. Up until this season Camby was one of the best rebounders in the league. Definitely could have used it. Not sure what happened.

The Biggest letdown of any player this season. He averaged 7 and 9 in 24 minutes last season for Houston... WTF. Could u imagine if he gave us that.I thought having him would allow Tyson to go all out when he was on the court without worrying about Fouls.

The Knicks. The new Floridian pre-retirement home.

Vmart @ 6/5/2013 9:56 AM
Camby should retire but he won't he will save that for training camp starts and gets injured. I can't believe Grunwald gave him that long of a contract.

You're right, that's one of the reasons why we brought in Camby, to spell Tyson. Maybe coming to camp with a paunch had something to do with it. Seems like he spent the entire season trying to catch up and got hurt in the process. What a waste.

I don't know if Camby can still play at a high level despite his age but I would say I don't think he ever got a shot and the opportunity to do so this year
It isn't like he played and was horrible, he simply never got minutes with Woodson
In fact in the little minutes that he did play, I thought he showed he can still contribute much more than he was given the chance to

I am not saying he can still do it but it is wrong to say that he is completely useless either because he just never got that chance
Hopefully his planter facilites heals and he comes in much better shape/health

At the same time, I wonder how much of this has to do with Marcus being injured and Woodson not wanting to play him. This is the same guy, after all, that refuses to play Copeland or Prigioni despite them coming through for us time and again.

Papabear Says

Look! Woodson's days are numbered next season. He can choose to not play players and if our offense is bad Woodson won't last a half season.

I don't believe either Camby or Woodson handled things well to be honest. There were times this season when I was wondering why Camby couldn't get any burn. Like I said in another thread, Woodson has no problem pushing players past their limits so it was odd that Camby got the deep freeze.

I thought it was awesome that Camby signed with NY instead of a much better chance of winning a ring with Miami, but at the same time its odd that he was so fired up to play in NY that he showed up out of shape. Strange situation all around.

He showed up ou of shape? Must have missed that. But I do know he was ready and game shape mltiple during the season and the Wooden Headed so called coach refused to play him. Hard to stay motivated when its obvious the team needs you and the coach wont play you.

Take that back, Camby had a calf injury early on and let himself go. By the time he got back he was overweight. Not as bad as showing up out of shape but not helpful either. Camby could have kept the weight off. As I said, I don't put it all on Camby. Camby and Copeland's minutes were a mystery to me.

So far all of Woodson's coaching has been bad to borderline idiotic. If you think about it he has done very little as a coach. People get lost in comparisons to the last 10 years and that's about as relevant as my basketball skills are to JR Smith's shooting percentage. Woodson talked about accountability and he failed spectaculary in the department. He was supposed to be a tough nosed defensive minded coach - and he had a bunch of veteran players known for defense - yet we were middle of the pack. There is no way in hell the dude recognize an offense even if it came and bit him in the rear.

Now if he had a terrible roster with mismatched parts then I would give him a pass like I gave MDA and to some extent Larry Brown. But this guy had exactly the types of players he wanted, plus a "scoring champion" - whatever the heck that is worth. This the best roster we have had in years in terms of experience and skill and somehow the fact hat we won more games than we did in the last ten years is some major accomplishmnet!!

It was Jason Kidd's savvy and Prigioni's play in the second half that kept us going. Rasheed also helped early on and Kmart filled in very nicely later in he season. And JR smith shot his way to the 6th man of the year award. All that experience paid off in a big way and covered up for Woodson's shortcomings.

Then we went to the playoffs. Where a hobbled Garnett and an ancient Pierce almost took us out and that was without their best player being on the floor. Then a bunch of young players with little play off experience and also without their best player closed us out in 6 games. While Woody was too busy defending his isolation only offense. Pathetic.

Between MElo's ball hogging and selfishness and Woody's lack of accountability and non existent offense we are doomed. Can we get incrementally bettr next year? Maybe - but I am not going to hold my breath.

And people blame the players because they can't seem to get out of the coach's doghouse. sheesh!

Sometimes players deserve to be in the dog house, its a question of how long they stay there. Copeland looked lost his first playoff game but that doesn't mean he had to be buried on the bench for as long as he was.

I was wrong about when Camby was out of shape, but at some point he was and Woodson kept him on the bench. Later in the season he got back into shape and recovered somewhat from his plantar fasciitis, he still didn't see daylight. We could have used his help.

We dealt with injuries in a way that few teams did this season and still got the 2 seed. We can't just scrub Woodson's role in that out of the equation. I'm still disappointed in how he coached the last series but I still think he should finish out his deal. Especially since he has done a better job than MDA has, did a better job with the same squad when Woodson took over. Seems only fair.
