Knicks · Feeling Good About This Team! (page 2)

I agree but I think Shumpert will give you more penetration and kick outs and smart passes than JR who will be chucking away on contested turn arounds.

He is a chucker but, I don't think JR is as bad as you think he is(or not as bad as you may think). Novak did credit JR as the one who most often set him up for his 3's. I think JR is a better facilitator than Shump is right now.

You must feel like I'm stalking you but, just coincidence, I assure you

gunsnewing @ 8/2/2013 3:14 PM
Lol it's ok

Yea JR found Novak a few times. I also saw him miss him wide open too and chuck up a bad shot in ISO mode

What I Did on my Summer Vacation

Ray Felton worked like he had a chip on his shoulder
I Man Shumoert avoided Summer League and strengthened his Titanium knees to full capacity
Ron Artest picked number 51
Carmelo was spotted at Greenburgh, firing up jumpers
Tyson Chandler lifted weights in his rec room

Beno Udrih went condo shopping in Chelsea with a smile on his face
Earl Smith changed his name to Simon Phoenix
Tim Hardaway Jr worked on his ball handling and shot selection. He is a rookie.
Andrea Bargnani went condo shopping in SoHo with a smile on his face
Jeremy Tyler went to the NBA Store and toured Madison Square Garden. His eyes got big.

CJ Leslie sat in the stands at the Rucker. No one recognized him.
Pablo Prigioni reloaded his Metrocard and made some new friends.

Mike Woodson spoke to them all once a week.

This team still has to deliver in teh playoffs. I was feeling really good last year heading into the playoffs. We had a 13 game winning streak and then we went up 3-0 on the Celtics. Then the team sort of fell apart. 50 wins is nice but i dont care about 50 wins anymore i want a deep playoff run

No lie when we were on the 13 game win streak I told my co-worker who is also a die hard Knicks fan that we were peaking to early. I was nervous that since we were a streaky team that we would hit a cold stretch right smack in the playoffs. I thought we would be cold in the first rd with a tough series vs the Celtics. But I also thought we would get through that and catch fire again in the 2nd.

nixluva @ 8/8/2013 9:14 PM
What we know now is that too many of our key players were breaking down. JR, Melo, Tyson, Kidd and then Felton. The key this year is going to be the depth and higher level of talent this year. This team is starting off with a stronger team 1-15 (no matter who it is that they sign last). They tried to make it thru the year with the AARP Crew but it just didn't hold up. In truth the team didn't have enough front line talent to keep the old guys from having to play too much and some guys just never did really get going. In any event this team is stronger.

I would expect this team to be stronger in the playoffs. The goal has to be ECF's at least. Just getting to the 2nd rd won't be enough.

IronWillGiroud @ 8/9/2013 7:17 AM
goal is ecf and we will be lucky to make second round because the numbers are so bad on bargs, he's actually sinking our ship,

also, my prediction: jr got payed so you will not see the same intensity from him at any point in the season, it's rhianna time all year for him now,

gunsnewing wrote:Lol it's ok

like Shump hasn't done the same thing. You picking at straws and anytime you look hard enough for something to criticize you will likely find it. Novak went on record saying that JR was the one most likely to find when he was open. The fact remains that Shump HAS NOT shown that he isn't a superior passer (even the stat geeks here will likely agree with that) from the post or anywhere else. You made a baseless claim, just man up, its no crime to be wrong.

Erniecat @ 8/9/2013 8:14 AM
I think the team is better than last year mainly because we have essentially gotten rid of the old folks, who were either always injured or ineffective when we really needed them, and replaced them with a nice mix of younger vets and promising youth.

So hopefully we will avoid the injuries that killed us last year, which by itself should make us better.

I am very anxious to see how this team looks. Woodson has a lot of legit parts to work with, so it will be interesting to see how he divides the minutes.

That said, the East will obviously be ferocious at the top, so getting to the ECF will be mighty tough. But, IF we stay reasonably healthy and make a full-time commitment on defense, we have a real shot.

There is a lot of truth in that but, lets not forget that Sheed gave us good minutes when we pretty much had no one else to fill that hole. He helped us get off to a good start which was VERY important. Kidd played (the 1st half of the season) like a damn Jedi Knight on the defense out there, coming up with BIG steals when we needed them most and Kurt Thomas gave us damn good minutes when we needed them and even played with a fractured foot because the game meant so much to him. I think a thread should exist thanking those Vets for the help the gave New York.

franco12 @ 8/9/2013 9:05 AM
this is a team of question marks.

Theoretically, this group could come together, and individuals could perform to comparable past production.

But I am worried that we have too many question marks. Much like last year.

Could Kidd & Camby actually contribute? No, we got 1 great month out of Kidd and that created a false sense of hope and expectations.

Could Amar'e stay healthy? No.

Would JR stop being a chucker-knucklehead? He did for much of the regular season, then degraded in the play offs. Granted- some of that might have been injury, but clearly he regressed mentally during the play offs.

This upcoming season:

Can Melo stay healthy? He has a ton of minutes on his body. His shoulder was a big issue- and I am worried that it won't actually be healed without surgery.

What can Amar'e give us? Even if he plays 82 games and plays 20 minutes, what kind of impact can that actually make?

Can Bargs remain healthy and return to prior performance?

On paper, things look promising. And granted, every team every year has question marks surrounding it.

Man, I am expecting NOTHING for Amare. When he plays, to be effective they will have to force feed him because he will only be out there for a few minutes. That will make the offense TOO predictable and if he can't give us at least a productive 20minutes, he might as well be the 15th guy on the roster.

What I meant is, if you look at our old players from last year, in the end we were hurt either by injuries (namely Camby and Sheed) or ineffectiveness when it counted the most (Kidd in the playoffs).

I know we got great and key contributions at times from them, but the real bottom line is that we were counting on these "old" guys to be pretty key players, and that really hurt us in the end. In the end, their age showed, whether through injury (Camby and Sheed), or from being worn down from a full season (Kidd).

your right, its just that those Vets have been taken a beating on this board when they should be appreciated for what they did bring. How I WISH Kidd hasn't forgotten how to shoot by seasons end and gave us nothing in the post season. Even more than that, I wish we'd have had a healthy Sheed. I think the Indiana series would have been very different had we had or Kurt in the lineup.

Any production that Amare brings that keeps the Knicks in the + column of games is definitely a bonus.

Just can't see him playing more than a string of games, before we get another "debridement" or back tightening.

Dude really needs to go to Germany like 5 years ago like Kobe to get Blood Platelets from a Munich Hooker. Alas, too late for that...

He is done.

Did somebody say jeremy Tyler?

THAT to me is the only bright spot....that he won't be taking much if any time away from the young guys. Has anyone heard if Jordan was invited to camp?
