Knicks · What kind of PG suits Woodson? (page 1)

gunsnewing @ 8/1/2013 10:17 AM
In my opinion a heady halfcourt floor leader who doesn't call his own number and get in Melos way but can score at an efficient way when the ball is in his hands because of the defensive sceme. A pg who fights over screens when the Knicks defense is rotating.

Felton doesn't do any if these things. Fight over picks, stay in front of his man, make heady plays and his shot is extremely streaky.

A ball dominant pg who thinks scoring first and a uptempo pg doesn't work either. Melo needs the ball in the halfcourt.

Felton doesn't excel in any. Who would be that guy rondo? Who else?

Citibank?
NYKBocker @ 8/1/2013 10:25 AM
Best PG for Melo is Rubio.

It's amazing to me that people talk about Felton like he's a bad PG. He was very good last year. I agree he needs to be better on D, but on offense he was good. Definitely worth more than what we are paying him.

But, the best PG for this team (aside from CP3) would be Rondo. I'd give up anyone on the team not named Melo for him.

Not sure why peeps are hating on Felton. Anyway, Rondo would be absolutely amazing. I'd take Rondo over CP3 any day of the week. Best Pure point in the league imo.

I don't hate the guy just wanna go deeper in the playoffs but I'm resigned to waiting til 2015. You have to excel on both ends of the court to go deep into the playoffs

Then maybe your target should be our favorite man of Glass, Amare. If there is any reason for our failures, it lies with his inability to live up to his contract. He inability to play during the post season has hurt this team chances more than anyone else. Now with the minutes restriction, he is pretty useless since it offense will be obvious once he's in. Because of the restriction everyone will know the ball will be going to Amare for the next 7minutes or so.

yellowboy90 @ 8/1/2013 10:59 AM
The post injury Felton is pretty good. The Felton who didn't take over 19 shots in a game. If they can go into the season healthy there is enough depth to keep Felton from taking many shots. HE will need to increase the assist total but that may come up.

No Felton is not perfect but he can be a useful starter if he stays in his lane.

True but it doesn't mean you can't improve the offense with players that fit wih Melo. Even if Amare was healthy he would still collide with Melos game. Remember how awful they looked under Dantoni the offensive guru?

gunsnewing @ 8/1/2013 11:31 AM
I guess we can roll the dice on beno or brown and hope that they have a Linsanity like run
callmened @ 8/1/2013 12:17 PM
is this a bash ray felton thread or a real question? lol

regardless...its a good question and ive often thought of it.

in my opinion, its:
- a PG who can manage the ball with few mistakes/turnovers
- feed the star players (usually in ISO)
- as a defensive coach, stop the other PG
- o yeah, feed the star players

Ray fits what woody wants in my opinion. is ray great? no? but hes not significant enough to think he can make or break a team. I can think of ten other problems besides ray running the point

gunsnewing @ 8/1/2013 12:30 PM
Like I said I don't hate Felton. I just want to see a deep playoff run and the right pg gives us a better chance. Woodson needs a pg who will run the offense so he doesn't have to. It's why things went great the first 18games when Kidd was fresh. Unfornately he got old quick. Smart passes, ball movement, the right pass. Not just dump the ball to Melo like it became and we were exposed in the playoffs. That works against the magic and bobcats but not indiana

Ball movement returned later in the yr with prigs starting

I think things took a turn when D12 tried to end Melo's career. The Knicks were 18-5 and then went 8-8 for their next 16 games. Melo was unbelievable at the start of the season.

Hold up

Woodson needs a pg who will run the offense so he doesn't have to.

Coaches coach from the bench. They do not run the offense.

Basketball is not paint by numbers.

IronWillGiroud @ 8/1/2013 1:17 PM
one that will automatically pass to melo when he crosses half court
tj23 @ 8/1/2013 1:25 PM
A pick and roll pg, which Ray is not. Somehow he forgot all that work he did in his first stint with us. That and Tyson sets screens like a ten year old.
gunsnewing @ 8/1/2013 1:28 PM
Good point on Tyson. That is a problem. AMare too. He rolls to the basket too soon. I suppose Artest will help here. Like Jared Jeffries did
