Knicks · Shumpert is the key to it all (page 2)

Shump is my one true hope for progress next year. He hasn't reached his full potential yet and we can fully expect he'll have a chance to really work on his game this summer which he wasn't able to do fully last summer. He'll be stronger and wiser as well.

IMO this team isn't doomed to failure even tho it's in a tight cap situation. They have to make the most of their draft pick and maybe buy another one. The draft can be a source of cheap talent and every year their are capable players late in the draft if you really do your work you can find them. Also as Grunwald has already proven you can find diamonds in the rough in the foreign leagues too. Shump is a major piece tho and i'm happy we have him.

Shump is adorable and rugged. He plays with passion and does not accept defeat. He played with pain and doubt and made us proud.

He has style.

Keep him.

The only way it changes if we luck into an All Star like player at the back of the draft "Serge Ibaka ,David Lee,Carlos Boozer",find a younger quicker PG , and Shumpert develops a better offensive game and becomes a legit 18ppg #2 option. If that happens yeah we could lose to the HEAT in the ECF instead of losing to the Pacers,Bulls or Heat in the first or 2nd round next season. We have serious dead weight in Amare Stoudamire and a very flawed Tyson Chandler eating up 35 million in cap space. We can overcome Chandlers contract but Amares will drag us down. If u replace Amare with another elite player like Chris Paul this team could compete for a championship for real not fake compete

I wouldnt trade him unless it brings in a legit Stretch 4 that can flip match ups defensively with Melo. Those players are hard to find

Wonder if the Knicks could deal Amare to the Raptors they have some awful contracts that could equal Amares

YOU woulndt. The GM of the Knicks WOULD. Tried to trade him for Jared Dudley and Steve Nash? Know why? He's the only guy on the roster with value.

Thank god he didnt trade him for Dudley I couldnt believe there were Knick fans that wanted that trade it didnt make any sense. We dodged a bullet with Nash could u imagine if we had him weighing us down to. Bad enough trying to make up Amares contract and Tyson overblown contract.
Just because he is trade able shouldnt mean u trade him for anything

I agree 100% dude. I envisioned Shump/Lin as a nice backcourt of the future. I hope he stays too

I think you have it mixed up. He turned down a deal for Dudley because he didn't want to trade shumpert.

Glen Grunwald never considered trading Iman Shumpert prior to Thursday's trade deadline.

"There were no trade discussions with Shump. I don’t want to go into details, but Shump’s a key part of our future and we’re happy to have him back," Grunwald said. "He’s had a great rehab and is obviously coming back from a difficult injury. Maybe he’s not at 100 percent yet, but we’re optimistic that with his work ethic and attitude, that he will be back to his old self very shortly."

The Phoenix Suns expressed interest in Shumpert prior to the deadline. The Knicks, according to a league source, listened to offers but never seriously considered moving the second-year guard.

Shumpert has struggled since returning from offseason ACL surgery. That he is a step slow is understandable, though, given his eight-month rehab following surgery.

Grunwald did not deny that other teams were interested in Shumpert.

"I’m not going to get into trade discussions, but obviously Iman is a good young player, and I’m sure there are lot of teams that are interested in him, but no one more than the New York Knicks," the general manager said.

Don't you believe anything you read on the internet (especially quotes by Dolan's minions.) Except for UK posts.

1) Shump is going to be gone. Probably for someone older than Sheed.
2) Melo sucks, see I told you.
3) We can't win now, we can't win ever.
4) It's been 40 years, did I say that already?
5) Dolan's a effing rich bastid moron and anyone who thinks differently about hating the Knicks right now is obviously just dying to be one of his unpaid rhoids.
6) We still don't have any draft picks. Even though we can't draft, the draft is the way to go. It's what winners always do. Except for those who didn't do it before winning.
7) We could have had Lebron
8) We could have had CP3
9) We could have had DHoward
10) The Nyets are actually better, the Pacers are obviously better, Rondo's surely better than our whole scummy team, and the Wizards are probably better. I'll wait until summer league starts to tell you if we have a chance to be better than the Charlotte Bobnettes.

Welcome to the UK offseason!

If Woody's love affair with JR would end I can see Shumpeet becoming a star in this league. I'm talking a superstar in the Pippen mold. A do everything player offense and defense player the two way player that we have coveted for many years. 22-5-5 type player.

Woody has to get on board for this to happen. This is why I'm hoping that Smith goes else where and addition by subtraction.

sure he did. And he never offered Shump in a sign and trade for Nash also right?

good post for JRod.. at least nobody's health is being threatened.

Its another typcial offseason for the Knicks where all hopes are based around:
1) a good rotation player developing into a star despite nobody in the league thinking he's got that high a ceiling (Shump)
2) a player returning from injury who on all observations wont ever be the same player again (Amare)
3) drafting some high impact sleeper guy with our low first rounder
4) hoping some FA is going to come here for nothing

Pretty much the same every summer, only the names change

it was fine while he had JRs ear. Dude worked hard and I give Woody credit because most of this year he had motivated that mental case to play hard. Nice to see come playoffs getting loaded and chasing that bucket giz Riri became #1 priority.

Where's the rebounding? I like the idea but Indy beats the Knicks again if that's the lineup. Whoever is the starter at SF needs to be able to hit the glass. No one on the team is going to be a rebounding monster but the entire starting lineup needs to improve in that area dramatically

Yes he was offered for Nash, but not for Dudley. Believe it or not, not every offer is initiated by us. Phx wanted shumpert, offered Dudley, and we turned it down. End of story.

yea well when your willing to trade a young guy for a 38 year old guy the rest of the league takes note.

Shump is a nice role player. IF he's the key to it all prepare for more of the same.

Maybe I missed that but I don't see it. All I see is Fish saying that we tried to trade Shumpert for Dudley AND Nash. It looks like the only thing you disagree on is whether we valued Shumpert enough to demand that Dudley be included (with Fish saying yes and you possibly saying no in that regard).
