Knicks · What would you trade Tyson for? (page 2)

http://www.hoopsworld.com/nbas-top-50-hi...
No, I said I PREFER a trade exemption vs a bad contract, only teams that are under the cap and can absorb his contract can give this to us
That is why I see Portland as a more realistic team
for example, OKC can trade us Sefelosha/Collison/ and the bad contract of Perkins
They have picks 29 and 32, but if they just gave us one of those picks, and that trade, we would not be under the tax threshold and have the 5m MLE and Bi annual Exemption
In addition to not being able to match Copeland's salary over 3m and if we do, IT MUST come out of our mini MLE, which is hard with the holes to fill
I like Sefolosha and Collison as role players but unless we can get BOTH picks, I would much prefer a trade with Portland for the trade exemption and the benefits of removing 14m of our books
And if we did do such a deal with OKC with their 2 picks (picks 28 and 32, I cannot see them partying with the 12 pick), I think we have to try to trade Pablo and Copeland to SA for 2 2nd round picks, 1 next year, and the salary exemption
I would like to keep Copeland but for the team but another team can just offer 3.2m and if Copeland signs, we get NOTHING back for him
The draft start's before FA's in which we could still deal our players, acquire draft picks/trades, and make decisions for our future...
With the trade exemption, Mark Cuban said they want to clear salary and will be willing to part with their pick for some salary removal with Marion, maybe others....
In the other thread, I also state how I would try to absorb Marion's contract for their Dallas's pick at 13 *selected for us*, in addition to players like Carter/Wright or Kaman
But it would have to be on principle because I want the luxury of being able to use
the 5m MLE and 2m Bi Annual Exemption FIRST, so in the start of FA since trade exemptions could be used in up to a year when it was acquired
Problem is we give Cuban the chance to screw us and try to get better offers though...

But look at all these FA and trade players to trade for, and re think if you value Tyson Chandler's 14m contract or would they more likely look for cheaper/better options?Ask yourself what is more likely
Tyson Chandler coming back with an offensive game with the ability to post up after over 10 years + without having oneor
coming back with the same lack of skills and also be in physical decline with age/injuries in terms of speed/mobility/athleticism
????
The most important thing to remember is that Tyson is still respected around the league. He's only one year removed from winning DPOY and he was voted into the AllStar game and All Defensive 1st this year by the coaches. That being said, I think there are 3 teams that make the most sense for a Tyson trade:
1. LA Clippers for DeAndre Jordan and Eric Bledsoe. By far this is my preferred trade and I'd even throw in our 1st round pick this year to get it done. The most important thing here is that LA desperately wants to keep Chris Paul happy and if he wants something like this done that it'll get done.
2. Denver Nuggets for a package including Javale McGee. Denver gave McGee a $40M contract and then played him less than 20 mpg this year; I'm sure they would jump at the chance to dump him for a useful player. The big question for us is who else could we get because Javale "Dumbest Player in the NBA" McGee isn't getting it done by himself. Would we be able to get Evan Fournier and Anthony Randolph? Wilson Chandler?
3. OKC Thunder for a package including Kendrick Perkins. Only way I'm doing this is if OKC includes Lamb and either another useful player or 1st rounders. Perkins has looked fucking terrible since at least the NBA Finals last season and really want nothing to do with him. Really, the only way I'm agreeing to a trade like this is if OKC blows us away with an offer.

Ronn is right about Portland wanting a Defensive Center so that makes 4. I could also see Flip Saunders trading for Tyson to pair with Love.
Regarding 2 and 3. I would find another partner to take McGee and you're right about Perkins. OKC would have to blow me away to take Perkins contract. I would need Lamb, Jones, and two number 1s.

Yeah, He would rather take the 2nd round picks and open up the ability to take back players from teams trying to clear cap space. Basically get a jump on the 2014 FA market.

If we gave away Tyson in a straight salary dump we would have the full MLE and LLE to sign free agents. It would also allow us to receive players in sign-and-trades as long as the trade doesn't put us back over the apron.

Exactly, in this draft filled with role players a starter, award winning, former champion should get you a 1st rounder and/or player. IF teams like Dallas are willing to give away lottery picks for a chance at Howard you would think Tyson can get you something.
Also, It is not about the Knicks seeking a trade but if teams seek to trade for Tyson.
CrushAlot wrote:If Grunwald is considering moving Tyson I wonder if it happens draft night.
Hopefully it will be a few days before draft night in case they acquire picks in the trade to use to get some younger vets. If they get some future picks then that's different.
Bonn1997 wrote:Unless there's something seriously wrong with his physical or mental health, I'd go with the first option.
Wait I thought you said Tyson was a superstar all NBA C? Our best bet is for Tyson to work on his own game and come back physically stronger with a simple post move. Tyson is NOT a role player--he is paid like a skill player so he has to go the extra mile this offseason. Trade him--I would but we wont get back anything close to what Tyson can give us if he comes back at 255-260 with an offensive move. He needs to improve without excuse.

Well you thought wrong. I did say he was our best player in the first half of the season but we don't have any superstars. I'd trade him for a younger all-star like George or Hibbert and maybe for multiple good young players like Bledsoe and Jordan.

lets add in Durant and Lebron while you are at it, you are talking about unrealistic trades that will get laughed at if even mentioned
You want MAXIMIZE value and it just isn't going to happen
BTW, I would like maximize value as well, but I am a bit more realistic, and if I am playing GM I would start conversations just to feel is there interest in him from other leagues
I am not saying I would just look for 2 2nd round picks, obviously there must be discussions going on in draft night with a couple of different teams IF there is interest in him
And before they make their pick they would need to confirm with us, if they are picking for us
I am saying by the 2nd round, if NO ONE is willing to deal us 1st rounders and Portland is willing to trade a trade exception with 2 first round picks, I would do if if push comes to shove
If they were only giving 2 2nd round picks, they must also take Novak with him, if not I would need more assets with either draft rights back for Pap, and/or 3 2nd round picks *which could include future picks 2nd rounders in the next 2 years* If they still insist NO, I would say no deal then call them back up a few minutes before they start picking and initiate the conversation again, I would try to get as much as I could, and IF 2 2nd round picks is the most I could get, I would still do it *with picks 39,40 only*, not the 45th(if 45th I at least need Pap with it since he already stated he does not want to play in Portland and likely will not go there so less leverage to Portland....
Feel I have to do such moves because overall we have more ways we can improve the roster even though we are not maximizing Chandler's value
Because going under the tax threshold is much more important, with the ability to do sign and trades, do trades WITHOUT matching dollar for dollar, 5m MLE vs 3m MLE, and 2m BAE
I prefer to get something done earlier in any case so I could do a 2nd deal because of the rumor of Dallas clearing cap space and willing to part with pick 13 for it
1- So, IF Portland would agree to to a trade similar to the one I proposed in the other thread,
2- I would call Dallas up right away *with the rumor of pick 13 and Marion for cap space*, and see if they have interest in parting the 13th pick with Marion and whoever else like Carter/Collison and Wright/Kaman *don't think Mayo is realistic but of course I would get him if I could* so they can save money and possibly target 2 maxish FA's

Yeah, I never said they were realistic. I don't think pick 13 and Marion/Collison etc. could help us next year as much as Tyson could.
