Depends on how you read the stats lol The link posted earlier in this thread by 82games ranking clutch shots last season says otherwise. From what I've seen, Melo has made plenty of clutch shots for the Knicks and Nuggets. Maybe his blood has turned to Kool Aid and he's lost it? I don't know, but it's hard to make that call after the second game of the season.

I'm not making the call after the 2nd game of the season. I am making the call after almost 3 years of the same stuff.

I don't believe you would have created this thread had he hit that shot last night, so i think in that regard you are making this call after 1 missed shot at the buzzer.

If he made that shot last night we would have beaten the Bulls. And I would have been surprised he made it. I expected Rose to come through last night. I expected Melo to miss. That is my point.

tj23 @ 11/1/2013 4:43 PM
Regarding LBJ and Melo, Melo wouldn't have to dominate the ball. There are a lot of guys that would make Melo's life easier and we would probably see his efficiency improve. I've seen Melo play spot up shooter in the ASG while LBJ does all the ball handling.

And two seasons ago Rose missed the FTs and Melo sunk game winning shot. It happens. Do you think Rose hits the game winning shot every game?

They don't want to know that. I think that Melo is also trying to save his body. You see how they are all over him. If Melo is not a great scorer then why is he triple teamed and double teamed?

Melo has hit plenty of big shots since coming here..Melo is now trying to let the other players get comfortable..I don't think Melo is the kind of player who can just turn it on..He has to be in rhythm...He has to shoot more than 15/16 shots per game...

He has. Its not like he hasn't. My thing is I still don't trust him to make them in NY.

I think we can let Melo live a little bit.

What do you want from him? Huh? He is what he is. Is it fair to demand he change into something he just isn't meant to be?

Is he giving himself the fat contracts and the cool shoes?

He's probably a better natural scorer than LeBron. His shot is purer. His nose for the hoop is as keen as a marmot's for the fish in the creeks.

Think about this and remember it:

With Melo on Knicks we are just one piece away from dominating the NBA and winning multiple chips. That's what Dolan sees and we don't: we're one piece away. When that piece gets here many of our friends on this board will be eating the crows.

that is a reach.. really it is, because who would that piece be? does he even exist? I mean who is dominating the nba now anyway? I think it is comments like those that draw such backlash from people who tend to see things a bit more realistically.

You are right, carmelo is what he is, and that is what you see.. Maybe the problem is he sees himself as something different, and until that changes, maybe he will be always stuck as the player who has no help and needs this super great player to help him win....

LeBron is that piece.

LeBron in New York makes everything we're going through worthwhile.

you do realize that you can remove carmelo, bring in lebron and add Pf that rebounds and score and be in much better position.. In other words since you are on this lebron dream, and that isn't going to happen, we should be looking to add lebron and someone like Aldridge. No more playing people out of position , a more balanced team and you fill a need..

I mean lets be real, lebron and any decent player makes a good team, and that player doesn't have to be a max player.... heck bring bosh on over with lebron, he seems to have found a nice role doing what he does now and he is pretty darn good at it.. and I am pretty sure his next deal will not be a max one..

Papabear Says

Well LeBron had 7 years to do it in Cleveland and he didn't do it. TKF your criticizing of Melo is recognized by this forum. We do not take you serious you hate Melo from the top of his head to the bottom of his feet and that will never change so why talk about him? Do you really think we agree with your phony Sean Hanity comments talking points. Give it up man. You will probably be on my next ignore list. If all you can talk about is how bad you think Melo is then you got to go.

Vmart @ 11/1/2013 5:34 PM
I think people are making to much of the last shot. I hope people realize that Melo is a good player but our expectations for him are to high. Melo is a third or second option player we shouldn't treat him or hold him to the highest standard.

It's not fair to Melo, to be treated like a superstar that right is reserved for a few in the game today. Calling Melo a star takes the luster off the others that worked so hard to get that label. From now on I am just going to watch the game without expectations. It is what it is Melo is a good player.

Clean @ 11/1/2013 5:51 PM
I am not sure if this has been said in this thread yet but Marc Berman just said that reporters asked a question to both coaches and got drastically different reactions.

The question was 'were there other options available during the final play'.

Thibs answered "There were three options on the play."

Woody got angry and said "everybody's seen Melo make that kind of shot plenty" before he ended the interview early.

This right here is the main problem with the ISO melo and lack of creativity at the end of games.

I believe that question was asked specifically to irk Woodson…you can watch both final plays and see the difference. Rose had at least two people to pass too (Noah was wide open after the *moving* pick and roll).

I hope next time Woodson draws an actual play, if for not nothing, to give Melo a better look and give him another option in case the play falls apart.

I trust Rose more with the ball and 5 seconds left down 1. And just so you don't think it is because of last night, I trust Kobe, Durant, Pierce, Wade, Kyrie

Don't misunderstand I am not saying he isn't a good player, just that he isn't the same player from Denver and for whatever reason every "clutch" shot of his is a contested jumpshot from 18-20 feet out.

He had his best season ever last year...

gunsnewing @ 11/1/2013 8:08 PM
I think the year he had in Denver with Iverson and billups where he shot 48% was by far his best. He had similar years to last year in Denver.

I always shake my head when the clueless media refer to last year being Melos career year

gunsnewing @ 11/1/2013 8:16 PM
And Melo made it to the WCF that year

I think it's just an easy narrative for writers to refer to when on deadline. Kinda like the "Melo and STAT can't coexist on offense" crap we heard the past two years, even tho the stats showed otherwise.

gunsnewing @ 11/1/2013 8:21 PM
Yea I guess you can't expect Knicks fans to refer to that year because most of us were not paying all that much attention to Deneber then

Scoring wise. He took double the threes. And for eference he put up comparable stats twice in Denver.

28.9 pts, 6.0 rebs, 3.8 ast in 2006-07 Fg% .476

28.2 pts, 6.6 rebs, 3.2 ast in 2009-10 Fg% .449

28.7 pts, 6.7 rebs, 2.6 ast in 2012-13 Fg% .449

Main difference? He took 6 threes per game last year, most of his career and pretty much double of any season in Denver and made only 2.3.

I agree. And watch how the press will never leave alone the question of is Melo staying in New York? They won't let it go. They have to have something to write about.
