Knicks · Cope had knee surgery (page 2)

should make at least a few posters happy.

MEDICAL APPOINTMENT: The Knicks are also reshuffling the medical staff, as strength and conditioning coach Bill Burgos has returned to the Orlando Magic after spending the last two seasons in New York. Burgos departed because of family reasons, and was not being singled out for the Knicks’ injury problems last season. The Knicks lost a total of 254 player games to injuries last year. Only the Minnesota Timberwolves (341) had more. The Wizards were third with 221.

maybe he is really the Shawnee Williams for this year, don't wish anything bad upon him though not health wise just because he did what was most likely his best chance of ever getting paid in the NBA

copeland isnt the knicks prob now. if he doesnt recover/isnt the same, ind has probs.

That JR shit was on sportscenter, on sportstalk shows, sports internet sites about how bad of a signing it was. Guess what, the Knicks signed JR Smith, an above average player and current 6th man of the year to a 2 yr, 3rd year option for 5.5 per. The Pacers signed a 28 yr. old career euroleaguer to a 2 yr. 3.5 million per contract based on a year of spotty production, both need surgery soon after they are signed and the Knicks made the bad signing.

It's a joke.

gunsnewing @ 8/2/2013 3:21 PM
Yea but I don't think the pacers knew about Cope's injury. The Knicks knew about JR cos he is evaluated by their doctors

This is NOTHING like McDyess. Dyce BROKE his knee...much, much worse injury. Not like JR is going to go up for a rebound and RESHATTER it like Dyce did.

After the baffoon of a coach played him 40mins in his second game back- and in a preseason game too! Weep!

JR makes triple the salary and had a much more serious injury and surgery.

also jr is younger then cope

gunsnewing @ 8/2/2013 4:23 PM
LOL I think he means JR $18 cope $6. That's triple in total. The contract is irrelevant tho. When u sign a player off another team it's always possible to over look an injury. With JR the Knicks knew he was hurt before the playoffs started

It's also possible the Knicks knew of copeland a injury and but elected not to say anything to help him out with a contract. Sucks for Indy. He will help them but they are probably kicking themselves for waiting cap money on an injured player

Can't stop him from knocking down the jump shot, he will be fine just like JR Smith.

I agree but it is a bad break for a guy trying to crack the rotation on a new team. Stephenson, Watson, Mahini, Scola, Hill and Cope are going to vying for minutes on the second unit.

None of those players mentioned above can drain shots like Cope, he will be fine.

I was referring to total guaranteed money, which is $18 mil vs. $6 mil

It is a bit hypocritical of the media to have killed the Knicks for signing JR who needed surgery and not make as much noise about the Pacers signing Cope who needed surgery. It doesn't surprise me tho. This is life as a Knicks fan and since i'm also a Jets fan, it's just been my life.

I do think the Knicks have replaced Cope with THJ and AB. Knicks got BETTER. We've added more versatile players to replace the guys we had. Both the Pacers and Knicks will have guys coming off surgery so no real advantage either way. I think they wanted to add some depth on the bench while at the same time weakening us, but it didn't really work out to be an issue for the Knicks.

Sucks for him, good for us. JR for double the money per year(salary cap does not take all of contract years into consideration, only the current year)is a much more needed and legit investment. It actually doesn't suck that much for hime since he got the

You know it's the offseason when people are getting worked up about such small, inconsequential contracts!

Sorry for the long mini sabbatical before the reply. Been a busy weekend.

JR guaranteed is like 11.5 mil. That third year is a player option. Are you arguing that Copeland and JR are equal players? JR deserves more money, not to mention we could ONLY have spent that much money on JR, there were no other options for that salary slot. I am not sure where the reasoning comes in here.

Money being equal, because in my mind based on the players it is equal in relation to the quality of player, what is the difference?

So it is $18 vs. 6 mil. And I don't think JR is triple the player Cope is.
I don't object to the JR signing. I agree that we couldn't have spent it elsewhere. The topic of the thread was about why JR's injury is getting more attention than Copeland's is.

Beside the media hatred for everything New York I think it has more to do with JR being much more important to the Knicks than Copeland is to the Pacers. We have the reigning 6th man of the year and our 2nd highest scorer on the mend while Copeland is a bench player for the Pacers. However, had we been able to resign Cope with the pending knee surgery there would be a ton of backlash as in the Knicks don't know what the heck they're doing.

The thread was about the surgery. I kinda hijacked it when I started bitching about the media attention. Being a player option is not garaunteed money. It is technically garaunteed for him but it isn't for the Knicks. If he out plays his contract he is going to opt out. He has a very manageable contract for his production.

Beside the media hatred for everything New York yankees... throw in the giants at times. the rest... meh. having been outside the tri state area for 15+ years, the yankees remain the only team i have seen folks hate to no end, whether they are good or bad.

agree with what you are saying though.
