I really don't get why we're not putting team options on years 2 and 3 of these guys' contracts so that we can keep them easily like the Rockets did with Beverly.
I think they did with Cj Leslie and Jeremy Tyler before they were cut. But it probably got overlooked after the management change that took place before the season.

yes of course it's the truth. but in order to fluff melo it is an immutable law that other players and a coach have to be denigrated. d'antoni, fields, gallo, both chandlers, lin, amare, copeland, novak, mozgov, shumpert-- the list goes on forever.
you know why they have to be denigrated?: because melo's career and his game can't stand on their own merits. this is not to say that he doesn't have value-- but as virtually every other player not named russell, magic, or bird-- it's a question of fit. melo fits in as a third wheel, kind of like bosh, kind of like aguirre.
getting back to mchale for a second-- he played with one of the unsung greats in dennis johnson, a player bird claimed was his greatest teammate-- so you don't think that he isn't looking at his backcourt players through his dj glasses? between fit and his own experience it is absolutely sound reasoning to start beverly.

So is Lin not a fit for any team since there he has no takers on market? Lin is a very average player with a oversized paycheck.. Remember the first 7 games!! Lin already fizzled here before he left but let's forget that. Fields, Novak , Copeland and Jeffries were also so great during that streak . Shame that they never get into games, must also be bad fits.

He had a great run and it was fun but the schedule for those 7 games was very weak. I believe the only team over .500 was the Lakers but the Jazz may have still been hovering around .500. Lin is a pretty good point but he does have weaknesses. Guys are usually given run against their former teams. He sat out the entire fourth quarter. Guys worth 15 mil a year are out there in the fourth unless they are hurt or in foul trouble.

very good points.. but we also don't need to go back that far.. look at how long manu ginobili came off the bench. .for a guy with all around star skills, he could start on any NBA team, but coming off the bench benefited the TEAM.. in the end, he is in when it counts...
Back to Mchale, I am sure he is looking at things as far as fit.. feelings and egos will have to take a back seat..

Harden and Lin both need to dominate the ball handling to be effective. Harden is the better player so he starts. Beverly is a hawk on defense and just plays balls out. He fits better with the starting unit. Lin also seems to suit the Manu role well. Watched him a little bit tonight and he had a tough time covering Courtney Lee. I don't watch the Rockets enough to know if Lin/Beverly works as a back court but tonight it wasn't working.
