Knicks · New Poster (page 1)

WP76 @ 12/2/2013 12:14 PM
At Martin's suggestion, I just wanted to introduce myself as a new poster on this forum.

I'm a Knick fan of 40 plus years. I attended the US Military Academy from 1972-1976 and the Knicks won their last title when I was a plebe (freshman). I recall listening to the Finals on an illicit transistor radio and I was absolutely elated when they won it all in 1973. During a 30 year military career, I followed and supported the team from assignments around the country and the world.

Although I've now retired from the Army and live in "flyover country," I watch every Knicks game on LeaguePass. Even though the team is currently on an awful losing streak, just getting to watch them after decades of not being able to is quite a privilege. Hopefully, the team can turn things around and soon.

Great to be here and I look forward to conversing with you all about our favorite basketball team.

Run dude..... save yourself
gunsnewing @ 12/2/2013 12:47 PM
Welcome aboard man! Sorry the team is in shambles
arkrud @ 12/2/2013 12:58 PM
Great to see you.
It needs a strong man to stay positive with this team.
But may be a great time to join... like buying stock market at the bottom... :)

A rare insight...

Welcome! Cut your losses and just spend time rooting for the Knicks to lose! It will make your stay here so much more enjoyable right now.

It might be contrary to everything you thought you might do while conversing about your favorite team, but that's mostly the tone here in Negative World these days...

Sorry you weren't here last season. Strong-willed people with a positive outlook who aren't living the entitlement dream are a rare commodity in here these days!

Welcome to the forum.
smackeddog @ 12/2/2013 2:07 PM
Greetings- we're going through tough times, but as you know we've been through them before! Wish the players felt as privileged about playing as you do about watching!

Welcome!!!!

Your meeting the family now. Jrod is the moral fiber that aids in digestion when we eat humble pie.

You'll no doubt meet the Homers, the Haters and the Sombers.

Your a bit older than even I and built your base of fanship on the Knick Legacy as did I. Its a curse actually!

Enjoy the site and the varied opinions that poplulate it!

Thank you for your service and welcome aboard.
playa2 @ 12/2/2013 3:32 PM
Welcome sir I hope your stay here in Knicks country is a pleasant one. Maybe you will bring us good fortunes against the Nets.
DrAlphaeus @ 12/2/2013 5:09 PM
Welcome! What is your opinion on the orange jerseys?
IronWillGiroud @ 12/2/2013 5:18 PM
Welcome sarge good to have you

Thanks for the responses. As to the question about the orange jerseys, I think they're awful. The game we played against Atlanta in their red away jerseys while we wore the home(?) orange jerseys caused retinal damage from which I've yet to recover.

Th Answer Man welcomes WP76

Your first three questions are on the house.

Papabear Says

Welcome aboard its nice to hear from someone who remember the good old days like me. I was at 2 of the games. Back then I was a big time record produce with hit records and good friends with Earl the Pearl even before he came to new york. Hung with Walt Fraizer but he probably forgot who I am. But thats ok because Clyde gave me great times. This is a great forum and you will meet up with the haters. They are really funny like spoiled kids. We are now going through hard times and I don't know whats going to happen. I know one thing they need to get rid of those ugly uniforms. I call them bad luck uniforms.

Moonangie @ 12/2/2013 6:45 PM
Welcome to UK. Don't mind the riff raff...there are a lot of bright posters on here. Hope you add to the discussion.
CrushAlot @ 12/2/2013 6:46 PM
This is a great site and if you have been a fan for 40 years I am sure you don't need consoling about the current knicks. Be sure to check out SlickSports under other stuff on the tool bar. You can get the news feed for any major sport and you can isolate it to a particular city if you want to read about a specific team. Lots of great fans here.
GustavBahler @ 12/2/2013 7:36 PM
Welcome, sorry its under these circumstances.
jrodmc @ 12/3/2013 11:41 AM
And although JesseDark beat me to it, WP76:
Thank you, seriously, for serving, Sir. I don't take lightly the privileges (least of which are things like following the Knicks) you have helped to provide.

A Program to Tell the Players apart: (obviously, all game pieces are free to move about the cabin)

Nalod - the Centrist; a voice of reason who balances Knicklove with love of all things grown originally in Long Island. Ask him about his Dr. J wristbands, it's a true panic button. Doesn't believe in labeling people. Has more copyrighted material on this site than anyone other than martin and Andrew.

BasketBallJones - only here for the RickRolling, and possibly the Alba threads.

93Buick - Light years ahead of our current owner as a musician. Only a passing interest in posting here, but worth the read. Provided you don't mind hunting through thousands of threads to find his posts.

NardDogNation - Engages the Sombers with almost a gleeful abandon, while maintaining a mild level of Knickloyalty. Even sticks up for JR Smith over the dearly departed Jesus Lin. Possible homer tendencies, but hasn't declared completely yet.

The Sombers:
tkf - will explain NBA reality to you, according to someone who knows, namely, himself. Try not to overreact to the barrage of posts which are usually posted concurrently (opening multiple reply windows can be a terrible thing). He is a formidable anti-homer, enjoying possibly the greatest stretch of self-actualization possible right now. (Note: don't mention Melo in a positive way anywhere within 5 miles of one of his posts)

Bonn - The ordained minister of statistical validation. Don't tangle with him over numbers. He will one-line you to death. Nod approvingly and move on. Also serves as the defacto Attorney General/Defense Council of the Somber/Anti-Homers league.

dktf - see tkf, only not as much on the Melo hate. Melo apparently only killed his cat, not his dog (see tkf again).

gunsewing - would deport this entire squad (minus Shump) to a workcamp in the Ukraine to compete in curling. If you forget when we last won a chip, he will remind you.

IronWillGiroud - aka as the orangeblobman (or something to that effect) all about white Euro power forwards (no matter who they play for), deep squats, ingestion of lard/heavy cream. This is all you need know.

djunyc - Your Toronto Raptors, all day, every day. And all that that implies.

BRIGGS - a relative necomer to the fold of Somber negativity. Has realistic thread authorship, will travel. Currently a charter member on the tkf A-list (despite a nagging belief that Melo might actually be worth more in the NBA than infected toe warts from the 12th century, AD).

The Homers (or what's left of them during this stretch of mayhem/many of them will probably deny belonging to this club):
misterearl (AnswerMan) - An original. His insights will prop up your hope in humanity (should you actually need that type of thing). Although the homerism has been flagging lately, always an excellent read, in a NY Times/Wall Street Journal type of storytelling way.

PapaBear - you have to have someone on every board who refers to themselves in third person singular. Possibly the most "vicious" homer on the board, will fight you to the death for the orange and blue. Will question your negativity and fandom for food, fun, or both. Harmless, though, despite the fangs and blood.

GustavBahler - Nalod without either the Nets connections or fond memories of the ABA. Fair and balanced posting, with a bent towards homerism.

CrushAlot - neck in neck with PapaBear. Would rather die than switch. Fighting for the blue and orange is a given.

JohnStarksFan - wrote the definitive post on the current overwhelming "mitching" response to losing basketball games the wrong way with the wrong players with the wrong management and the wrong owner. And the wrong coach. Then promptly decided that he'd rather leave the board than start mitching about the team himself.

Apologies and/or congratulations to those not noted.
