no-- my expectations for this team are what they are. i think they are 43-47 wins. losing kidd and adding bargnani is a step back. it's about chemistry, defense, leadership. the knicks will lack adequate chemistry and their defense will suffer because felton needs another point guard to help him. that means lots of opponents in the lane and wearing out chandler or getting him in foul trouble.
that is the scenario that will lead to them falling back to a mediocre regular-season team and first round fodder.
they will need more than what woodson can offer in order to secure the 3rd seed, and if they fall to the sixth seed they will be a first round exit, once again.
U said the same things last year..The Knicks came in as the 2nd seed then U said u were disappointed because u expected them to reach the ECF...ESPN said the same thing last year with a much older crew...Shump out half the season, Amare out..etc..
i don't think so. i had hopes of their reaching the ecf, that's for sure. the first 8 games they looked like they were, no question. then sporadically from then on i saw only glimpses, so i got increasingly uncomfortable with what i saw. i said as much throughout the season: too much 3-point shooting, not enough defense, too much isolation at the expense of building a squad, not enough shot distribution.
all the 54 RS wins showed was that you can get a gaudy record in a bloated league with a diluted talent pool, but unless you have a team that excels at defending and guys who can distribute the ball and score efficiently you will be in trouble.
in other words, sure they got the 2nd seed but they ended up being revealed as something closer to a 6th seed given the way they performed in the playoffs.

There's a difference between informed projections on the one hand and reasonable fan expectations/requirements on the other. Shouldn't ECF be expected from a veteran team 4 years into its "big 3"? If we're being told that this is well planned out team and it has four max or near max veterans with 40 years experience, shouldn't the requirement be at least a conference finals appearance? If four years into the Melo-Amare pairing and three into the Melo-Amare-Chandler grouping, the team still can't make the conference finals, then wasn't this a failed plan? So DK7 and I will be upset because the team didn't achieve anything that was reasonably expected, not because we were surprised.
Absolutely not, MDA wanted a completely different direction of a PG controlled team...Melo as you primary go to guy is very different than the plan was 2.5 years ago...

What does he think the formula is fine and the problem was the specific computer the statistician used to calculate the formula? Like, if the guy buys a new computer, the Schoene system is gonna project 57 wins the for the Knicks!

The only time to bump this thread would have been at the end of the season. The Knicks may suck but you were not at all correct in how they suck. The somber crew all love to pick on Melo and Bargnani but they have been our only good players. You have nothing to rub in because you weren't actually accurate in your predictions. If this keeps up the Knicks will have to trade Melo to a team that believes he will be more than a rental by the trade deadline, not because Melo sucks, because by then we should be completely restructuring our roster, as it will be clear the other players all stink and we're going nowhere with the likes of Felton as our starting PG and JR Bricks as our SG.

Boston I was pretty vocal about being "Cooked" and they were.
This year rests on the tender shoulder of Melo and that Bargnani is reasonably healthy. Knicks get a situation where Melo's shoulder is problematic, Bargnani is symptomatic, and Amare is not contributing I think 37 wins might be about right.
Does the system call for that? What are other teams projected to do?
Usually "Systems" over the longer term proves more accurate so while last year was not spot on, they tend to return to mean.

I remember this thread. Bargs being signed, Tyson's and Stat's health and production, JR (enough said) and Felton's inconsistency. All these things on an older team didn't leave us much room for error. Figured it would catch up to us at some point in the season, but not this hard.
Melo been healtier than I thought but Bargnani and Stat have been problems.
I thought knicks would win about 49 games this year. I went along with the 37 win given two choices. The ESPN did have it right if 37 gets you a 7th seed. They saw a week East conference all the way.
