Straight from the horse's mouth. Nice work. Thanks, Carmelo.

I said this before and will again.. he is a jackass an idiot and a loser.. so basically what he is saying is that the knicks gave up a lot to get him, enough to set them back? ahhhh I don't think that is what dolan wants to hear.... so carmelo basically helped denver fleece us.. and someone explain to that idiot what rebuilding is.. no team rebuilds with two guys making 20 mil a year nearing their 30's....

holfresh - if you are the general manager for 30 minutes, do you keep Melo or start working the cel phone to gauge interest?

The problem with Knick fans is they want change for the sake of change...With these changes ushers in no foundation, constant uncertainty, zero direction, the very thing they complain about...Put a guy in charge who knows what is is to be in NY, like say Alan Houston, who has a foundation with the team and ain't going anywhere..Let him fail, change course and regroup, learn on the job..Hire a coach like Mark Jackson who knows what it is to play in NY(we love defense) and can be a leader of men( that was my argument for Jackson when Donnie was deciding between MDA, Jackson and whoever)..Melo is a keeper..He has the thick skin to thrive in NY, not many people do...He took the blame for MDA leaving and went out on a tear...Many players will wilt in these bright lights, see Shump...Shin-Soo Choo turned down 140 mil from the Yanks and took 130 from the Rangers..Here ain't for everyone...Keep the ones who can handle it...Find a damn PG who can bring tempo to the offense and play a little D...Beno need not apply or Prigs for that matter...I really don't think it's that deep..

OKC looked at lot like the Knicks when Westbrook went down...Durant looked at lot like Melo when Westbrook wasn't there..Get Melo some help...Get rid of Amare's contract, sign a player who can take the pressure of Melo logging 40+minutes a game and three guys hanging on his shirt during a turnaround jumper...That won't happen until 2015...No need to throw out the baby with the bath water...

Am I crazy to say last two years is the best basketball Melo has played in his career??...U can't ask him to do more than he has done this season, even on the defensive end, can u??...I guess he can still pass more...So the answer is to trade a dollar for 4 quarters and hope one of the quarters become a dollar??..Doesn't make sense to me but it might to many...Change..

god what a laughably stupid post.

I will.. first of all this getting people who know what it takes to play in NY to coach in NY to be a GM in NY is absolutely ridiculous... no need to elaborate on that... you wouldn't take popavich here? would he know what it is like to play or coach in NY? come on..

next stop trying to excuse carmelo from this mess.. he is a big cause of this mess.. and most of all CUT OUT THE DURANT COMPARISONS.. DURANT WITHOUT WESTBROOK INCREASED HIS DEFENSE, ASSIST AND REBOUNDS!!! THAT IS JUST A PATHETIC ATTEMPT... PATHETIC..

burn this team.. it needs to be dismantled.. getting rid of carmelo first.. yes this team needs direction.. getting the right baasketball people in here will do that.. getting a real franchise talent in here will give us a foundation to build with, getting the right talent, the right group of guys. smart players, high IQ guys is what we need....

carmelo needs help.. he sure does, he needs to visit oz to see the wizard to get a brain, a heart, and some defense..

No, we want changes that can help us eventually compete for a championship, something that we're clearly nowhere near capable of doing with the current roster

...With these changes ushers in no foundation,

I don't know what this means

constant uncertainty,

So? I'm certain that we suck right now and, if we don't make wholesale changes, I'm certain we'll suck 5 years from now as well. I'd rather be uncertain about sucking 5 years from now instead.

zero direction,

Completely incorrect. The direction is that we'll tank in 2015 for a high lottery pick and rebuild around him and whatever highend free agent is willing to sign here in the Summer of 2015 or 2016. We then use the other draft picks we've stockpiled during this firesale and continuously bring in new, cheap talent to improve our team.

the very thing they complain about

I'm pretty sure the thing we complain about is that we're a terrible basketball team with no plan to improve

...Put a guy in charge who knows what is is to be in NY, like say Alan Houston, who has a foundation with the team and ain't going anywhere..Let him fail, change course and regroup, learn on the job..Hire a coach like Mark Jackson who knows what it is to play in NY(we love defense) and can be a leader of men( that was my argument for Jackson when Donnie was deciding between MDA, Jackson and whoever)

How about we put someone in charge who can properly evaluate talent and understands how to work the salary cap to our advantage? I'd rather they learn how to deal with NY media on the job instead of learning how to be a good GM

Let's assume that Melo is in fact "a keeper". At what price? He'll be 30 years old at the end of this season and if we give him a max he'll using up nearly half of the salary cap until he's 35.

Find a damn PG who can bring tempo to the offense and play a little D...Beno need not apply or Prigs for that matter...I really don't think it's that deep..

Again, how are we getting a good PG when we basically won't be able to sign any free agents?

Can we acknowledge that only 1 first round pick was traded to get melo? Also, amare's contract is a huge deal and the Knicks traded their lottery pick and a top 1 protected pick was moved to sign amare. Also, for all of the play the 14th man to develop youth, where were these complaints when the Knicks had a lottery pick, a first rounder and the moz getting dnps nightly on a 29win team that featured duh on, Jeffries, bender and al Harrington.

Sure? But that has nothing to do with any of the points I made.

Also, amare's contract is a huge deal and the Knicks traded their lottery pick and a top 1 protected pick was moved to sign amare.

No, we made those trades to have cap room in one of the best free agent classes in NBA history. We ended up signing Amare. And again, you know what happens if Amare's salary magically disappears from the books tomorrow? We're still $10M+ over the cap and can't sign free agents except with the MLE.

