"Huge"? You're talking about the $3.75 coming off the cap? The only way I can imagine that being relevant is if the Knicks add a lot of other bad contracts between now and 2015 and are desperate to find cap space. Even then, it's too small to call it huge.

not having him at all and having amare would be a huge benefit as well. having amare expire and having the pick is a huge benefit...

So in the new CBA a first round pick probably in the 25-30 range and 2 2nd round picks, 1 projected to be 59, is super duper valuable, but nearly 4M in additional cap space and 2 big expiring deals is not?

I understand the frustration with giving away picks but at least be fair.

Assuming 2015 is one of the motives why the Knicks did this trade. I don't think it is. Not the way the Knicks operate as they refused to give Lin 3yrs which would e fell in line with 2015 and elected to give Felton 4yrs into 2016. Then giving Novak 4yrs. Maybe they've finally seen the light. We will see with the next big move. History proves the Knicks can't get out of their own way though

So we will indulge in the basketball aspect. Bargnani's impact will be in pulling opposing bigs (attn: Roy Hibbert) out of the painted area with his perimeter shooting, which would allow Carmelo and Amar'e to work. However, before we think he could potentially replace Tyson Chandler, we remind you that defense and rebounding are important.

And what will happen when hibbert gets the ball on offense?

He scores

Expiring contracts have value if u can put picks next to them to get good players. Without picks all u can take on is longer contracts of players the teams dont want. Thats Laydens strategy, that destroyed the franchise

VDesai @ 7/1/2013 1:57 PM
The point is its not a premium pick- chances are if we do suck we can use the expiring contracts to get back draft picks if we so want.

doesn't Amare and Chandler come off the books at the same time?

Right. That huge amount off the books is why the $3.75 is probably going to be irrelevant.
When I said unless "the knicks add a lot of other bad contracts," what I meant was that they might be trading Chandler, Amare, or other players for longer contracts. It certainly wouldn't surprise me if they did that.

Bargnani's trade value will increase as he enters his final year.
The Knicks can always trade him for a pick and fodder to team a looking to dump salary.

His trade value can only increase.

a team looking to dump salary is trying to do what? rebuild, right? so why would they be looking to give up premium picks? but then again, if we are going to take on someone's salary dump, doesn't this go against the 2015 cap space clearing mission?

Often teams looking to dump salary are keying in making a run on a big FA target.
Remember the McGrady trade?

actually not, bargs 1 on 1 defense is actually quite good and all the advanced stats back that up.

it's his help defense and his recovery that is nonexistent. he has very weak hands so he will fumble at least 1 rebound a game.

the knicks have again left themselves with no back up plan via the draft. it's always going to be trades, FA's, MLE's...but never draft. do they have any first round picks over the next 4 years?

THAT IS one other option as well, so that only limits your trading partners as well

I think the pacers will gladly take bargs garding hibbert all day...

Why do you keep thinking Bargs will guard Hibbert? Bargs is a power forward, like Dirk, not center.

the quote was him stretching the floor and hibbert having to come out and guard him.... I am wondering why hibbert will have to guard him and how him stretching the floor will be any difference than novak?

Bargs can actually put the ball on the floor, unlike Novak.

djsunyc @ 7/1/2013 3:15 PM
hibbert won't be guarding bargs b/c he can't

the first play is what novak can not do.

play pick and pop all day with him.

if amare is healthy in the postseason, i can actually see him and bargs at the 4/5 to actually neutralize hibbert's effect on the game.

after the sting passes, he will be dead to me. just need a couple of hours to shake it off.

my hope, he scores 30 ppg while the knicks are on their way to 30 wins...
