There's a reason arguably lesser Shooting Guard talents like JJ Redick and Kevin Martin are already off the market so quickly before JR.
Every team that even considers signing him will have the "Buyer's beware" sticker attached.
Why am I getting lumped in the D league statement I clearly said NBA. You guys remember Tony Campbell on the T-Wolves he averaged 24 points per game game as the main option. He came to the Knicks and averaged a lot less. The green light is the key, there are a lot of players in the NBA who can give those numbers when given the opportunity. I think Shumpert is ready for his opportunity the only way I see Shumpert elevating his game is to remove Smith from his way.
Have you forgotten what he did in the playoffs as a second option he throws an elbow at Terry that basically changed the complexion of the entire playoffs for the Knicks. The partying during playoffs he has been in plenty of playoffs to know what a player is suppose to do and yet he does everything against the grain. You have to ask yourself is this guy serious. Personally I find him to be selfish and irresponsible. You know what I wouldn't want my young players around him. Character is very important in an individual when it comes to team sports.

Shumpert's time to shine, JR had his chance, blew it once he blew chunks on Rihanna's tits 5AM during the playoffs.
Oddly enough no one on this thread mentioned JR's defense. That is what sets him ahead of Reddick type players. Like some others I don't think 42% shooting can be that hard to find when the role is "shooting" guard. But he played good defense for the most part and had the ability to create his own shot.
I think the problem with JR is that Woodson set the bar to low. As soon as he won 6th man he began to celebrate and lost focus. I think the same could be said for the entire team. While they talked championship, the goal was to win the division and get past the 1st round.
Hopefully they can now build upon that and get to the finals, but i think it's to soon to be counting on the home town discount for FA's. these are their prime earnings years and dollars talk louder then words. I wouldn't give us more then a 30% chance of signing JR, Cope, Brand. I do however think we have a good shot at signing Priggs, but it could take half the mini mle to do it.
I'm excited to, but just trying to be realistic here.

Martin is a good shooter but, unlike JR, he does not play defense and isn't as good a distributor. We already have one dimensional player(s) on the team, he'd be one too many imo

I'll give you the defense point but his outside shot is deadly if you watched him in the playoffs you saw he can most def knock down tuff shots. Also he would be a better distributor than JR!
Martin is a well rounded consistent offensive player. He just can't defend like JR

Please name all of those guys over the past 3-4 years.
And defend too...That's the case for JR in a nutshell... But he's not as good as Jared Dudley or JJ Redick though, have I got you right?
You just made the case for JR to the Clippers for Bledsoe (or enough to at least have had meaningful dialogue with the Clippers, let's put it that way). You told me on the other thread that my offer "wasn't even close" to being enough; now you're singing JR's praises...LOL.

Kevin Martin cant create off the dribble so he cant. Kevin Martin only takes open shots he isnt a chucker its not him. He is poor shooter when contested

VMart and ChuchBuck just compared JR to DLeague guys who we can pick up for nothing.... still am waiting for any suggestions as to who those guys would be.
And LAC still doesn't trade for JR even though he does have some VERY good qualities. Do you remember a guy called Jamal Crawford? Well he plays a very similar role as JR for the Clips.
LAC was looking for SG/SF to spread the floor for CP3, Blake. Guys who know their role as spacers and are pesky on defense. There is no way in HELL they trade for JR and TH Jr over those guys and it already has shown in their move.

I'm leaning towards bringing JR back but for 3yrs only. If he is offered something better than we should let him walk. Not worth having him on the roster making $7mil in 2018. JR is fine on this team as long as he is not the 2nd option. He will win you a handful of games

I said nothing about D-league for the record. I really don't care if he comes back I already know Knicks aren't winning any championship. With or without JR. I all know is that Knicks need to start preparing for the future and that is Shumpert and Hardaway. Keeping JR around is meaningless because it does nothing for the Knicks going forward.
I just don't understand how anyone would want this 42% shooter, unreliable on and off the court, who has displayed selfishness in his acts on the court and off. If the Knicks give him an offer I can't see giving him a 2 years contract 1 year maybe if he walks good luck to the team he joins.

In addition I'm pretty excited to see what CJ Leslie does in summer camp. I think this kid may be able to become a solid role player in the league.
IMHO, we need to bring back JR Smith but at the end of the day we can only offer what we can offer. He's worth more money on the open market but hopefully he'll choose to stay. If not it will be a loss that we won't be able to recover from.
JR is the key to off-season.
I actually think if we can re-sign JR --- you could see another trade go down.
You are jumping gun on Brand/Prigs but lets assume you are correct. That is a nice 7 to start with, I love the Leslie pick-up (#8)
-- if we can resign JR (#9) -- that is a very nice 9 players
I'd love to be able to grab a pg like (Nate or Bynum) but if we have Felton & Prigs already --- don't know that guys would want to come or that we'd have any $ left. If we go vet min for 3rd guard (I might like old Bobby Brown better than NBA vet like Watson).
SF is another possibility --- Delfino/Barnes would be great but again -- playing time and $$$ issues.
