Knicks · Report: Melo may leave Knicks for Lakers if Kobe promises championship (page 1)

Melonoma @ 10/2/2013 2:03 PM
A person familiar with Anthony’s thinking says that Kobe Bryant could be the X-factor in the Knicks’ negotiations with Carmelo. The Lakers will have cap space next summer and if Bryant promises Anthony that together they can make a run at a championship in Los Angeles, Dolan may be doomed.

Anthony owns a home in Southern California and his wife, La La, has spent a lot of time in Hollywood the last two years making movies.

When given the chance on Monday to clarify his future plans, Anthony took a pass, saying he’ll deal with his free agency “when the time comes.” That’s hardly a ringing endorsement.

Weird: "if Bryant promises Anthony that together they can make a run at a championship in Los Angeles"

I don't think if Melo walked on that squad today Kobe can fulfil that "Promise".

Basically Its Pau's expiring that creates the space.

Melo walks and forfiets the bird rights? If he didn't walk from Denver, why would he walk from Knicks?

worst thread ever.

I hate the media's 2 year long stories about what a player is going to do in a years time or two years time, just so they don't have to come up with new, current stories. BOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGG! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Honestly if he leaves us to play with 40 year old Kobe I say good riddance. Only an utter fool would choose LA in their current state, and we don't need anymore dunces on this team. However this article smells of BS big time.

Do we have a 2015 first rounder? :-(
Knixkik @ 10/3/2013 11:16 AM
If Kobe promises a championship? Sounds like something a 5th grader would write.
franco12 @ 10/3/2013 11:39 AM
if either Kobe or Melo actually want a championship, then they will both take less money wherever they go/stay.
Vmart @ 10/3/2013 12:10 PM
As far as I'm concerned Melo can go. Melo is a good player but he is no superstar. That title is reserved for the best of the best. Players like Jordan, Bird, Magic, LeBron, Hakeem, Kareem, Moses, Karl Malone, Duncan, Robinson, Pippen, Ewing, English, Barkley these are just some players who are so much better than Melo.

I wouldn't give him a Max deal especially at 31. I would take the cap space.

MaTT4281 @ 10/3/2013 1:21 PM
Melo, less than 3 weeks ago:

“I’m not going nowhere. That is one of the reasons why I wanted to come here to New York, just so I could take on those pressures and those challenges. A lot of people do not like to deal with the pressure. A lot of people do not know how to deal with the challenges they face. To me, it is everyday life.”

Am I really supposed to put more weight on the words of "a person familiar with Anthony’s thinking"?

No more Melodrama, no more Dwightmares, no more Decisions. Can the media just STFU until the end of the year with this crap?

I mean really, how can anyone promise a championship... rofl.. if Kobe could do that, I would leave for LA as well, as soon as I bet everything I own on the lakers to win.... I mean Jeezus....

Cosign. Melo splitting a max contract with another star or 2 is one thing. Maxing out Melo at 31 serves no purpose other than selling tickets

I really don't care what Melo makes as long as there is a specific plan for how to fit the right players around him within the cap. If his contract continues to limit flexibility that won't be good, but if they sign him and leave enough room to add a max free agents and some, i could care less what the specific value of the contract is as long as its not coming out of my paycheck.

oh no, but what if kobe makes that promise, guys!

that plan is foolish because it is impossible to build "around" a player who is so flawed and overrated. he needs to take less money in order to have a chance at getting the right players!

mills is a moron. just because melo sees himself as all that does not require you to agree with his conceit and self-delusion. but as we are seeing dolan, mills, and company seem to.
