with Bryant's extension at 22-24m per year for 2 years
Nash
Nick Young aka Swaggy P (player option at vet min)
Robert Sacre
and
Melo at a max contract
with vet min players, MLE or room exemption, and the lack of talent needed to actually have a TEAM
2 questions for people here....
1- if they sign Melo as a FA in the summer, do the Laker's still have the ability to resign Pau Gasol, Jordan Hill, and/or Steve Blake, or have to renouncing their rights in first or can they sign Melo and still resign these UFA's that they hold their bird rights to
2- If Melo opts out, can we sign and trade him for a large trade exemption and their 1st round pick in the summer, with future picks as well
I think we would be able to do this, much like Nets did with Joe Johnson, most importantly is the trade exemption that we could use early in 2015 (1 year from trade) to use in a trade after signing our core of FA's in 2015 summer...
If we trade Melo to Lakers now instead, taking back Pau, Jordan Hill, and Steve Blake, while reshipping them out for future assets and picks along with JR (let his stock rise and trade him when he gets healthy as he will play closer to where he was last season), Felton (with Melo to Lakers), with separate deals in Iman, Kmart, Chandler, Pablo, Udrih, for future picks as well and preserving our cap space for 2015
If Melo is going to leave, wouldn't you rather wait until he comes off the cap? Would have a much larger selection of players to choose from.
What's the point in renting Kobe for 2 seasons and a bunch of crap?
those players are all expirings to begin with and might be able to be resent for draft picks/assets

I would role with that, and I would shop pau for a pick for sure,Jordan Hill may be a keeper.. that would be a start....what the lakers and carmelo do from here on out, I could care less..
How come whenever the Melo to the Lakers rumor pops up nobody ever mentions the fact that Carmelo and D'Antoni hate each other's guts. Would LA simply fire Pringles if they had a shot at Melo? Also, how are they going to fill out their roster after that ridiculous extension they have Kobe?
