A reporter asked MDA if kobe tells him when to pull him or play him when ever he needs a rest..Like kobe takes a rest then jumps up when he pleases and subs himself in no matter if he's playing poorly, foul trouble, doesn't matter, he does what he wants in a respect full matter..and all MDA can do is basically agree so they don't bump heads.
So I'm wondering if melo has that kind of control over woodson. Maybe that can explain the offense that we use in the 4th qtr, mabye that would explain that no matter who's on the floor there goal is to get melo the ball how ever you can.
I'll give MDA a little bit of a pass on his passive approach to his star player, kobe's earn that right, and his IQ is still of the charts..
I personally don't believe that woods has ENOUGH control over melo to take this team to a championship. I don't think that Woodson is smart enough or deep enough that he can teach melo how to play this game on a MENTAL Level, in other words he has no shot on boosting melos IQ
I already know the hammers coming for wooody, the the writing is on the wall and he knows it, he's seen the movie before...
So I ask..Is it best to get a coach that won't bow down to his star player, or is it best to get players that won't bow down to your star player??
Coaches get fired if they dont bend.
Outside of Pop who will bench his starters over a missed defensive assignment, name a coach who tells his stars what to do.
MDA is a terrible example btw, both those guys respect the hell out of each other.
Prigs > Felton
+ Woodson < average

Knicks less than average
Woodson spewed a lot of BS about holding EVERYONE accountable. He usually just holds the young players accountable. I call that the Dantoni special. How many times has Shump been yelled at for bad D. Then ask yourself how many times has Melo been yelled at for bad D. Woodson saw what melo did to Dantoni. I think even he knows who really is in charge between the two of them.
Please do not compare Melo to Kobe. Rings really do mean something.

Rings are the result.
The truth is desire to win at all cost.
And Kobe and Melo are at at the opposite end of it.
At the end everyone get what he deserve.
Woodson has know balls, he had no say in his roster, just slight input.. You know the courtesy (what do you think about this move)line, but couldn't careless what he thinks..
Anytime the GM who hired you gets demoted, your next up for sure, MDA knew it and pulled the trigger on himself.
Melo has been playing better D, and had some nice rebounding games, but he's killing us on the offensive end big time, and the coach is letting him, cause he has no offensive system that doesn't require melo to not work for every single shot he takes..
Honestly guys, how far do you think we can't get with these 2 together..
Thread title could be considered a little mango when you think about it...

Problem is limited playmakers. Woodson wants ball movement and extra passes but he doesn't have any playmakers (including Melo) to put the defense off balance and create the easy looks. Last season Melo did enough in the post to create ball swinging and open 3s.
The best bet IMO is to work the PNP with Melo and Bargs.

yea especially in light of the sign jason collins thread
Star players on every team could control the coach. You have to find the players that are willing to exert or not exert for the good of the team and not themselves. Melo is not that guy, he controls for himself and any player that is willing to kiss his ass like JR SMith.

It's not just JR, it's everybody who plays with melo, towards the end of the season even kidd started resorting to melo, granted melo was on a tear in march/april, he wasn't anything close in the playoffs.
Melo is a hell of a scorer when he's on, so I can sometimes see why you just want to throw him the ball and get the hell out of his way. But when he's off, you wonder why his coach and his teammates still force feed him the ball..
No player is good enough to be "on" all if the time. The great ones find other ways to help the team win when they are off. Force feeding 1player even when he is on is not smart and fools good. Play like a team for 82+ games
Melo definitely controls Woodson. Any other coach would have already said to Melo WTF you doing.
Melo's has his hand up woodson's ass working him like some potato-headed puppet. That's why Woodson never comes up with any intelligent plays or rotations, his brain is made of stuffing.
All are puppets under CAA or should I say World Wide Wes.
He's the puppeteer behind the scenes.

Wes is a powerful dude, he more game then any athlete alive..
Did knicks1248 say "Know Balls"?

It is why if Dolan is going to listen to anybody now that the Knicks are in this kind of early trouble, he ought to listen to his coach. And keep reminding himself that Mike Woodson didn’t forget how to coach after 54 regular-season victories and an Atlantic Division title last season that nobody saw coming. And have enough sense to know that Woodson is the best basketball man in his organization, though with the Knicks you sometimes think that “organization” sounds a little strong.

knicks1248 - when was the last time to you told the person who signs your checks, how to run their business, because you deserved more authority than the job they hired you for?
Woodson has lost this team a bit. It started last year and is really showing this year.
"You Caint Lose What You Never Had" - unknown
Tj23 - what is the evidence that Wooodson has lost the team?
How did he lose Metta, Bargnani, THJ, and Ray Felton?
how did he lose JR, who has not played a game yet?

If he hasn't loss the team, then he's responsible for the way there playing. If there doing everything he asked of them and were losing, thats really bad.
