No one wanted to give him 5 year guaranteed money which is what he wanted. Phoenix was offering him a 5 year deal with only first two years guaranteed. Even at that time my take was we should have given him a 5 year deal with 70-75 max and 60 guaranteed for first 4 years. And he would have taken it because it was more guaranteed money than anyone thought he was worth. But we bid against ourselves to pay him $100M instead with no options.

suns were offering a 5 year deal with only 3 years guaranteed.
knicks came up with a 5 year guaranteed deal w/o insurance.

I think Nets, Clips, Bulls only teams that had cap space and real shot at any of the big free agents. Clips prob weren't real contenders for Amare.
There wasn't a lot of talk surrounding Amare but that's not too surprising since Lebron dominated the conversation. We signed him before Lebron made his announcement that he was going to Miami.

I really hated this signing
Like Martin said Bulks, Nets and Clips also wanted him as did Phx - but no one was going to guarantee more than two years. The 5 -year guaranteed thing was wrong, $100M was beyond bad.
