Knicks · J.R. is so dumb (page 3)

Not a ton bc he was still very inefficient but he showed he could really turn his career around. With that, it's NOT the bad performance alone that irritates me. It's the fact that he is drinking and apparently smoking and clubbing his brains out despite the fact that he's playing this bad. He has an obligation to the team. We needed him on his toes (to say the least) and he wasn't.I don't trust him.
I hate to break it to you, but most nba players do the same thing- heck, most people in life do the same thing. NBA players are young, they have money, fame, popularity, women throwing themselves at them- they're just enjoying themselves. I get annoyed when it impacts their performance, but then again how many of us have impacted our performance at work because we went out partying or whatever?
Most people in life do the same thing? As Bonn would say, "Show my your data" because I beg to differ. If your company is about to have a big time make or break moment and my top workers are out partying, I have to accept that bc everyone is doing that? How old are we now? How old is Smith? He has all of these days before him and ahead of him to party and waste his money away. Are you going to tell me that he just cannot show some form of self control and just go home for a month? Check out a movie? Go to a museum? He can't block it out for 2 small months?
If you are saying he can't, then we are dealing with someone with something we like to call a "drinking problem."
And how exactly do you know most NBA players go out partying and clubbing during their playoff runs while playing like absolute trash?
Yes, you're damn right I expect better out of the Knicks and I don't give a damn if every athlete on the planet is doing it.... which I am almost positive you are wrong about. But hey if I am wrong and you have the proof, I am right here to say "OK you're right." It doesn't make it right though. It just shows there is a much deeper issue needs to be fixed.
If I am about to possibly get a HUGE contract. I had some bad game in the playoffs. Am I even picking up a small glass of wine? Hell no. I am getting sleep, saying my prayers, getting up early, eating as well as I can, preparing as well as I can and giving myself as much rest that my body needs.
Is that really that hard for a pro athlete? If it is then I think that's a very sad thing.
Again, it's worldview. Any of the points you're making about what you would do are pointless. Have you been a world-class athelete since middle school? Did you have any scouts drooling over your game in high school? JR Smith lives a different reality than you do. He was 18 and playing in the effing NBA! Can you even fathom what that would be like?
It's nice for you to say what YOU would do when faced with a HUGE contract. You probably went to school, finished college, got a job and pay your mortgage and other bills. You get up and go to work in the morning. You cut your grass and clean your garage and wash your car like the rest of us.
JR Smith just bought a Bentley. The young man's not living your life. It is a shame that someone who's physical abilities have allowed him to have life by the short hairs, can't see that his actions are a sure way to just cutting his own throat. The world of professional sports is filled with idiots. If they were all brain surgeons, they'd probably be doing something different.
Him being super dumb, reckless, and incredibly stupid cost the Knicks severely. We just need him to be average stupid.
And you are pretty much correct. Thank you.

This true. Apples to apples.
But there are a lot of players in NBA with a talent as great as JR or even better but also smart responsible people.
It is what it is for the dude. But this does not mean Knicks have to eat the crap JR is producing.

I do not worry about JR. I am Knicks fan not JR fan.
I want o have decent people on my team first and bbal talents second.
Everybody in NBA are bbal talents. Not sure why Knicks always take a flyer on some addicts, malcontents, softy, selfish players.
I guess owner is looking for perfect much for his own character.

I cant honestly say I've ever heard a fan care about the "decency" of a player, it's on the court that matters.
Decency may matter for the star player, since he's the face of the franchise...after it's all about the talent.
Now whether the Knicks win or not, you'll find quite a few champions and contenders have that one player in some of these "addicts, malcontents, softy, selfish players" categories.
Ask Miami about Birdman, The Lakers with Artest, Pistons with Rasheed and previously Rodman back in the day, whom even though they didnt win Pop had interest in Rodman too.
JR is merely a piece to the puzzle, just shouldnt be a major piece like he was last year.

JR's performance is going to be off at times. I've already stated he has no excuses for that. He needs none. Nobody's perfect.

And poor performance doesn't either, just like it didn't negate it for the Mrs. Tyson Hibbert and Jason the 12% Kidd.
J.R. Smith, in his first remarks since receiving a five-game NBA suspension for failing his third marijuana test, said he feels bad for disappointing many in the Knicks organization, including owner James Dolan.
“The worst thing is I feel let my teammates down,’’ Smith said Monday at Knicks Media Day. “I let Mr. Dolan down. I’m looking to move forward from it. As soon as I’m able to play, I’m hoping to have a good season.’’
In a surprising remark, Smith contradicted the Knicks’ version of why he delayed offseason knee surgery. Smith knew he likely needed surgery on his chipped patella tendon after the season ended in mid-May, but he waited until mid-July after re-signing with the Knicks.
The Knicks have said Smith wanted to see whether the injury healed, but Smith called it a “family decision” and said he wanted to get his contract status resolved before undergoing surgery.Smith is rehabbing from knee surgery, and said he hopes to be ready physically for the season opener. However, he then would have to begin serving the five-game ban, meaning he likely would not debut until the season’s sixth game at the Garden against the Spurs.
Mike Woodson didn’t sound happy about Smith’s drug suspension.
“I don’t condone anything like that,’’ Woodson said. “J.R. knows he made a major mistake. Hopefully it’ll be a learning experience.’’
Woodson also expects the flaky Smith to be ready for the season opener.
Meanwhile, Amar’e Stoudemire said he is unsure whether he will play any preseason games or scrimmage as he continues his rehab from a “very minor” knee procedure in July.
As reported by The Post, the Knicks shut down Stoudemire all summer to rest. He would not guarantee he will be ready for the Oct. 30 season opener. He expects to be on a 20-25 minute restriction once the regular season begins.

Maybe playa got a conspiracy how witches told JR to "party on dude" and reduce his value at years end.
JR partied his way from about a 50 mil contract I reckon.
But he is ours!
