Knicks · It is our new GM's duty to put Melo on the trade block (page 1)

Rookie @ 10/22/2013 1:56 PM
As much as I want Melo to stay, he is the one who said he is going to opt out and go through the F.A. process. In light of Melo's statements, it is our duty to check in with every team to see what we can get for Melo in return. Nothing personal, just part of the process. We would be stupid not to.

While we can offer more money then other teams, there are no guarantees he doesn't walk for nothing. Considering we gave up half our team and 1st rd. picks to get him to N.Y., I would be extremely down on this organization if we let him walk away and get nothing back in return.

Nalod @ 10/22/2013 4:37 PM
Im afraid he pulls a Dwight and goes for less money without a trade.
With a trade he'll have to agree to an extention. With a trade he goes to a team who will have some depth depleated.
Sound familiar?

OP, the process is clearly written in the cba.

For Melo to get his max years/dollars he has to opt out.

And like Nalod said...no team is taking on a non-extended Melo, and he isnt ext5ending just anwhere, so kill the trade idea....it aint happening.

We just went through this.

toad @ 10/22/2013 4:42 PM
You seem to think Melo and the FO are operating separately. The whole point of Melo opting out is for the Knicks to have the pleasure of paying him more money.
arkrud @ 10/22/2013 4:54 PM
We have to JeremyLin him!!!
This will be fair.
Nalod @ 10/22/2013 5:05 PM
Funny we talk all the time about the Lakers but thats not the only team in LA.

Funny we talked about him and Chris Paul playing in NY, but Chris is in LA.

Funny how Lakes have MDA and I can't see Kobe giving him the keys, or Melo running out MDA twice. They got a pretty good coach in LA, and he a clipper!

Lakes won't trade as they don't have the chips to make one, but Clips do. Im not a Blake Griffin fan, but he is an asset.

Melo and Tyson for Griffin, Jordan and a sweetner?

Im not feeling we got a championship team either way.

You would think there is a trade out there if we checked around. For one example, I would think Cuban still wants a player to pair with Nowitzki even if it is just for one year. He was very willing to take the gamble on Howard. I don't think the Mavs have anything we want, but the T Wolves might be ripe. They are stuck outside the playoff picture in the West and they aren't getting any better. I don't want to spin a bunch of hypotheticals, but I do believe our new GM should be checking around.

CrushAlot @ 10/22/2013 6:19 PM
I think his job is to make trades to get help for Melo. Not sure why the Grunwald move happened but bringing in a guy from the era when players came and went at a high rate annually appears on the surface like the owner might like some player movement. There has never been any indication that Dolan isn't locked into Melo. Maybe something in his body language when he was playing softball with Melo in Puerto Rico this past summer?
gunsnewing @ 10/22/2013 6:32 PM
Hopefully Melo pissing off Dolan enough by continually bringing up how he is going to test the waters and Dolan demands we trade him
Bonn1997 @ 10/22/2013 8:04 PM
You have to sell high. When he was getting player of the month awards was the perfect time to trade him but now would still be worthwhile.

this knucklehead had the help he needed here in new york just by waiting for free agency. and now he is demanding help. sickening

He was being traded because Ujiri wasn't going to let him walk for nothing. He wanted a new deal under the old cba because the owners were telling the players they were locking them out and reigning in free agency. Walsh wanted a second star and didn't want him going to NJ. Melo was being moved at the deadline. If the Knicks didn't trade for him he was going somewhere else. Ignoring the economic climate at the time, who the parties were involved in the deal and saying Melo could have waited and became a knick is just wrong. No way Ujiri doesn't move Melo at the deadline. Its sickening that you keep bringing this up and leaving out all of the reasons why it couldn't happen the way you wanted it to. It would be nice though. Unfortunately in the real world superstars don't wait for new cba's and lockouts so that free agency can be reigned by the owners so that they can make considerably less money to sign with another team. Gms don't wait to let their superstars walk and get nothing for them. Remember that had just happened in July of that year to the Raptors and the Heat. You can't tell me that Ujiri lets Melo walk for nothing. It would have been great if the Nuggets management said our fate is to get nothing for our superstar but that wasn't going to happen.

The only way Melo leaves the Knicks is that they stink up the place this year. Bargani have not showed anything yet. and we have a lot of injuries.

EnySpree @ 10/22/2013 10:02 PM
Reggie Miller just said be careful what you wish for. ... definately a possible scenerio to show him but why?

What would we want back for Melo? Who?

Melo could have played it a bit smarter by basically saying the Knicks were his preferred option. As a player of his age he should know that gutting the team he gets traded to is not smart, if the goal is to win a championship. All he did was basically say, I want max money and however the chips fall, no problem.

Compare this to what Lebron did and you can see that Lebron outclasses Melo on multiple levels, not just playing.

yellowboy90 @ 10/22/2013 11:12 PM
Melo overestimated STAT's health and thought that the other pieces were obtainable.

Did you actually just say that Lebron's "Decision" was a model of athlete maturity and wisdom? Holy guacamole

So if he says he would 'prefer' to play some place else or even says where you think the nuggets and Ujiri don't move him at the deadline? After what just happened to the raptors and the cavs the previous summer I don't think there is anyway that Ujiri doesn't move him at the deadline. Also the way the owners were talking about changing free agency had to be scary for players at the time.

In other words, they will only sell low
