Knicks · anybody still play ball on the regular? (page 1)

EnySpree @ 12/3/2013 1:17 PM
Looking to play ball again.... haven't played in years.

Would be nice to gather to play some half court to get through this latest fuckery going on with our team.

IronWillGiroud @ 12/3/2013 1:20 PM
haven't balled since Rec League retirement in early 2013,

but would very much like to get back on the hardwoods (concrete) again,

but let's do this and not just talk about it,

i know we have a bunch of jersey people and also new york people, so let's do a home and home, one in nj, the park next to Nutley high school and another where you choose in nyc

IronWillGiroud @ 12/3/2013 1:21 PM

Between geritol breaks. I didn't start slowing down until I hit my late 40s. Back in NYC I remember this guy who was 50 who was so fast that you had to see it to believe it. Guys kept saying "that dude's 50!" Couldn't believe it myself. He was thin as a rail which helps. I'm his age now and I'd kill to move that fast again.

I play with my sons, but I have to really watch it now. Mostly I just take it easy, play D like the old days in short stints and go into Andre Miller Mode on offense with the old school moves. Left Knee can only take so much.

i play in a indoor league in north jersey.. usually year round.

Im a middle school girls bb coach. We practice everyday after school and every now and then I jump into the scrimmage with them to show them a thing or 2. Or when we are short handed. Not sure if this really counts as balling on the reg, though....

The league I am in in Matawan, NJ has some guys in their 20s but 90% of the guys are in their 30s, 40s, even 50s. But its full court 5-on-5 pickup games for 2+ hours on a brand new indoor court and we even have a defibrillator onsite! We use a middle-school gym which we've paid to refurbish over the years. The good thing about these leagues is the level of play is actually pretty good. Some of these guys played serious ball in their day. EVERYONE can shoot the ball, some are extraordinary shooters. I'm not as good a shooter as most of these guys but if you're a little bit athletic and still have your speed or hops you do stand out so if you can't shoot lights out you can still contribute in other ways. I do a lot of penetrate and kick to the open man since I know these guys can shoot with a little daylight as my athleticism sucks in the defenders.

Overall the league is good shooting, generally high bball IQ. Not much predicated on speed but if you have speed or hops then its a real advantage.

Yup, 2-3 times a week, but I'm in Long Beach, California...
