If he did become good enough to become a starter the trade doesn't stop that. There are 96mins between PF and Center. Detroit wouldn't have any obligation to start Tyson over Drummond if they felt Drummond was better. There would still be enough mins to go around if they did start Tyson over Drummond which would be a better plan anyway. Drummond is raw and needs probably 2-3 more seasons to develop, the same time frame that Tyson would become a free agent.

I could see the Pistons wanting Chandler but not at the expense of a guy that was arguably an allstar this past season. It doesn't make sense for a rebuilding team, especially when Andrew Drummond is the perfect compliment to him moving forward. Our opportunity to get Monroe should've been in the 2010 draft. David Lee needed to be moved during the season to Golden State and we should've gotten their pick to select him a few months later. Imagine how pretty we'd be sitting right now if we did.
Portland would likely send us the 10 pick and filler for Tyson Chandler straight up.
Portland would likely win that trade in the short term. They'd likely make the playoffs in the West.

That's what I would hope for but that is pushing it kind of.

It would be better to try to work out a 3 team deal sending LA-CHandler, Portland-Jordan, and Hopefully, NY receives, bledsoe, 10th, pap, and maybe Leonard.

But like you said they need talent and it takes some pgs time and opportunity. Also, theoretical that 10th pick and other assets could get some FAs in Sign n trades because of the trade exception the Knicks get from moving Tyson's contract.

+1. I think we should make the Chandler trade for Bledsoe and Jordan first.Maybe I'm reaching but I'd trade Jordan to OKC for Perkins, the Raptors pick, Jeremy Lamb and some protected 2nd rounders. After I'd dump Perkins on Portland for whatever they'd be willing to offer, hopefully Meyers Leonard and a contract like Luke Babbit and/or Nolan Smith. I'm pretty sure the CBA doesn't have any stipulations about re-trading an incoming player if he is the only person being traded, which makes the Perkins dump feasible. We'd end up with your package except we'd have a better draft pick,Jeremy Lamb, Luke Babbit and Nolan Smith

Damn. Good point. They should be able to get below the apron if they want though. Right now, their payroll stands at $78 million and most guys on the team have expiring contracts.

I believe amnestying Artest wouldn't save them enough money to do this trade because you still have to factor in Dwight's cap hold which is going to be around $20M if LA wants to resign him. But, I am assuming that. It's possible that the NBA could raise the salary cap/luxury tax just enough that LA could get below the threshold if they needed to.
