Knicks · ESPN says Melo ranked #15... (page 5)

you know it's not just , "oh well he puts up shots",

yea but you gotta have the balls to put those shots up,

it's not so simple it's not so simple

I'm not saying he's efficient but he puts pressure on the other team in a way that helps his team. However, you must have the rest of the team able to function at a decent level of efficiency. That's what we had for a good part of last year with the exception of the playoffs. Now they have to find a way to maintain the good team BB into the playoffs. There has to be a balance of the ISO ball and Team ball. We lost that balance in the playoffs last year.

Of course he does - Insert Melo into a lineup and it automatically stifles your offense, and the rest of the team has to stand around and watch him chuck 30 shots a game. Yeah I would agree he has impact and changes how the ones around him play. We never had any balance, but Iso=ball works ok in regular season. The differnce was always going to show up in the playoffs and that's exactly what happened.

Now it's time reset, rinse and repeat.

It's quite generous. He's a (volume) scoring specialist who struggles in all other phases of the game.

So, time for a genuine question:

Take last years Knick team, replace Melo with Paul George. Do we still win 54 games? Do we do any better in the playoffs? What about replacing Melo with Kevin love?

Duh. WE win the championship of course!

There are less than five players in the NBA who can put their teams on the backs and carry them for a sustained period of time..Melo is one if those guys..Melo carried the Knicks two consecutive Aprils..Today's stats guys are lost and treat the NBA like fantasy football..It's defensive winshares that is important..Paul George has 6.3..

Some get offended because Melo doenst get enough praise. well the best way to fix that is to at least get to the fianls or at least give the ehat a run for their money in the ECF

That'd be fair if he could actually get credit for it. A lot of what he's done here is downplayed or attributed to anyone but him.
he gets credit. Anybody knows that he is our biggest offensive weapon by a mile. Everybody knows that he is the biggest reason why we won 54 games. However if you wnat him to get the kind of credit lebron and kobe gets then he has to win

Papabear Says

Give him a Wade and a Bosh and Ray Allen and he will win and go to the finals. oh also a center who can score and defend.

Don't bother...Haters gonna hate ..

Um...I actually.I like Melo however i have accepted him for what he is. He is a top 3 scorer he has the ability to play pretty good defense but doesnt do it consistently, and he has had a tough playoff record. I mean being honest is not hating

Papabear Says

He is the best player we got.do you disagree? He can't do it by himself. Look at the team he is resounded by. He didn't ask for Amare to get hurt again and again.

Do not short change how talented professional basketball players actually are. Seriously, the average arm chair fan wouldn't be good enough to get off 5 decent looks at the rim let alone 50....

please explain the importance of "carrying a team" and "putting a team on ones back" and "going in to beast mode" especially as it pertains to winning in the playoffs. and who are the other five guys and what are their successes in the playoffs.

meanwhile, when i see a guy like paul george i see a great two-way player already and only in his 3rd year, someone who has improved in all aspects of the game each year, and someone who is a team player.

where do you get the notion that he is getting 50 decent looks or can you not tell the difference between a decent look and any old shot opportunity. are we in the west 4th cage here?

Absolutely. George fixes Tyson's neck, KMart's ankle, Novak's back, Cope's shoulder, JR's knee, Shump's rust, Amare's knee, Camby's plantar fascia tendon,he shares some of his youth with Kidd so that he can shoot at a rate higher then 12%, and he is a two way player not a fools gold guy. He also helps hold opponents to under 100 in 10 out of 12 playoff matchups guaranteed.

I could care less about winning 54 games, if we won 49 games, I would be ok with that.. and maybe we do better in the playoffs because we don't have to face paul george since he would be a knick..

Kevin love? why are we talking kevin love? but yea, I think we are better with him as well.. the key is, if we have either of those guys, I doubt we have to build a team with a bunch of AArp menbers and one dimensional scrubs placed on the team to placate a one dimensional chucker...I think you see a more balanced team.. like the one george is on now..

I don't think you could fill out the roster that differently with amare's contract still on the books. Is George's deal for 18 mil annually? Love is around 15 mil so there would be some savings there.

5 guys currently in the NBA who can carry a team..

LeBron
Kobe
Melo
CP3..See him put a scare into the Lakers in the playoffs a few years ago..
Harden..MOre need to be seen
Durant
Westbrook... against the Heat in the playoffs..more to be seen..
Tony Parker..maybe..
