Knicks · Amare Cleared, Hoping To Play Opening Night (page 1)

TeamBall @ 10/19/2013 2:08 PM
Amar'e Stoudemire has been cleared for contact in practice and said he hopes to play on opening night for the New York Knicks.

Mike Woodson also said the Knicks hope Stoudemire is available to play on Oct. 30, when New York hosts the Milwaukee Bucks to start the season.

Stoudemire underwent a knee procedure in July.

Stoudemire missed a large part of last season due to lingering knee issues.

In other news, Kmart is still rehabbing an ankle injury and may not play opening night either.

gunsnewing @ 10/19/2013 2:10 PM
Kmart is this year's Rasheed. Only now it's "sore ankle" not "sore foot"
TeamBall @ 10/19/2013 2:12 PM
Kmarts definitely going to need to be monitored carefully. We need him healthy.

I think they are saving him for the spring. I honestly don't think the post micro fracture surgery guys can hold up for long. Kenyon had both of his knees done.
gunsnewing @ 10/19/2013 2:24 PM
Yea his minutes should be very limited to not playing at all until after the Allstar break. Maybe Amare can give us a half season and then pass the torch over to Kmart. Hopefully diogu is effectivecforcwhen those guys can't play

The championship is ours! I expect Amar'e to play 36 minutes per game, all 82 games and average 25 pts and 14 rebounds 4 blocks.

Does anyone know what kind of ankle injury still needs rehabbing 4 or 5 months later? I remember Bogut needed microfracture surgery on his (didn't know such a thing existed until he had it done!), so I wonder if that's the kind of chronic thing Kmart has. Also factor in how reluctant we were to re-sign him, and it seems increasingly like some sort of chronic issue.

If it wasn't so sad this would be funny...

Actually isn't already a victory for KMart to have played such a long career. The same goes for Kidd. Considering how long ago STAT had his Micro Fracture he did very well also. We just tend not to have a realistic expectation when it comes to these guys. STAT was actually on our playoff teams in his 1st and 2nd yr and it wasn't his Knees that held him back. Only last year was directly an issue with his knee. His chances aren't great that he can stay healthy an entire season, but i'd love to see the guy be healthy for the playoffs this year. Woody is gonna have to have a good plan of rest for him to be able to make it.

Clean @ 10/19/2013 3:12 PM
I don't think this has anything to do with saving him for playoffs. It was obvious KMart was never the same after that Ankle injury at the end of the year. I don't remember him having another standout performance after that. We all know how good he was before the injury.

I had a high ankle sprain playing bball when I was 30. Took 3-4 months on crutches and then a cane for another one. Doctor said that sometimes an ankle sprain is worse than a break.

OH if Amare can give us 25 min a game for the whole season and play offs I will say just pay him for his last season with a smile.

your not going to get much out of amare at 15 minutes, it has to me 22 to 25 mins for him to really have an impact..

Gustav, quick question about rotator cuff surgery. I need it on both arms and I was told I couldn't do push ups, bench press etc. after I had the surgery. Was yours successful? I still have shoulder pain at times but can do everything except the exercises they told me I wouldn't be able to do post surgery.

I hope to see Amare play the whole season but if he go down again he should retire. Then his money comes off the books. We could then give him a job like a consultant and pay him 3 million a year to sit a home for the next 8 years giving us advise.

Woody's been talking about 10 or 15 minutes now for a while. No idea what the heck he can do in that time, but Amar'e said his goal is to become the most efficient player in the league.

Ouch- never new recoveries could be that long and arduous. Actually now you mention it, I remember David Lee had something similar years ago, and we all thought he'd be back in a week or two, but he ended up being out for the season. Still it seems odd that the Knicks are so secretive they won't even disclose a high ankle sprain.

Is it true what George said on Seinfeld, that with crutches everyone thinks there's a funny story behind it, but with a cane it's a tragedy?

he can do a lot i think in 15 minutes,

that's more than a quarter of ball,

just taking a glance at his stats last year, he had to be one of the most efficient players in the league,
