Woody is doing Dolans dirty work and pretty soon if this keeps up he may not travel with the team.

New York Knicks Rumors: Iman Shumpert-Mike Woodson feud adds to trade talks

New York Knicks guard Iman Shumpert has been the subject of trade rumors for the past couple of weeks.

One thing is clear and that is the fact that this front office is willing to move the third-year guard.

Another thing becoming crystal clear is that his relationship with head coach Mike Woodson isn’t doing Shumpert any favors.

Woodson and Shumpert barked at each other on the court Thursday during the Knicks 109-106 loss to Houston at the Garden.

After the exchange, Shumpert walked away from the coach with noticeable disgust and sat on the bench.

Their relationship has always been a bit suspect and during their back-and-forth it didn’t look like things have improved much.

Woodson hasn’t exactly come to Shumpert’s defense as of late when it comes to the swirling trade rumors.

During last February’s trade deadline, a report surfaced the Phoenix Suns asked about Shumpert in an exchange for Jared Dudley. That deal obviously wasn’t made and Woodson said at the time Shumpert was “a big piece of the future.’’

However his tune hasn’t been the same regarding Shumpert ever since.

Woodson, when asked about the Shumpert trade rumors, told the New York Post’s Marc Berman that trade rumors are “part of the business’’ and he still has to play hard while “still in a Knick uniform.’’

It’s no secret that Woodson has had a problem with Shump’s perceived cocky attitude for some time now. It’s also no secret that Shump has a reputation for not taking to coaching well.

Add all of that up and it’s not good for Shumpert’s future in New York.

A coach needs to be a player’s biggest supporter.

That’s not the case with Shumpert and Woodson as their mini-feud could lead to Shumpert’s way out of town.

Hopefully Woodson is fired before Shumpert is traded. Maybe a new coach will learn to appreciate him and not favor JR over him.

But who am I kidding. Dolan will hire another yes man who caters to the big money players on the team

I just don't understand the Woody and JR Smith relationship. Now all this mess is messing up Shump and I can Imagin what some of the players are thinking about why is Chriss Smith is on this team when we need a center right now and Chriss is sitting right there. Amare will be making over 20 million this season and either he can play the game of basketball or he can't. Screw those 10 min games. If Amare can't play he needs to retire NOW!!

Dream on- DOLAN wants rid of Shump, so even if Woody was fired, Shump is still gone. We've seen this s*** before (Camby, Sprewell, Lin etc)

True.

Woodson threw JR under the bus today too so I don't think this article is fair....

Woodson said today about JR "eventually no team will deal with you"..... so that's more defamatory than anything.

Cut the bullshit. The Knicks need a trade... we need a big, Felton sucks and Shump is our best chip. The end.

holfresh @ 11/16/2013 1:30 PM
I never like to speculate on what's happening behind the scenes...I have no clue what happening in the front office or on the bench...What I can comment on is whats happening on the court..This is a big year for Shump and he didn't improve...He didn't work on his game in the off season...He still has no mid-range game and he still isn't a good ball handler...This team improvement was dependent on him stepping up...He doesn't have the skills for the team to get better.. Breen was saying that Shump might be an all star this year..Lots of folks thought this would be his year...He is far from that..He was in the public eye numerous times over the summer..He isn't a rook anymore..There are expectations on him, and he doesn't look like he can deliver...

These guys at MSG really don't like hard-working young players who keep their noses clean, do they?

If we do make a trade, it should probably be for a PG

Also, why does Dolan care THAT much that Shump skipped out on the summer league?

What makes you say that? He's in excellent shape, he worked hard to come back from knee surgery relatively quickly, and all the reports were that even while he couldn't run, he was working on his jump shot. I think his jump shot looks better this season. It'll start falling.

Yup, this is why depending on how this situatins plays out I will be changing my feeling on this team. I can only take so much BS. I think woody is making it harder on shump to get in good graces with Dolan.

Ok, lets look at all the negative things that JR has done for this team and all the negative things that SHump has done for this team. If you believe that both are being treated equal in relation to their negative output you might be the only one.

