Against Indy or against Miami? You don't think we can get past the Pacers with what we have right now?
We sure about this? In the 29 games Amare played this year we went 16-13. I really haven't seen any evidence that we're a better team with Melo and Amare playing at the same time.
I dont think he will play this series with such a short turnaround. Maybe if the Boston series was wrapped up last sunday
I am with you. If anything, Amar'e will be another big who can score in the post and kick the ball out. He doesn't have to play a lot either. If JR Smith is playing like crap, just pull him and put Amar'e in. It really doesn't hurt the way people say it does... And 16-13 isn't that bad considering the stuff we were going through then.
Only in the Miami series for low post play and occasional jump shot from the elbow to open up the lane for Felton.
We have our bruisers for the Indiana series Kmart, Chandler. Amare couldn't handle Hansbrough if I remember
Amare has dominated Indianas frontline in the past. Tyson usually gets the best of Hibbert too

I agree, but don't like the thought of Amar'e just starting to shake off the rust against Miami. Melo's starting to hurt with that shoulder as well. Don't think battling the Indy bigs down low is going to help that healing process.
First and foremost though, STAT has to be healthy. I don't want to see him go down in 2 games.
Exactly easy him in if we manage to build a comfortable series lead. 10-15mins when the offense stalls. Get him ready for Miami. We will need all hands on deck
guys who can score in the post will always have a place in the NBA and that really is the missing piece to this team... 10-15 mpg is all he needs to give and I hope he can give it

See that's the problem with just looking at numbers. Remember the golden rule of basic statistical research: correlation does not equal causation- just because our record was poorer with Amar'e, it doesn't prove that it was BECAUSE of Amar'e.
Look at the context- when Amar'e cam back, Felton was out injured, No K-Mart, no Sheed, Melo was on the decline from that knee issue, JR was playing like old JR and Shump was really struggling. Amar'e actually helped carry us through that stretch with his offensive efficiency. Came back with a completely changed game.
Amar'e will only play 15mins max (I think Woody said)- that would be a nice low post, scoring punch. We really need some more offense going forward.

OMG - someone who actually understands context when it comes to stats and their analysis on this messageboard. Preach!
Unfortunately no Amar'e for game 1 according to the Post. Hasn't scrimmaged yet. He'll probably need to have a few practices under his belt and no set backs.
Knicks need production from the PF and C spot. Amare is a must for advancement. Amare can score I don't think Celtics run off 20 straight if Amare was there.

Is there any point in the last 3 years where we've looked better with Melo and Amare playing as opposed to just one or the other?

Great point.
I thought Amar'e and Melo looked great right before the injury and considering the injuries to Novak, Cope and Melo's shoulder we could really use him.
Also, JR has apparently reverted back to chucking up BS at a low % rather than driving the ball, so having another weapon, specifically on the post, for the 2nd unit will be really helpful.

Yeah, the JR of the end so season winning streak seems to have vanished and he's regressed to being the JR he's always been. A real shame as he was a huge reason for our success.
It amazes me how "context" gets lost by some. Amare has been one of the most efficient scorers in NBA history. He proved that again this year before he went down. We simply need balance offensively and with sensible lineups there's no reason we can't have Amare in there and being a big boost to this team as they move along. We need some kind of threat inside to make things tougher on opposing defenses and when JR and Melo aren't clicking. He won't need to play a lot of minutes anyway, however, they could be key minutes in each game.
I think we will need amare's size...indy is HUGE! Melo doesnt match up well as a 4 because theyre HUGE. Melo already has a dislocated left shoulder.
They just said he could come back for Game 3 if contact drills go well Thursday and Friday.
Amare only is useful as strictly a backup PF to Melo. Chandler and Martin must continue to split minutes at center (32 for Tyson, 16 for Martin unless foul trouble ) and amare backup Melo for 10-12 minutes per game. Can't move Melo to SF unless its just for a little bit. I just don't see Amare being a valuable asset for more then 10-15 mpg without disrupting this teams offensive and defensive flow. This team is built around guard play and spacing, what is working in the new nba era. Amare doesn't help us in any area related to spacing or ball movement.
