Knicks · Knicks get no respect! (page 1)

I am watching so called experts pile on this team.

They say everyone else got better and the Knicks pretty much stayed the same.
I disagree strongly, we got rid of Kidd, Camby, Sheed, Thomas, Novak
based on their performance down the stretch; the Knicks core will be far more stable and better!

This was a team that won 54 games last year with no big man stability and an aging and injured rotation.

In the playoffs, they put up a fight at advancing past an imposing Pacers squad in the 2nd round despite their top scorer playing with a torn shoulder, their 2nd scorer playing with messed up knee, their usually agile center playing stiff coming off back trouble and a loss of body mass.

This team is built to compete and battle; if healthy, they are sure to cause teams fits.

Bargnani is a wild card; he could grow into an offensive force playing off of Mello.
Once he gets his legs and confidence back under him; you cannot leave him open or give him a free lane while cheating on Mello.

AND I cannot see a better match for Metta World Peace than this Knicks team. He plays with grit and toughness that this team sorely missed. He can hit the open 3 to spread opposing defences and he can guard the biggest forward.

Add to that a full season of a maturing Shumpert; this team will cultivate a defensive edge.

This Knicks team is going to surprise a lot folks!

metta gives us a new dimension,

he's so filthy, everyone is sleeping on mwp's impact

Respect must be earned, not given.

Last year the team overachieved, and thats a good thing BTW!

This year the team on paper is better, but Nets, Bulls and Indy got a bit better. Miami is about the same. But they the Champs.

Then there is the playoffs.

My take is one of Miami, Bulls, nets or Indy will not live up to the preseason "Hype", but look out below because another team can rise.

Many of the variables have to add up like they did last year for us.

smackeddog @ 10/30/2013 11:34 AM
I'd rather people under estimated us and we did better than they predicted, than the other way around.
anrst @ 10/30/2013 11:44 AM
On a BS Report i heard today, Simmons says we have no one that plays defense. lmao.

Can you defend our defense?

Team defense poor, Knicks have some players who are outstanding individual defenders.

Even Bargs can play okay man to man defense, but you're right about the team defense- not there yet.

Team defence improves with healthy roster continuity.
Significant minutes from go for Prigs, Shump, Metta will have a major impact on freeing up Chandler to get more aggressive.

1) I thought the 54 wins was toward the high end of the probability spectrum for us last year. That said, our actual win/loss vs our projected win/loss was only +1. But to use that as the benchmark for how this team should perform is probably more optimistic than realistic. I think the volatility of this team (in terms of whether they are playing well or poorly) is among the greatest disparities in the league. When our inconsistent shooters are on they may be the best there is. When they are off, they are awful.

2) The focus on the Knick's defense is actually overly critical in comparison to the things that the Knicks did right last year. On its face, only 6 teams gave up less points per game than us. 23 other teams gave up more points per game. D'antoni would say the team that gives up the least points in any game has the best defense... but if you get into advanced stats, our Basketball-Reference has us as the 18th best defense and the 3rd best offense. http://www.basketball-reference.com/team.... The negative view of the defense might be the addition of Bargs. But if you consider him the Novak replacement, we are a bit improved defensively.

3) The major difficulty I see in defending our defense is (1) the inability of our PGs to stay in front of their men and (2) the defensive mismatch when Melo plays PF. With a more traditional lineup that includes ShumpShump at the 2 the first issue should be countered a bit. The second is lessened by the insertion of MetroWhirledPeas as SF on offense and PF on defense. In short, I think our starting lineup is improved defensively. I don't see Prigs as great defender so much a big risk taker. This is solely based on my games watched, but I see him reaching and poking a lot more than simply staying in front of his man and protecting passing lanes. The team as a whole performed well when he was in the starting lineup, so I can't argue too much.

If other NBA teams will respect us too much we are in trouble.
I do not believe they do... we have some work to do to get them to respect us.

Why bbal analysts/beat writers/executives do not respect us and will never do?
Dolan, Isiah, Mills, Smith family, Melo, big money to replace hard work and defeat common sense, GULAG at MSG for press and fck...you to hard core Knicks fans.
Is it enough to understand?

We just gave up a 25 pt lead to milawaukee's walking dead. What defense?

And there it is, the obligatory isolated example. Based on this reasoning, I guess Miami sucks this seasaon because they lost to Phily.

bros and hoes, honestly:

it's not a good look when you're getting booed on opening night at home, win or not

Isn't this what you are hoping for when in the other thread you said you are "excited" that the Knicks will crash and burn this year?

And that walking dead just scored 150 points too, did you see that? Oh no wait, they didn't.
And we closed them out at the end of the game, but that don't count.

And the first half of games never counts. Just like the regular season doesn't count. Unless we lose. Then it counts.

I love the UK logic.

No respect earned, none will be given. Tyson has the heart of a lion but fragile.

DPOTY was his upside, take a step back and look at his career. He has been fragile most of it.

Bargnani ws not in shape. Last two years have not been kind to him.

Amare is eating cap like Eddy ate burgers.

And KNicks are to be resepcted?

Don't confuse HOPE which fans have with reality.

Between NBATV, TBS, ESPN and ABC knicks are on 33 times.
