Off Topic · OT: why don't more people train with weights? (page 1)

IronWillGiroud @ 5/22/2013 10:25 PM
this is off topic but i don't do the "OT:" thing often, chuckbuck does it regularly,

so please forgive but do not forget,

do you know, brethren, why more people do not lift the weights?

what are the reasons in your head?

yellowboy90 @ 5/22/2013 10:34 PM
lazy.

you think so? do you think some people are afraid? or they have the wrong idea about the weights?

yellowboy90 @ 5/22/2013 11:15 PM
idk, I myself prefer heavy resistance bands. I use to be into weights but now im into neither. Need to start back.
AnubisADL @ 5/22/2013 11:25 PM
Everyone wants to be skinny.

Weights get you big.

BasketballJones @ 5/22/2013 11:34 PM
There's a creepy guy on a sports forum who lifts weights and I don't wanna be like him.
blkexec @ 5/22/2013 11:50 PM
I'm 40...play like I'm 30...and always been a gym rat. Weights...basketball...and recently yoga. Not lifting weights for me is like not breathing or drinking water. As you get older, u gain weight. Need too increase your strength as you increase your weight.
y2zipper @ 5/23/2013 12:28 AM
The well-perpetuated myth that weight = size. Weights don't make you bigger unless you eat too much. Calories in / calories out changes your weight. If you go on a progressive lifting program you'll gain strength regardless of weight, provided that you eat enough good stuff and not too much bad stuff.

Better question----why do people get tattoos all over their body?
jrodmc @ 5/23/2013 7:54 AM
Fast twitch musculature?

Lifting weights for looks does wonders for your jumpshot?

All those pro ball players doing plyometrics all the time must be stupid?

Why don't more people vote Republican?

Why don't more people win the lottery?

Why don't more people get TARP money?

Why doesn't belly fat just disappear as you get older?

Why don't more people sell their own natural gas as a fossil fuel alternative?

Why don't more people drill for shale oil in their own backyards?

Why don't more people sell home owner's insurance in Oklahoma?

I thought the better question is why don't people hunt on their unicycle but, hey, whatever floats your boat

IronWillGiroud @ 5/23/2013 7:42 PM
hahahaha to all of the above,

think of this: you know, if everyone can lift heavy things in every day life, imagine if everyone you see every day for work or social, imagine if they could all lift a 150 lb stone off the ground, or maybe something that you think is heavy from your mind,

do you not see how this would lead to world peace in just one year??

jrodmc @ 5/24/2013 7:52 AM
I'm still trying to figure out if you were trying to get the original post to rhyme or something...

Thanks for mentioning ChuckBuck, by the way, IronWil. He needs the free publicity!
And I think I know how to take this to the next level!

Meanwhile, IWG:

in the place where it falls, there it will lie.

ChuckBuck @ 5/24/2013 8:29 AM
I can barely do 5 pushups, how am I going to live 150 lb stones...

I think if your cardio isn't somewhat decent, going too crazy on weights doesn't always help. The fat guy with big muscles is still a fat guy (Sorry to anyone who may be offended by this). I focus on cardio 3-4 days a week and then do weights 1-2 times a week. Just depends on where your focus is.

I don't know about that. If you look two people with about the same fat but one has more muscle, the one with more muscle will have a better overall shape. I've thought about it more than I should have probably. Compare these two guys

fat is easy to lose, no one should fear gaining fat if they are also putting on muscle and putting on weight on the bar,

muscle is hard to build, fat is easy to lose,
