after what he sacrifice, he deserves to start, i understand he seems to fit better of the bench, but if we can get a nice higg energy pg who can work well with Amare, I rather have JR in the satrting line.

As long as JR is sufficiently paid--he should be happy to be slotted wherever Woodson puts him. Hes a good fit for 6th man--its good for chemistry. If we can ever get Amare back--thats a great offensive bench.

the guy is 2nd on the time in minutes played.
Thats the same thing they said about spree when he was coming off the bench, but him and allan worked out pretty well when he started the next season.
Jr Smith is starting next year. There is zero reason to bring him off the bench again.

who's to say that the changes to the Lineup next season won't thrust him into the starting lineup anyway. This might all be a moot issue.
Myself, I think Jr would thrive as a starter. He already plays starters minutes so the difference seems more - I know semantic is the wrong word but, its as close as I can come so early in the morning :)

he has such a high basketball IQ that I believe he'll be productive as long as he wants to wear a Jersey. I wouldn't be mad as such a signing next season even if he'll be out the whole year (depending on circumstances and the money involved).
Right now we are all in for the Big Chip but, if we fall short this season, will we have enough next season to realistically make another run or is it a this year thing because, I'm not sure we have the pieces for another run next season. The vets that got us here are mostly gone except (thankfully) the most important two.
If next year is a reloading year to make another run during the 2015/16 season then I'd love the signing.
Smith is way too inefficient to be a starter but a great spark off the bench. We have felton, and Shumpert who have low percentages (Although I think Shump will improve) and we have Melo who shoots at a lower clip than he should. That's not going to be a good starting lineup. I like how Smith has developed this past year but if he insists on being a starter when we will have Amar'e competing for just that as well, then he can go.

This is exactly right. No point in bringing him off the bench. He has earned his starting role next season. Nothing different in terms of impact on the team whether he starts or comes off the bench, only difference is you give the player what he deserves and make him happy.

How about because the Knicks would like to spread out Melo and JR time so that each can be a focal point of the offense at different times? Obviously there will be some overlap, but Melo and Felton usually are sitting at the beginning of the second and who else can break down a defense off the dribble?

my whole thing is it really wouldn't be a change. Whether he starts or comes off the bench, he'll likely play THE SAME amount of minutes so, not starting him because of things he will do anyway is kind of redundant. Starting him would help prevent some of the slow starts
Martin mentioned spreading out two as primary scoring options with some overlap. I think they already do this....JR comes in around the 5minutes mark of the first and they overlap for the until around the last two minutes at which time Melo usually goes to the bench. From the last 2minutes of the 1st till around 7 minutes into the 2nd, JR is the primary scorer.

You have Amare and Copeland to replace his quick scoring off the bench. He has been the 2nd best player on this team. He deserves to start. If he plays starting minutes anyways, what does it matter? If he wants to start let him start. The whole starting vs. coming off the bench is so overrated. Let him start if he wants to.

Unless Earl Smith wants to go on a 6th Man of the Year winning streak.
I think JR would still would like to start, but I think he realizes he's had far and away the best year of his career and that Woody, NY and the Knicks have been great for him. I don't think starting is top of mind for him anymore.
I think he wants to stay in NY, and the decision will come down to how much $ he'd have to forego by staying here. If it's relatively small dollars, I'm pretty sure he'll stay and won't seek or receive any guarantee on whether he'll start or not. If someone else is going to offer several million more per year than we can, he's probably gone (and who can blame him).
