Lets consider the real way francises work. First off you don't bring in guys like Dice or resign H20 without the owners direct involvement. All the GM's in the league are given all power to direct a franchise whose members now command a min price of 550mil (SAC) and you think a neophyte like Layden is empowered to trade ewing, bring in a max player like Dice, or empowered to give a 100 mil contract? Your naive!
H20 don't opt out and go free to test the market, it was an exercise already determined. How do I know this? Because its insane to have handed out that kind of money to him! Its not logical!
Dice was a big trade and one that did not turn out but it was a gamble. Dice knee that blew out was not the one that was operated on and while we all think our Docs are morons (no evidence otherwise) to vet a contract requires lawyers and medical evaluation. These trades are not made on a whim!

The Knicks sent Glen Rice and $1 million to the Rockets and Mugsy Bogues to the Mavericks. The Mavericks sent Howard Eisley to the Knicks and the rights to 2nd round pick Kyle Hill with $1 million to the Rockets. After all these deals were done the Knicks were stuck with two mediocre players in Anderson and Eisley that now possessed long-term contracts.
That clearly has Layden written all over it. He previously drafted both those dudes in Utah. Dolan barely knows the names of his employees!

Cuban, I can understand. Guy's a business genius. Steinbrenner took a cheap investment, The Yankees at the time, and transformed them into a sports and business empire. But Dolan??? The guy that dropped out of school, had a nasty drug habit, and fell into corporate America simply by having the same last name as his rich as hell Father?!!??
I'll give you, Dolan was an "enabler" for the Isiah era, but the Scott Layden era had Layden's ass prints all over it.
Sorry Nalod, if your version of Knicks history begins and ends with Dolan. It ain't that simple.
