We really could have had the role players needed to fill our holes with this draft and by unloading Chandler but I would be surprised if Portland would even take such a deal
Muscula
Ryan Kelly
Ledo
Pierre Jackson
Eric Green
I think there is still good talent undrafted and would offer deals for MORE than 1 year for
Jamalle Haggins
Dwayne Davis'
I guess we will be looking for vet min PG's
We drafted the position we needed the least help in with Iman here
Well even with Iman, 2G was still a need. JR may not be retained and even if he is, we could still use another 2/3 for depth there anyway but I feel ya -- I just don't think it's a bigger need than PG (who's Felton's backup as of right now? Do we really go with Prigioni? He's gonna want a raise over last yr -- he's in the twilight of his career over 35, can't penetrate, may not be capable of playing big mins at this stage, etc.) or a bigger need for a big man with some skill (Chandler's overrated and can't be counted on for anything more than a supporting role; Amar'e's always hurt--if he breaks down again we have ZERO inside scoring presence; K-mart and Camby are long in the tooth and not nearly the same players they once were, etc.). As of right now, we're looking at playing Melo out of position once again -- how do you not correct that?? I dunno man...To me PG and getting a skilled big man were definitely bigger priorities over drafting a wing. We didn't even take the best wing available imo -- I feel out of Crabbe, Bullock, Rice Jr and Hardaway, we took the worst player of the 4.
Grunwald's saying he tried hard to get into the 2nd round for more help so I guess we gotta go easy.
Totally agree on Jamelle Hagins and Dwayne Davis. Two quality leftovers that have Vegas SL written all over them. I can't believe Hagins slipped through the draft -- I like him more than Tony Mitchell. The CJ Leslie signing was nice -- but you're not done, Glen. Keep going...Bring these guys in for SL and I'll be happy:
Jamelle Hagins
Dwayne Davis
Tyler Brown -- you guys seen tape of this kid? Tell me he doesn't resemble JR Smith a great deal -- he's a couple of inches shorted but man, the quickness, the superb handle for a 2--he can get anywhere he needs to get to on the court at will, the assortment of dribble-back moves to free himself for jumpers, the above average athleticism to get up and throw some dunks down -- it all resembles JR Smith a great deal, the whole package. This kid was over 40% from 3-pt land in college, he went for 20 ppg and hit 13 3s at Portsmouth and he showed he can get to the line at Illinois State and knock em down. Man, would I love to see this kid up close in Vegas. Could be a more efficient-shooting JR Smith w/o all the nonsense..
And maybe reach out to Patty Mills' agent and see what his deal is -- maybe he'd be willing to decline his player option & come here for $2M and a guarantee of 20+ mins a night. That's gotta be more appealing than serving as the 4th PG on SA's depth chart and carrying Tony Parker's luggage again I would think. All this dude needs is steady PT somewhere and he'll produce -- he's done it everywhere he's ever been..Here's our quick, break-you-down skilled PG right here.
Then there's the plethora of good cheap talent out there we could fill up on -- there's real quality young players available at every position..
Not how I would've gone about this so far but there's still time to pad this roster and continue improving depth. Let's see where we go from here.
