Knicks · Perfect Forward to compliment Carmelo? (page 6)

HAHAHA, that was actually funny

nah, I think I'm officially done. Not with the board but, with any topic that includes Melo. At least for a few weeks.

"Perfect forward to compliment Caremelo"

In the realm of what is possible, I think Amare with a solid outside shot could be a good one to have!

He'd need a much better passing ability. Your top 2 scorers can't both be bad assist/turnover guys. I've never heard of a championship team having that.

Melo is actually a pretty good passer. But you know, why should he? He is paid to finish, and he is very good at it!

Amare I can't say the same but he never really was asked to.

Opening at SF....

Battier
Marion
Ariza
Barnes
Jeff Green,

Any guy who can defend and hit the 3 would be ideal.

If the opening is at PF, while a stretch 4 (Kevin Love/Ryan Anderson and guys like them) stretch 4's who can rebound and defend and hit the 3 are rare. It would be easier and more effective to get a Reggie Evans/Elton Brand/Dajuan Blair type of PF who can help rebound and will take up minimal space in the paint to let Melo operate.

I don't think the Knicks have the money to sign Melo's second scorer (at least the type of scorer he wants) so I think that has to come from within. Run the offense through Melo, Shumpert (he looked to be ready for some scoring responsibility) and believe it or not FELTON.

Get a solid scorer off the bench so J.R. Starks isn't the only option. Nate Robinson and Antwan Jamison spring to mind.

A nice solid off season to me Chauncey to the Vet min., Dorrell Wright to a LLE contract. Resign JR to his max early bird. Draft the most talented player on the board at 24, buy into the second round and grab one of those young PG's Briggs always brags about in the second. Possibly bring in another big vet who can still bang and be a spot starter (Elton Brand/Dajuan Blair) for the Vet minimum. Split the MLE (if you can on 2 of the 3) on Copeland/Prigs/KMart (Prigs is probably most expendable). Either is OK to let walk if need be as long as you are covered.

Chandler
Anthony
Wright
Shumpert
Felton

JR, Amare, Chauncey, Brand/Blair, Copeland/Pablo/KMart (pick 2), Rookie PG, Rookie Banger, Camby,

Don't be suprised if Dorrell Wright's name pops up as a great option. He averaged 16 ppg a couple years ago in GS, is a good rebounder, 3pt shooter, and solid defender. Also, he could be had for cheap, so he will be very undervalued.

No, Melo makes occasional good passes but he's not a good passer

He's a good passer, his issue is willingness to do so.

There has been plenty of plenty of players who've won who dont have good assist to turnover ratios.

Kobe immediately comes to mind, and he is a good passer.

Kobe's assist:to ratio is actually average. Note that I asked about examples where the top 2 are both bad assist/TO guys. So an example where 1 guy is average doesn't really address anything I said.

What i enlarged is what i commented on.

But I'll humor you with add Shaq....there's your tandem.

Or even add Pau, and he is a very good passer, one of the best big men to do so.

Here's why your assist to turnover thingy is severely flawed.

Players with the ball alot create turnover and they dont have to be from trying to pass and make plays.

You wont find an advanced stat to show how many turnovers were from trying to make a play for a teammate.

I was trying to have a thread on players that we could plug in next to Melo "hopefully for next season" for this team to be successful. It kind of broke down partly my fault as well.I think the team is probably better off just drafting a proper sized SF "legit 6'8" and deal with what happens with Melo's defense and rebounding at PF.

By that definition, Tony Mitchell would fit the bill. Combo forward who can rebound and spot up (as he improves his shooting.) Will be a good rebounder/defender no matter what and his offense will just have to develop.

Kobe's assist turnover ratio was at least average and Shaq's was definitely better than the average center's. Neither was a below average passer or decision-maker.
Pau has an outstanding assist:to ratio for a PF/C. So all you've done is mentioned 3 payers who were anywhere from average to outstanding.

centers must have really sucked at passing back then because shaq's a/t numbers sucked.

without bothering to look at the numbers i saw shaq improv his passing soon after he arrived with the lakers. are you looking at the entire career as a whole or over the years? did he remain the same or did he improve?

about the same to me. a few 3. whatevers with nearly the same amount of TOs.

I think we can add Evan Turner to the list. I know that you guys are probably not a big fan of his but I personally believe in his talent. Doug Collins doesn't have the best of reputations when it comes to developing talent (with except to Jrue Holiday), which I think has stifled Evan's development. Even so, he has displayed a bit of the promise that made him the no.2 overall pick in the 2010 draft. I think he can be an especially good point-forward for us given his ability to rebound the ball and spark the break, as well as his excellent ballhandling abilities. Defensively, I think he is pretty underrated especially with his length to distract shooters. As for offensively, he still is a work in progress but has the skills to be an effective midrange game, which is key to being a good scorer. I wonder if the Sixers would be interested in anything we have or could get?

Centers (both then and now) usually are a little worse than 1 to 1. You never noticed that just from watching? That's a clear failure of the eyeball test!

I think Evan is a solid player, not as good as some thought he would be considering his draft position, but I think there is room for growth with him.. but we have nothing the sixers want...

Yeah I agree that it'd be tough to get him. Given the circumstances, we'd need a third team to get it done. Heading into the deadline, the Sixers were reportedly interested in giving up both Turner and Hawes for Josh Smith. The key might be to figure out a way to get Smith to the Sixers, which might be possible if we moved Tyson Chandler or Iman Shumpert (the later being the less ideal solution). I think Evans would be worth it because like you, I think his best days are to come. At worst, I think he'll be the all-star caliber version of John Salmons with the Bulls and Bucks. For the record, I know that Salmons was never an all-star but had all-star like performances during the 2nd half of the season, his first season with both teams.

yea, one thing I learned, you don't have to be voted and all star to perform like one.. Salmons is that type of guy you like to have on your team.. a guy who can score and at times defend...he can start, come off the bench, sort of a utility guy with starter skills...

Had we had a pick or another young player to throw in the fold, we probably could use shumpert to get in such a deal, but we don't have that.. which is why I hate giving up multiple youngings and picks in a deal.. I don't like the idea of moving shumpert in such a deal because ideally I would like to add turner to a team with shumpert on it... both guys can defend, and you could put a unit on the floor with two very good defenders at the wing position. I just love having good, athletic wing defenders... not sure if the hawks would want any parts of tyson chandler.. not with the new GM ferry in cost cutting mode...
