Agreed. I actually think Melo should be going out of his was to defer to Bargs early. That's what I'd be doing -- I'd be telling myself it's important to establish this guy in order for him to help me. And if that's not Melo's call (if the majority of the plays are coming from the bench) then that's gotta be up to Woody. The last shot should've went to AB last night. Give him a chance to tie or win that game. Do everything possible to get this guy comfortable as quick as possible. Still a little disappointed about his rebounding but yeah, he definitely looked a little more lively on the defensive end. He even switched out on Kemba Walker a couple of times and stopped him at least twice. Encouraging....Play hard big fella and good things will happen...That's rule #1 in NY -- GO HARD!!!
That's what it look like Melo has been doing the whole pre-season expect for the B'more game. He called out several plays to get Bargs the ball.

Bargs is not in NBA shape yet...He was grabbing his shorts in the middle of the first quarter...He needs to just continue to catch and shoot..Make a quick decisions or move the ball...He has been away a while, give him some time to get his legs under him...

If he shooting 90% from the Ft line, why not post him up more, he does have decent foot work and quickness.

Of course, and thanks for the correction above with the 2fg%, It would be 44%. His post D and man D looks legit. I think his D overrall has looked good or better than I thought it would. However, he should never be at the 5.
For Bargs to work I think a TS% above 54 is key.

Given the rebounding, assist, and turnover issues, I'd say closer to .600. He's had seasons closer to .560 and few would say he was a good player then.
yeah bonn 51%TS is terrible for a guy who shoots threes and tries to get to the line. he has shown in his career that he capable of around 57%TS which is not too bad-- but i have found that 58%TS is where the elite scorers usually reside at least a few seasons of their career. pierce has done that 6 times. melo not even once. bargnani hasn't even cracked 56%TS once in his career.
as i have been saying... this just does not bode well for the knicks. and it appears many of the natives are getting restless... as the clock ticking on the melo era is winding down.
I'm gonna give Bargs the benefit of the doubt, he is recovering from Pneumonia, in a sport that requires high endurance any type of chest infection can linger for a while. I'm giving him 10 games into the season to get his wind back. He looks timid out there right now.
I don't know if he will get better. I don't know if he will brick shots for the rest of the season. The one shot he has hit consistently is the free throw line area shot. I would normally say to have him stick with those shots, but the problem with that is the spacing on the court will suffer. Him hovering at the at the FT line and chandler doing what he does means the paint will be clogged. Until his shot improves I think he hurts the team to be playing with the starting unit. I would rather have metta start. He brings more D and better open shooting. Him and Shump can turn up the D when they need to. Let bargs beat up on some 2nd unit guys to build confidence.
the issue is going to be woodson b/c i almost guarantee he is going to scream at bargs like he did with novak at some point this year. you guys are right, he needs to fix it quick or else it could get ugly.
my prediction - he has a very good first game and all of you will be pumped. then he will fall back into a pattern of 3 bad games, 1 good game.
there is alot more pressure on you guys this year. on melo and on woodson. there are too many things that could make this a very difficult year. you can all see it, it's going to come back to melo ball trying to score 30+ for the knicks to have a chance to win when it counts. melo is an iverson type of guy. just let him chuck and try to surround him with nothing but complimentary players. bargs...is not a complimentary player for him. neither is jr or amare.

I watch a ton of ball but I don't watch the raptors other then when they play the Knicks or Nets. Bargs also hasn't played much for a couple of years. I think give him time to get back in shape and see what he does.
