Not good until 15/16.

These are next year's Free Agents: http://www.hoopsworld.com/2014-nba-free-...

Two names jump out:

I would assume that black book involves Kobe Bryant, who would be a FA next year, has spoken highly of Melo and has made enough to take a pay cut. This assumes that he recovers well and can be effective.

Tony Parker (but only if both Melo, Parker and Amare each opt out of their contracts and take less money -- even then I assume this could not happen unless Duncan retired).

Wow, this thread is proof that no matter what he does/says, Melo is just going to be hated. It is a joke these fans claim to root for the Knicks.

Seriously. Dude wants to recruit players to play for our franchise and he gets bashed for it. SMH...

Yeah, soon to further degrade back into the "players only want to play with those with lots of patches on their warmups..."
The Melohate in here is always refreshingly palpable.
Dude can't win.

He did not tell us about his BBB (big black book) until Barkley called him out on it.

Did someone explain to Melo if he takes half are a cap space with a Super Max deal we wont have any money left after we sign 1 other max player. Melo and Aldrige "Example only" will basically take up 48 million of the 58 million cap. throw in Shumpert , Felton who are on the books that leaves us with 4 players on the roster while being maxed out. The Knicks can build a contender but it starts with Melo making a sacrifice which he isnt going to do

Yeah, i think they work out a deal that gives Melo a little more than he is making now, but still have room for another max guy.

gunsnewing @ 11/1/2013 2:37 PM
I can live with just one other max guy. Not everyone is Miami and can sign 3

That's all we need. Just give us Irving (least realistic), Love, Aldridge, M Gasol, or Rondo and continue to develop Shumpert and TH jr. I would really like to see what that type of team can do with just one other all-star and developed role players.

From your lips to god's ears man

Yep. Can't forget about the development of Shump and THJ

Very weary of Love and Aldridge tho

Just because those are the free agents doesn't mean we go after them. We can still do a sign and trade Hopefully for Kyrie

Or Bron

Right not all of them are fits, i was just referring to them as being available and possibilities. I think Love is a good fit, Aldridge maybe not.

Papabear Says

Don't worry they are not the kind of Knick fans that will be posting when we start to break out. They post when they are so happy that we lost. Thats why it's hard to get stars to come to New York Knicks. When you go to the games the fans love Melo. MVP MVP MVP

Why don't you be realistic? Bron and Kyrie is not coming to New York.

Syniko @ 11/2/2013 1:07 PM
What Melo meant to say was, he's got a plenty of names on his Rolodex but even that term is a bit old. Everyone's got a smart phone of some kind where they can store all their contact information. Get with the time, Melo. You only use Black Book to store babes names in there.

Question for anyone who is good with cap scenarios...this is just hypothetical:

Is our own Big 3 of, say, Melo, Love, and Rondo possible, assuming Melo takes less than the supermax (maybe around the normal max), Love takes the max (non-sign and trade), and Rondo takes a few million less than max money? This is also assuming Felton and Smith opt out, and Shumpert possibly isn't resigned, leaving us with only THjr and other rookie contracts?

gunsnewing @ 11/4/2013 4:42 PM
I think we can afford 1 but Melo needs to take less.

There's only 1 Lebron so instead of having 3 and a bunch of bums I rather have 2 and bring back guys like Shump, THJ, Murray and Tyler

This is the million $ question. And it all depends on how you define Max. He can't take $20. or even $17M.

Cap will be around $58-62M.

3 * $15M = $45, and then you only have ~$15 to play with. JR is at $6M. Shump will be in that same range. You can possibly trade one of those guys. Felton has an option at $4M.

Then who plays C? And at how much? Roster holds are 800K I think and THJr is gonna be at $1.4 or something.

It's all math.

wary of love because he is injury-prone? he looked like a first or second team all-nba player to me last night.
