Definitely sign Artest if we have the option, would be our best signing of the offseason. Remember, everything is in the context of the opposition. He would be the unlikely "stretch 4" who can physically match West and Boozer on Indiana and Chicago.
I haven't really watched him in a few years, but I remember people saying he wasn't a good defender anymore- is this true or was it just from playing under D'Antoni?
If we're playing Melo at PF, we have no SF's really- it's worrying. What teams are still under the cap that might make a bid on him when he's amnestied?
If his head is squarely on his shoulders, than Woodson is the right coach to harness him. The shot doctor Hopla might help him get more consistency on his shot too. I think we need some more bulldog mentality on the bench. We got pushed around by the Pacers. We still had a shot to beat them in spite of our poor shooting, but we got out physicaled a bit too much by guys like Stevenson and Hibbert.

I wonder if Metta could be a 20 minute starter. Tyson, Melo, Metta, Shump, Felton.... or not enough ball movement?
I want no part of Ron...I don't think New York environment would do him any good. He's pretty much gassed too, he's a had a good career though.
I think Metta would be ok on ball movement, not like any worse than JR or Melo. And this wont be a retirement spot for him. What I am more worried about is how much partying he would do with the Queensbridge kin and take JR along with him. That would kill any momentum Woodson hopes to build.
As far as his talent/value, no question he would be able to help the Knicks backing up Melo.
JR, Amare, Metta off the bench with Prigs would be awesome!

Mismanaged because the team is over the cap, and therefore can't bid on a player you just called gassed two posts ago?
There is plenty of reason to believe this team has been mismanaged in some shape or form, but this isn't it.
Not sure how large the market is on Metta. Would not be surprised at all to see him clear the waiver wire.

Sounds like his agent will force teams to pass up on him. He just isn't the type of player most teams want to bother with, especially if he makes it obvious he won't be interested in going there. I bet he clears waivers and signs with us.

I agree with your point to the degree if you're trying to win now, generally your payroll is high but when I said mismanaged....
You never know who could get amnestied/waived etc etc. It's the principle of not having the option to do so. Like every corner we turn our options are limited. If there is a waiver period, he could possibly clear it but still. It's crazy to think a team like San Antonio operated with like a 55-65mil cap figure for yrs while being ELITE.
Perfect fit at starting small forward. Would love to get him, sign KMart, Get Chauncey. I think the only weaker spot would be PG.....If only we could somehow get Rondo....

Metta putting it out there that he is going to retire if he is claimed by a non big market team and the rumors are that he wants NY.
He's always wanted to play in NY and had expressed interest in coming here if he were to be amnestied. Sign the man!
