let me ask you this.. durant won 3 of the last 4 scoring titles... and honestly pretty much tied last year for the lead....
do you still consider carmelo the best scorer in the league?
No, but I never said he was...I'd say he's top 3 and I know you don't agree with that.
well you have kobe, lebron, durant... so no, I don't agree... again, objectively look at this...
I am looking at it objectively, and he's better than Kobe at this point in their careers. I said top 3 because I agree Durant and Lebron are better.
I think you have the word "objective" confused with "tkf's viewpoint". I promise the two are not the same thing. My opinion that Melo was better than Kobe last year can be backed up by facts, but I accept it's still an opinion. You seem to think everything you say is a fact.
Dolan is the guy nobody wants to play for around the league.
chuck is a dumbass he should stfu
boston has no problem tanking for a #1 pick and a reset,
and we do! why can't we just tank a year of good drafts?

+1 Excellent post!!!! Scoring titles get you a bigger payday, not championships which I believe Melo is ok with.

We had yrs to do that under Layden, Isiah and Walsh but we are so inept we can't even lose properly

you think melo would have a title if he were playing with a healthy Amare and cp3..Like I said before LBJ is good, but take a look at who he's playing with. maybe people forget that he is playing with 2 other all stars.
I like melo and obviously think he should avg more assist, but don't say he plays hero ball all the time and then see JR bricking shot after shot, or say felton is shooting too much, or tyson needs a more of an offensive game, or melo needs a 2nd scorer, or we have no pg that gets in the paint on a regular.

so what criteria are you using.. for me, I am using more than just a year, the same way I do with MVP voting.. if you are consistently top 5 players in scoring every year, i consider you to be one of the best scorers..
But lets keep it real.. lets start back in 2005, kobe has never finished out side of the top 5 scorers. carmelo has.. 3 times! kobe also won two scoring titles, finished second twice, and even last year finished a close 3rd and had he not gotten hurt, who knows...
Those are the numbers.. Kobe is still a better scorer bro...

he played with a healthy amare, and they didn't look good at all..
And please lets stop adding guys that will never be here..
I believe andre iguodala would have a good chance of winning a title with a healthy amare and CP3, the same with Danny Granger, and a host of other allstars..
Does that mean we should pay those guys 20+ mil and make them the face of the franchise.. when you have to start adding olympic teams to make a player look good, that should tell you something right away...
Can carmelo ever stand on his own merits?

didn't you know, we are NY baby, we are supposed to win!!!!
And I am not even saying tank, but just build the right way.. do that every year, go about your business in a professional, methodical way and you will yield good results at some point.. winning is a process, one in which the knicks refuse to adhere to, instead we thumb our nose up at it, grab on to the latest piece of fools gold, and laugh at the league as if we are onto something they are not..

I don't complain about Felton or JR taking shots if their open. If you got the shot, take it. Now if your ice cold like JR was in the playoffs, you might wanna peal back a little. My issue is, Melo will be triple covered and won't pass it to te open man, let alone play ball movement basketball. That's not his style. It's good for regular season games against subpar teams, may be good enough to get you an Atlantic Division title, but once you go 7 games with the big dogs, it gets shut down, REAL QUICK! I've seen enough to know if he doesn't change his way of playing and get more players involved, once we run into the likes of the Nets, Pacers, Bulls, or Heat, we going home early again this year. Wash, rinse, repeat!

classic example.. wade and lebron combine for 30 points last night, yet the heat scored well over 100 points..
I bet if you ask each knicks fan to a man, do they think norris cole, shane battier, chris bosh, haslem, chalmers, are better than the knick cast, they would argue up and down that they are not..
so it gets back to my point and maybe yours.... share the ball, move the ball, play defense... As a player your goal should be to play for the best possible scoring situation on offense and sometimes that may not include you shooting the ball.. carmelo doesn't get it... the heat manage to score with the cast they have outside of lebron and wade, are knicks fans saying we can't do the same?
Barkley is like the rest of us, We all have aszholes and we all have opinions. Melo is a pure scorer and thats what he does best. Ask him to be a more rounded player and his ppg will likley drop.
The reason he is critisized is now that Lebron got some bling, Melo in NYC is the posterchild for the hyped star who has not been to the finals. Its in part his "fault" for forcing his way to NYC and for being a high profile personality. The pedestal he sits on is one we built and put him on.
The guy lived in Brooklyn until he was 3 years old and we vaulted him to "coming home" status as if the annointed one came back the conquered hero and was to now lead us to the promised land. That is a tall order to fill.
He is not Lebron. Lets get over that. Lebron is a facilitator, melo is a finisher.
they would pair nicely.

I obviously meant that Carmelo was a better scorer last year than Kobe, I thought that was clear. Are you so daft that that you refuse to see that things like top scorer in the league change over time, each year you have different results, and LAST YEAR, the most RECENT YEAR, I believe Melo was better than Kobe. the problem is simple: people who love melo's game dismiss the idea of being able to make others better, just as they look at regular-season records and first round appearances as validation.
lots a folks are going to see the light this season... clock is ticking.
Our PGs are so lame we need to play two at a time. Our #2 scorer makes Jamal Crawford look selective and shot like 30% in the playoffs. I actually find that shocking because I dont actually remember JR hitting *ANY* shots. Our center has no offensive game whatsoever and when he tries to hit that 12 foot open jumper Im actually embarassed for him.
But yea.. despite leading his team to most wins in a decade, advancing for the first time in a decade, winning a scoring title, all star, 3rd in MVP voting equalling Kobe+CP3s (not the same as finishing 13th say) Melo is regarded as not being able to stand on his own merits.
I look at the Knick roster last year and its terrible. One might say we had depth, others might realize we desperately needed bigtime stretches from guys like Kidd, KMart etc to continue winning because its a pretty bad team after Melo.
I hope like hell Artest stays healthy... he could really be a huge pickup for us
gunsnewing wrote:Yea after the Knicks fail again this year everyone is going to agree that Melo alone can't get it down. Then we will offer Melo the max and fans and media will thrash Dolan. They will be locked into another decade of mediocrity or worse
Maybe he takes a step back, gets hurt, quits on Woody.. anything is possible, but one thing is Melo is a max player. Look at the crappy roster last year and we win 54 games and the voters who COUNT said Melo was the #3 player in the league.
the problem is we need a real GM who can scout and players like other teams do. The only talent pool we have to draw on is CAA

If you have a problem with that...I couldn't care less. You're using a third place finish to defend Kobe when Melo finished #1, just cut it out. Did I say Melo is the better scorer throughout their careers? I said at this point in time, reading comprehension "bro".
let me ask you. are you so daft that you fail to realize that when someone says, X player is a better scorer than Y player that you just don't take into account one year? why would I just assume you are talking LAST YEAR, when every year, the same myth is thrown out there about carmelo being the BEST scorer in the league? which rock were you hiding under when all of this talk was taking place...

rofl, talk about being daft? NO I am not using a third place finish, which is why I posted what I did regarding scoring finishes since 2005..

so you obviously acknowledged the criteria I was using, and the question is very odd since I never accused you of doing so.. The discussion wasn't about who was better last year, and you know it.. now you are trying to shift gears to defend your point of view which was not in question here.. is this too much to keep up with?
