Report: Knicks Owner James Dolan Bans Woody Allen From VIP Lounge

According to the New York Post, Knicks owner James Dolan has banned popular funnyman and filmmaker Woody Allen from Madison Square Garden’s VIP lounge.

Dolan reportedly requested that Allen appear on MSG to introduce some of his famous films after the network bought the rights to air several of Allen’s movies. It was a request that Allen was uncomfortable with according to the Post report.

“He got a call from someone at MSG saying they had bought the rights to air several of Woody’s movies on the MSG channel and wanted Woody to go on the air and talk about his movies or introduce them,” a source told the Post. “Woody said he would not be comfortable doing that. He has never done that for any show or network. They then said that this was a ‘reciprocal arrangement’ and that if Woody couldn’t go on TV for them, he should not eat in their VIP restaurant anymore. Woody said fine and thanked them for the many years he had enjoyed the space there.”

Allen has been attending Knicks games for years and frequently visits MSG’s Suite 200. The VIP section allows celebrities and athletes to mingle with one another during halftime and before games while enjoying complimentary food and drink.

Were they willing to pay him? The statement that Dolan "wanted Woody to go on the air and talk about his movies or introduce them" makes me wonder if they just expected this to be charity work

I'm assuming Dolan expected this after all the years of being allowed in VIP with all the food and amenities. Can't for Allen to go on tv when he doesn't want to though. Just more ridiculousness out of Dolan to detract from the sad state of the team. Like with the Knicks city dancers SMFH

I've been to the lounge, it's very nice, the food and drinks are quite enjoyable as well.

Dont see why Woody would have to come on TV just to promote his older movies, not like anyone hasnt seen them before.

Woody Allen has held season tickets to Knick games since before their last championship. Woody held his tongue and didn't criticize Doaln during the Isiah years and kept going to games, and this is how he's rewarded. Eat some more artery clogging foods Dolan, please!

They need to do away with that whole Jill Scott segment with celebrities and just focus on fuckin basketball

But he pays to be in the VIP area, right? Can anyone who pays be in that area or do you have to be famous?
gunsnewing @ 11/24/2013 4:46 PM
I don't think he does it's a privilege of being a celebrity

I like it when she talks to C list stars!

gunsnewing @ 11/24/2013 4:53 PM
At this rate there won't be any stars to talk to and they will get rid of that dopey segment. This is mimicking the Isiah years. I expect people to be able to go to the garden for $40 again next year. You can look forward to the 2015 lottery pick we are forced to actually hold on to

+1
Now if it was "a new york minute with Tina Cervasio" things would be different.

Looks like slowly but surely Dolan losing what’s left from his originally weak mind.

tough critics lol Jill is starting to hit the wall but she can still get it. No one would care one way or the other if the tram was half way close to being decent.

If Chris Smith needs a VIP seat, by all means ban the 78 year old second most famous fan of the Knicks. Stay classy, Dolan.

Maybe kicking Allen out will put a new curse on the Knicks?

"Now, a favorite crackpot notion of mine is the following: I think the Knicks never regained their past championship form because they sinned by trading Walt Frazier to Cleveland. I can’t prove this, but those who have read The Rime of the Ancient Mariner know what the shooting of that bird did. Not that Frazier was an Albatross. Quite the contrary. He was, in my opinion, the greatest of all Knickerbocker players, and he was for a time not only the soul of the team but one of the spirits of this city."
