JR Smith alone is better than anything we traded in the Melo deal. When you consider that we've added Tyson and Iman as well, I think its fairly easy to see that we've more than replaced those guys.

I would take an injured Galo knowing he might not play next season over Jr Smith. There were 2 things I didnt like about the Melo trade. I hated that we had to take Billups back. Taking Billups back should of allowed us to keep are 2016 Draft pick which is the other part of the trade I hated.

Smith was every bit as productive (and then some) as Gallo and was paid substantially less. The better bargain is Smith for this reason.

If we've learned anything over the years, it should be that "expense" does not always directly correlate to production. We may have an expensive roster but that doesn't mean that it makes for elite production especially when ~30% of our payroll is tied into a guy that hardly plays (see Amar'e Stoudemire).

True but without Amar'e the knicks do not have an expensive roster like other teams. They have one 13 mil guy and a few 3-4 million guys.

Very good point. Either way though, the point about expense being used to justify Melo's supporting cast, while ignoring production is ridiculous.

You can't look just at production when evaluating the supporting cast. Obviously if there's a guy taking 25 shots and getting 1 assist a game, everyone else's #s are going to be deflated.

It *should* equate good if the organization knows what it's doing. And you know Melo called it the best he ever had.

Which still doesn't equate good. Guys were gushing over Walsh before (hah) and giving Grumfeld props earlier this season (hah) but, now we have a whole lot of about faces. Wish guys would admit it!!!

Essentially you are right, it comes down to the GM and the owner.

Did you miss the entire post-season? I think Gallo in street clothes helped his team more than Smith did.

Gallo has more potential than JR of course, but you are talking about a player with identical numbers the past 4 seasons so not sure we can determine there is still a ton of potential there. I would rather have gallo than JR of course, but we have similar production for 25% the cost.

well, considering how the vast majority here seem to give the regular season no credence, and, considering their lack of success in the post season.....as far as I'm concerned, they are Knicks west coast with less drama. When Gallo leads a teams further than the 1st round, he's a mediocre as the next man and has not proven to be any better than JR when considering TEAM success.

What people think of him is solely based on the Melo trade. Those who love him hate Melo. I personally think he's a good player, not great, who is slightly overpaid and has thus far failed to meet long-term expectations. He has shown little improvement since his second NBA season. That about sums it up. Those who view him as a successful team guy don't really have anything of substance to go by. He's a good player, nothing more nothing less.

maybe after 8 years of first round exits, I would see your point, they are a young team on the rise, if they don't get out of the first round over the next few years then I could see your point... but denver has time... something the knicks don't...

I'm onboard with the Gallo love, and his last game was great. However, it should be mentioned that the previous game he came up tiny when the Knicks really could have used him. That is still his flaw...disappearing and not being aggressive enough at times. He needed to step up in that game, it was his game to take over!
But last night was beautiful.

Gallo has not gotten more then 15 shot attempts in any game this year......
Yet avg's 16 points a game!

He has, but in only two games. For comparison, Chandler averages 14 attempts per game and has gotten over 20 attempts many times. Gallinari shoots 5.8 free throws per game.

I'm sorry but you are wrong, those who like gallo, always have liked him.. and for those of us that didn't like carmelo, didn't like him before, the trade just made it worse, but it had nothing to do with just gallo... carmelo to me is a clown, I hate that he is on this team and the fact that we had to spend picks ( now these are players we don't even know yet) on him, upset me even more!
