Gotta stick with the guys that got you there.Quick hook??..they guy had two consecutive turnovers in the playoffs..A coach more than any knows whether or not his player is ready...
I agree with this. Cope was nervous as hell when he played. Its not like Woody didnt give him a chance.
This was Cope's 1st shot and there were certainly times that he could get him in there to show him he still had confidence in him. Instead just like in the season Woody stomped on his confidence rather than just pull him aside and talk to him and smack him on the butt, tell him to get going. We need more bench scoring at times and QRich aint the answer. When you know damn well that you have a kid with more talent than some old burnt out role player you can't give up on him that quick. YOU'VE GOT TO COACH A KID UP!!!

Home court is a big deal since the Pacers, oddly for a defensive team, are not a good road team. They seem to lack the firepower and Hibbert has underachieved.
Im starting to question how big of an effect he has now. There was a lot of isos this game depsite him being on the court.Since when did Iso become such a dirty word, Jordan won 6 rings going Iso...You will need Iso in spurts in the playoffs...Bron is making his passes of Isoball right now as well speak...
It's warranted with Jordan because he was shutting down his defensive assignment. Isolation ball by players who are not stopping their assignments on the other end of the floor tend to be closer to zero-sum players than you may want to admit. Jordan also had a career TS% of 57% or so and his usage to assist ratio was a terrific 1.70:1 or so-- that is a very good number for a so-called isolation player.

Yeah, you can't give up on a player after 24 minutes.

Thing is we dont know what went on with Cope and Woody behind the scenes. He could have tried to get him to shake the nerves and it didnt work. We dont know. However, I certainly would have played him over Q. That layup where he hit the bottom of the rim was cringe worthy.
nixluva wrote:Woodson had Cope starting in game 1. He played like he was scared and turned the ball over. Also, Cope is 29 Q is 33. Neither are young up and comers by NBA standards, Cope is just new to the NBA. Q has been very animated and fired up on the bench. Maybe Woodson just wanted to see if he could catch lightning in a bottle. Also, Q is a back court player and a vet. The Knicks were down a back court player. The Knicks are on a 19-3 run and ran into some bad luck with the league office that benefitted an old prideful team that didn't want to get swept on its homecourt. The Knicks almost won anyway.TeamBall wrote:holfresh wrote:nixluva wrote:Woody has too quick of a hook on Cope and always has. He's too damn old school when it comes to young players. PACERS scored 69 points the other night.. I was like WTF? LOL not good... although, they do have depth and can really grind out games, their offense can be somewhat a mystery at times...
I wonder if the Pacers are mentally tough enough to win a game of attrition. The celtics showed some grit even if they have no hope of winning. Something about Hibbert's personality makes me wonder-- maybe it's a certain passivity.
hibbert has had a somewhat dissapointing year
Hibbert's yr was odd, he has been better than what his numbers suggest. At the start of the yr he was brutal. May have been pressing on the new contract, not sure.

Worst offense in the league by far. Worst than the C's and they don't have a PG
One thing that did stink was the reffing- it was awful on both sides. I'm sick of the nba getting terrified a series is going to turn violent, so they instruct the ref's to call EVERYTHING to try and contain things. In actual fact this has the opposite effect because players get even more frustrated because they start getting annoyed at the ref's as well as the opposing team. Whistles for everything just make the game ridiculous.
Anyways, onto the next game- thankfully KG will be suspended because I saw him clearly deliberately elbow Shump in the face- the nba will act on that won't they? Yeah right- I've never seen a player elbow so many people in the face every game and get away with it every time.
We need more fire power- can't believe anyone still disputes that Amar'e can help- it's like they've forgotten how he played this season when he did come back.
That's about it. Hopefully we can wrap this up Wednesday. The longer this series goes, the higher the probability of injury to our older vets.

-despite Melo shooting less than 50%
-JR will present a gift wrapped box of bandaids to Jason Terry

I agree with Silver that this is a good post
but the biggest positive that I took from the game is that the Knicks almost beat the Celtics after completely getting their teetch kicked in. they showed fight and resilience. All you can really ask for is a team that will give you their all - and the Knicks did yesterday.
Pretty much every team since JVG left town would have rolled over and died once Boston went up 20. Didn't happen yesterday and that's a great feeling.
Don't get me wrong, I wanted nothing more than to sweep Boston. It's not the size of the dog that matters but the size fo the fight in the dog. This team has an awful lot of fight

This kind of fight is something we've seen all year and it's great to finally have confidence in this team even after they lose. This thing is over come Wednesday and I am not a half glass full type fan.

I agree. We don't have Stat/Camby/KT/Sheed and can still field a team who can make runs like this. The advantage of having a team of long time veterans, most of them have seen it all.
In the past, this would've been an issue, but this team has shown resilience to claw their way back into games.
Winning in the playoffs on the road is always tough no matter the circumstances.
My only bone to pick is we should've never been down 19-20 points to begin with. I think we had 11 or 12 turnovers in the 1st half alone(our reg season avg). Melo couldn't play any worse. But thankfully the 3 point guard lineup jump started an amazing run spearheaded by Felton, that made the game exciting even in an overtime loss.
Phucking JR...I hate letting winnable games slip away.
This is new territory for Knicks fans of now. Usually we're never in this position. When was the last time we won a series, 2000? To be favored and everyone now expecting your team to win a series feels wierd.
Winning a series 4-1 is actually damn good in the playoffs. I think I'm just bitter at the Celtics for sweeping us in 2011.

+1 and that bone is a tbone, not a wishbone
don't let my previous post fool anyone - to perform that poorly on yet another Sunday afternoon game is unacceptable and concerning. I am just not as disappointed as I would normally be

I was disappointed in Melo's performance as well. The missed free throws were killers. I'm upset that J.R got pulled, but considering the season he's had I'm not as upset as I would have been if it happened last season. Smith didn't regularly make the same head scratching decisions on the floor this season that he's been known for since coming into the league. Just have to hope he learned his lesson and will keep his head in the game. I'm confident J.R will in part because he respects Woodson like maybe no other coach he's had in the past.
Felton's play was responsible for holding the team together last night. Hell of a performance.
I agree it feels weird to be in this situation again. I was watching the game last night and it felt almost foreign to be in a big playoff game like this, and we're actually expected to advance! Its been so long, too long.

In Melo's defense, he did do a good job of driving to the basketball and drawing fouls. Think that was definitely Woody's strategy there- to try and get them all in foul trouble.
However, there's no excuse for missing both FT's at crunch time. Plus while he sat out in the 3rd, Felton went on a tear and we closed in on the Celtics. Then Melo checked in, and rather than realize "hey, I don't need to score- Felton has the hot hand", he just went straight back to chucking up panicked bricks.
Melo's won us a lot more games than he's lost, but if he'd just done a few things differently yesterday we'd have swept the Celtics.
