Source: West in conversations with New York, Memphis
July 27, 2013, 2:15 pm
The New York Knicks and the Memphis Grizzlies are on the lookout for a backup point guard and according to a source close to the situation, both teams have inquired about the services of Delonte West.
The source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, says talks between the two teams have ramped up recently, however they are termed as being “preliminary at this point” with no offers presented as of yet.
Both teams shall remain in contact with West as they continue to survey the market.
West, 30, is driven to prove that he will be a model citizen and believes himself to be the missing piece to a team on the cusp of winning an NBA title. New York and Memphis fits the ideal situation he's looking for in an organization, another source told CSNNW.com.
The eight-year guard has a career average of 9.7 points, 2.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists. He shoots a career 37 percent from three-point range. He did not play in the NBA during the 2012-13 season.
LeBrom blackballed him from the game. I don't know we have a few crazy's on the team and have not answered the question of another big defensive man. We are going old again. With woody as the coach I can't see the young players touching the court. Bargani will be the missing link. Either he has it or he don't. Let's see. Let's see if Melo and Amare ops out of there contract and maybe put some of Amare's money on the back end and Melo taking a little less in order to bring in another big name. We need a center that can score and I mean a 7 footer not a 6:10 or 6.9. If Chandler goes down who do we have? A 6.9 footer cant guard Hibbert. Instead of West we better get a big man in here and stop messing with the point guard thing. We have enough of them coming to Training camp.

- id take a chance on D. West. I think hes a solid player and still relatively young (just turned 30). i think hed be on his best behavoir to prove the NBA wrong. however i DO see the concern about his mental illness
- yes i think lebron blackballed him out of the NBA
- youre right...we still need a defensive big man. a LEGIT one over 7ft. I have no idea who that would be
- amare is NOT opting out of 20mill cuz he knows hes not worth it. lol
- melo will opt out of 20mill to ask for 25 mill for another 5 yrs (and yes we might foolishly give him that)
- i hope bargnani NEVER sees the floor...hes absolutely horrible on defense and streaky on offense

I can see it now:
Memphis signs Delonte West- writers say it's a really worthwhile gamble, if he can keep his head on straight they got a real bargain who can contribute.
Knicks sign Delonte West- ha, he's going to implode, the Knicks should be filled with drama this season, this move reeks of desperation, blah blah blah!

As a psychotherapist, a team with Delonte West and MWP on it, is a team I can really root for!

Delante always showed an ability to play with poise....he's a good ball player no doubt. Would be really good off the bench.
The knicks locker room would have its fair share of crazy. Kmart, Delante, MwP.....you need guys that play and don't give a damn. Soldiers. These guys are definitely soldiers.

I don't know why JR and K-Mart get tagged as being volatile- they've had very few blow-ups over their career- heck, I've had more temper tantrums than they have over the past ten years! I think JR especially gets a bum rap- he was problem free all year, worked hard, came off the bench without sulking and listened to the coach. He elbowed Terry, but it's hardly an unforgivable crime. Everyone (including myself) was quick to assume he was parting oo hard in the playoffs, but it turned out his performance was due to a chipped ACL and torn meniscus which he tried to play through (compare to Jeremey Lin who ran off to have surgery and wouldn't come back).
Being diagnosed bipolar, doesn't mean you can't be a basketball player- just means he'll have his emotional ups and downs. You just need to make sure that you have the right support available for him when he's at a low point. He hasn't really had many incidents over his career either.
To be honest everyone will probably know someone who may meet the criteria for a bipolar diagnosis, but will be unawares of it- I think the media attention he gets makes things more difficult (most people will go off by themselves and keep it quiet when at a low point).
The only thing that worries me about West is that he had a bit of a sh**y attitude with the Mavs (a hard organization to p*** off!).

He's 30. This is part of our youth movement.
EnySpree@ 7/28/2013 9:42 AM
Delante, Mo Williams, Beno Urich, Bobby brown....that's some good talent....the knicks still are in a good position. There's no money left. So the chips may fall in our favor with this. Someone us going to step in to play for a winning team

Is Delonte any good at running the PG spot?

smh!! lol
dk7th@ 7/28/2013 2:00 PM
he was an above average defender and the knicks need defenders. if new york city swallows him whole then so be it.
VDesai@ 7/28/2013 7:42 PM
Knicks could use a swing guard. They have 2 PGs and he can play spot minutes at PG behind them. I think he's a good addition from a basketball standpoint- I just have no idea where his head is at. Guy's been a bad seed, but he is definitely an NBA talent.

In the regular season the team can get by with that. Chandler has to not have the FLu in the playoffs

I don't agree that we need a swing guard. We already have JR, Shump and Hardaway. But I do believe that we need another defender at the point guard slot. I'm excited by the offensive potential a guy like Bpbby Brown, I think West is teh safer bet in terms of play on the court. I know West can play D against NBA point guards and knock down an open 3. And honestly, as dysfunctional as our franchise has been the past few decades, does anyone in this organization have the right to question another person's sanity?
