What do you think is the right course for the Knicks?
jrodmc @ 12/9/2013 10:36 AM
1) All Knick's fans to massively boycott MSG
2) Demand the league rescind the Melo trade
3) Ask Mr. Ponzi to somehow manage to get Dolan indicted for something
4) Revert to the '90's uniforms
5) Trade everyone now, including Shump for draft picks and future cap space and money
6) Fold the franchise until the draft picks are ready to play, and an 18 year-old coach is available.
7) Move the franchise to Queens or Long Island (I hear the Coliseum might be available on the cheap)
8) Concentrate on getting the Rangers back to the Cup
9) Help put Arod behind bars, as a PR move
10) Ensure Dolan is extradited to some foreign country with an extremely slow court system to stand trial

--------or---------

Watch and wait and hope for the Knicks to win.

Knixkik @ 12/9/2013 10:44 AM
Play the season out while making making minor trades that don't effect 2015 cap space. Most will say trade Melo and blow it up, but there is no upside to that unless you are getting franshise talent (i.e. Blake Griffin) back. If we lose him in the offseason, we can probably salvage a couple draft picks and tank for a high 2015 pick, then rebuild thru free agency. If we resign him, we remain in the middle of the pack for one more season and can still retool thru free agency. All is not lost, we are not the Nets, who are stuck in their current situation for much longer.
EnySpree @ 12/9/2013 10:53 AM
The time to trade is now....knicks need to make several roster moves immediately.
EnySpree @ 12/9/2013 11:02 AM
Beno and Artest for second round picks....

Felton and Shump need to be gone.... period.

Jeremy Tyler needs to be on the main roster.

Knicks need to bring in a point guard from somewhere. Until then play priggy and murry.

Trade Amare or banish him.

Change the locker room

Bonn1997 @ 12/9/2013 11:09 AM
Hire an expert metrics GM. Maybe one of Morey's proteges. The rest will take care of itself.
franco12 @ 12/9/2013 11:27 AM
If you are truly rational about this - then look- as good as Melo is, he is too old and we don't have the assets coming to help him get over the hump.

Blow the roster up now and try to rebuild. If Melo is open to a below market contract, he can stay - otherwise as for a list of 5 teams he might sign for and trade him.

Start rebuilding - because while you think you can't rebuild in NYC- you also can't can't blown out by 40 on your home court by what is slightly better than an expansion team (Celtics).

Rebuild, and at least the losses make sense.

The orange jerseys made them do it!

What do you have in mind by "below market"? If he wanted around $8 mil a year, I'd keep him but that won't happen. And even still, you can't let this trade deadline pass just because he assures you now that when he opts out he'll take a below market contract.

Dolan is way too stubborn and deluded to trade Melo- if he decides not to sign with us, Dolan will let him walk for nothing just to ensure he can't get as big a contract, just out of spite.

That would be part of it, and the other part would be ensuring that we don't blow it up too early, as we have no pick so there is no upside.

the upside to blowing it up right now is:

1. give up any illusions that we might be 1 deal away from being competitive and take the chance to further ruin our potential away from the front office
2. develop young talent
3. have an excuse for all the losses
4. you might actually put out a more competitive team!

I don't know how low we can actually go with the extension - but I'm thinking something in the $15-20M range, with the salary scaling down, not up - Chicago, I think, has done that with players.

Trying to salvage an ok season where we are only like 3 games out of the playoffs, giving Denver a worse pick, etc. There is no upside to a panick rebuild if we don't have a pick anyways, unless we are getting real value in return. Staying on course allows us options in the offseason. If we want to move on we will have the ability to do so and have our own 2015 pick and the free agent class of 2015. But no point in changing course this season.

IronWillGiroud @ 12/9/2013 12:34 PM
You can't salvage this season. The quality isn't there, the Will isn't there.

5-14 is too deep.

Your best case is an 8th seed and a 1st-round-and-out.

What do you want me to salvage? Our pick is gonna be the lotto and it's gonna go to Denver.

As much as you want to paint a pretty picture here, it's impossible. It's impossible. This is the ugliest picture of any team in any league anywhere in the world, in any sport. Think about that.

What should the Knicks do? I'll sit here and we can go back and forth all day, they should NOT trade for Melo, they should NOT sign Amar'e; but this is our fate in life, the sticks and straws we drew. You wanna tell me otherwise? Think three times before you ride the proverbial fence-unicorn.

Dig the pits.

What are you talking about? Stop looking at the record for a minute. Most teams who are 3 games out of a playoff spot are playing for the playoffs up to the end of the season. Most teams who are 3 1/3 games out of 4th seed still consider themselves in reasonable shape. Ontop of which we have Chandler coming back which will help a lot, that is a fact. Why do Knicks fans panic so much? Yes it's bad, but look at the standings. I don't get it. And the ugliest picture in basketball is in our city but it isn't us.

BRIGGS @ 12/9/2013 12:55 PM
I guess for the time-being--do what I can to trade for Lowry to play PG--you can move Felton to 2g or third guard and use Toure Murry and Hardaway as your 4.

Shumpert 1.8mm
Udrih 1.3mm
Prigs 1.7mm
2018 2nd rounder
for Lowry

tkf @ 12/9/2013 1:07 PM
BLOW IT UP..

The temptation for this moronic front office to keep trying to build around a loser is too great..

Try to move carmelo for whatever you can, but make sure it includes a pick.

Do the same for tyson chandler

The same for Bargnani if anyone is that stupid..

Let THJ, shumpert play, make mistakes and play some more... we need to really evaluate them..

Hire a competent GM as Bonn said and the rest will take care of itself..

Nalod @ 12/9/2013 1:26 PM
can't tank cuz we don't have our pick.

Were can Melo go? Lakers?

I think we stay the course. I don't see rebuilding in until we get picks. even just our picks.
