Knicks could do worse with a true point guard on their roster for the next 2 years before 2015 free agency.
Felton/Prigioni/Beno aren't getting it done with all these turnovers.
As long as it doesn't involve Shumpert or draft picks, why not?
I doubt it gets done without Shumpert because I don't see Chandler getting shipped the way he is playing now and I doubt they move Melo.
Don't know who else they would take.

Nash is done, he's been terrible for the Lakers. We need a speedy young two-way player as our point, not a dinosaur who's never played defense in his life. Nash would only hold us back, he'd reduce turnovers but we'd be giving up so many easy buckets it wouldn't matter. NO MORE OVER THE HILL PLAYERS!

I hear what you guys are saying, but what point guards are out there? It's clear Woodson doesn't have an inkling of how to coach offense.
This is a 2 year rental, at least if we're going to play ISO ball, have someone that can hit shots from the PG position.
The question you should ask is why is he being traded from a team coached by Dantoni. The reason is because he is almost in Amare zone. He had to take the second game off since he was in pain after the first game. I am sorry but we do not need anymore geriatrics on the roster. If we are going to make a trade it should be for a PG that drives to the rim constantly. Someone like maybe Lin, LOL. I saw a stat on NBA TV that he was top 2 in drives to the hoop and scores from drives to the hoop. Since he left we have constantly been a jump shooting team.

All the good point guards are locked up, that's the problem. It's not that I don't want nash because I have a specific point guard in mind that I think we could easily acquire, it's that I don't want to give assets for an old washed-up guy that's only going to get hurt a few games in. Clean raises an excellent point that D'antoni of all people would be hesitant to trade Nash unless there is some deep underlying concern about his health.
Agree, that his health is the clear sticking point.
If this was the Nash of 2 or 3 years ago, this would be a no brainer. Alas, only hope in a decent PG is 2015 free agency, or possibly the draft.
i agree... the nash ship has sailed. if the knicks refuse to trade anthony while his value is high, then the only thing we can hope for is that anthony will take a significant paycut stay in new york, and then bring in a coach who can force him to learn to play the team game and use real discipline. maybe we can groom shumpert into a legit playmaking wing player who can defend. if not then maybe you have to think about trading shumpert... so long as melo is willing to take a paycut.

Reading you talk about melo taking a paycut has me thinking. There is NO way I would ever pay melo the max contract that is coming up. Melo is too flawed a player to pay him 30mil a year with yearly increases.

I think its time to shop Melo too. I wouldn't resign him once he opts out no way I give a max deal to a player that isn't max material and at 30, been fooled to many time with these guys.

well look nash can certainly keep the ball moving, act as the glue and the steadying hand just as kidd had done, plus you get one of the great jumpshooters in history out there as a constant threat... if IF if there were other players on the team who could find him when he is open.
but having him play alongside felton is just a non-starter for me. two-point guards does not work for this team no matter how you slice it.
what you want is shumpert and anthony slashing and finding nash, who is automatic from all ranges. chandler would benefit most from nash out there for obvious reasons. old dudes who are pick and roll artists can last a long time and nash is a master at exploiting switches.
dont get me wrong, i love nash, but he is nowhere near the same player he once was. he's having nerve issues and he's not even sure how many games he can play in this year. can't take a chance on him now.