Also, for all of the play the 14th man to develop youth, where were these complaints when the Knicks had a lottery pick, a first rounder and the moz getting dnps nightly on a 29win team that featured duh on, Jeffries, bender and al Harrington.

Which lottery pick and 1st rounder are you talking about? Is Jordan Hill one of them? I'm pretty sure there were a lot of Knicks fans, myself included, that wanted Hill to get more burn. Who's the other first rounder? And Moz wasn't on that team, we signed him the same Summer we signed Amare.

We don't know yet whether 1 or 2 first round picks will end up being traded to get Melo. It depends on which team has the better record in 2016.

constant uncertainty,

I'd rather they learn how to deal with NY media on the job instead of learning how to be a good GM

..Melo is a keeper..He has the thick skin to thrive in NY, not many people do...He took the blame for MDA leaving and went out on a tear...Many players will wilt in these bright lights, see Shump...Shin-Soo Choo turned down 140 mil from the Yanks and took 130 from the Rangers..Here ain't for everyone...Keep the ones who can handle it...

OKC looked at lot like the Knicks when Westbrook went down...Durant looked at lot like Melo when Westbrook wasn't there

No, he didn't. Here is what Durant did in those playoffs and here is what Melo did. Notice that Durant scores more points, gets more rebounds, gets more assists, and shoots better from the field.

..Get Melo some help...Get rid of Amare's contract, sign a player who can take the pressure of Melo logging 40+minutes a game and three guys hanging on his shirt during a turnaround jumper...That won't happen until 2015...No need to throw out the baby with the bath water...

How are we getting Melo help with no draft picks and little cap space? And how does getting rid of Amare's contract next season help when we'd still be over the cap?

Am I crazy to say last two years is the best basketball Melo has played in his career??...U can't ask him to do more than he has done this season, even on the defensive end, can u??...I guess he can still pass more...So the answer is to trade a dollar for 4 quarters and hope one of the quarters become a dollar??..Doesn't make sense to me but it might to many...Change..

When I post or think about the Knick situation, I try to be honest with myself and address the Knicks issues with a tinge reality in mind...First off, the Knicks are not going to tank from now, going into the 2015/16 season...It won't happen...We won't get the best GM either, say the dude that run the Spurs, ain't happening...The reason the Knicks are floundering right now is Amare and his contract, you and others can ignore it but it's reality...As stated many times, we won't improve and compete until that is off the books...Trading Melo does nothing to rectify that situation...We can all keep our heads in the sand but it doesn't change anything...

Out GM has done a poor job the last two years with regards to the PG situation...I suggested this past off season we go after a CJ Watson type player who would be a vast improvement over what we currently have on the bench and given our restrictive salary structure...Watson can create more tempo and pace than what we currently have...

With regards to OKC, Durant, Knicks, Melo...OKC got bumped in the second round losing 4-1 to Memphis last year...We lost 4-2 to Indy, a better team than Memphis...Durant was putting up 23-30 shots per game...Reminds u of anything u saw last year without another star taking the pressure off the main guy???...

So your plan is to tank until 2015/16 and build around that pick..Who is he and what is his name?? how do u know he won't be garbage???...Dolan will never tank or rebuild, fact of life, fact when u begin to evaluate the Knicks...We can sit here and pretend all our problems revolve around Melo, that the previous GM and Coach was the greatest and didn't make a colossal blunder in signing Amare...Linsanity was here to save us all and Melo was the guy that blew out that flame...Again, a tinge of reality when addressing the Knicks problems..Prediction, if Felton is 100%, the Knicks will play better..Beno and Prigs are slow and don't play with pace...The lethargic Knicks need a PG that plays with pace...

That last paragraph is 100% truth. That's why I don't get the "blow it up" talk. It's not gonna happen under Dolan. We also brought Mills in to entice Melo to stay. We're not trading him unless he demands it (his free agency also gives him leverage in that regard). And lastly - as much I don't think Feltons very good, this team is MUCH better with him healthy. Don't rush him back and we'll be a little better but still not very good.

And just my opinion: I really think the whole Melo vs. Linsanity thing was completely overblown and media-created. I'm just surprised how many people ran with it.

misterearl @ 12/23/2013 3:42 PM
Holfresh - well stated. To your point about our best player, Carmelo is in his prime years. At the rate he is burning through minutes, that peak could be shortened. If I understand your line of thought, the Knicks culture does not allow for trading Carlos... I mean... Carmelo, due to his marquee appeal.

The alternative to trading him is putting a player beside him who has enough courage and ability to mimic his production... add 12 rebounds a night... and eventually take the lead. Much easier written than done. Players who can fill two stat columns like Zach Randolph don't come along often.

To the point of the thread title, other than Andrea Bargnani, the Knicks have no one close to taking responsibility for leading or consistently playing a support role, and Bargnani is a seven foot question mark. The entire supporting cast is ill-conceived, lacking in complementary skills sets and out of sync in the trust department.

The only yoot who's appears to "get it" is Tim Hardaway Jr. His most intriguing running buddy is Toure Murry. We talkin Toure Murry. Toure Murry. We not talkin' about Jason Kidd. Not Jason Kidd. We talkin bout Toure Murry.

Can we acknowledge that only 1 first round pick was traded to get melo?

Douglas and Hill were the guys I was referring to. Not sure why you felt the need to clarify how the team got Moz. They bought the pick that they took douglas with. Also, in regards to Moz, he didn't get any burn either until Shawne and Amare both had to miss a game. And yeah the trades were made to have cap room but that was a bit like spending your entire pay check on the lottery because the jackpot is so high. When you broadcast your plan to get cap space and appear desperate you get taken advantage of like the Knicks did in the Hill trade.