Woody is doing what he needs to do to survive. He's playing the loyal employee- he knows if he doesn't do what Dolan commands, he's gone, so he's biting his tongue and doing what he's told. Dolan wants rid of Shump so Woody goes along with it. He has no power, no standing, so he can't stand up to him. He'll be fired anyways, though!

He didn't do much work this offseason and came to camp out of shape. Chose to do a publicity thing instead of playing in the summer league. However, he has had knee soreness that limited his working out- he had to keep shutting it down, so he has a legit excuse.

MS @ 11/16/2013 2:13 PM
This is why the Knicks fucking suck. This is why the organization is trash.

Dolan focuses on
Dancers, Media Policies, Summer League, The Nets, A poor woman not recognizing him, CAA, Isiah Thomas

We reward guys for no reason. A guy that partied instead of play. A guy that even after a knee surgery, a suspension, a family signing embarrassing tweets, selfish play is given a double standard.

Much like a GM that lost the team 100MM lost its fan base, a costly sexual harrassment lawsuit he treats like gold and users a guy like Don Chaney out of the building.

Fish rots from the top down. Always has, always will. So if we give up on a talented kid while Smiths brother takes up a roster spot. This is it for this team.

This is like Dolan a kid rises from obscurity to renergize a fan base, bring excitement back to a team ready to fold and then foolishly doesn't make an offer because he feels he made the kid. He felt betrayed and made it about him and we lost a player we need in yhrt lineup.

Same thing with Marv Alpert saying he couldn't justify his raise and allowed him to leave MSG.

How many times does this shit have to happen. Double standards make for 1 playoff series win in 10 years.

Every player who has the hunger has improved...George in Indy is killing it..Love lost a lot of weight to get at the level he is playing at...How could Shump come to camp out of shape..He did zero in the off season...I did see him in the press all summer tho...Breen said he thought Shump could be an all star this year..This is the high hopes many have for this kid...He didn't want to play in summer league..Now his game shows no improvement...He isn't a kid anymore...Kid gloves are gone...The NBA is littered with guys who aren't taking this seriously...

It's not just about his shot. He needed time at the pg in the summer to develop his skills. He is a great athlete but lacks the ability to finish at the rim in traffic. His best move is the Euro step which looks so awkward and lack explosion after the cross step. I do like that he is rebounding better and is a better spot up shooter but what else can he do? Its early in his career and he can still improve. However I think the real problem and this has been there since the 1st game is that his defense has been terrible. Its been straight up blow byes and back door cuts along with completely failing to fight through screens.

Despite his weaknesses I do think it is a dumb continuing trend to let negative stuff come leak out about a player you want to trade which decreases his value because teams know you are desperate to trade him. They should be treating him like Asik is treated by Houston.

Holfresh, I think your overlooking somethings about shump, for 1, he had a schedule trip to china (i forgot what for) prior to the summer league invite, 2)the only reason we are to believe dolan was even bothered by his absence (or woody) is a leaked behind the seen's conversation that stephen A and D howard were having..He never confirm it, never went public, and practically back tracked when it became public.. 3)his jumper has improved a lot since last yr.. 4)shump even admitted to himself and the public that his mind was not where it is suppose to be, and he decided to turn that around starting with the stupid flat top

As much as I like shump, I'm not oppose to making anykind of trade that makes sense and will help this team now, and that goes for anyone on the roster.

One thing is for certain, we have way to much distraction this yr for us to be as good as last yr

1)shump trade talk
2)woodson job
3)jr
4)chris smith
5)the use of amare
6)kmarts minutes
7)line up issues
8)melo's pending FA
9)role issues
10)No leadership

take a look at that list and tell me was any of that sht going on last season

We can't focus, and that from a coach and players stand point.

When the coach has made his mind about who will start and who will get what position and who will shoot whenever they want it's going to be difficult for Shump to break out. These trade rumor have hurt the Knicks in the past. Remember Chandler, Felton and Gallo's play went down as soon as Melo rumors heated up. I see what Shump is doing why perform for a team that has basically sold you short. Make sure the Knicks gives up a lot and gets very little in return. Screw these jokers.
