I Man Shumpert never received basketball instruction at Georgia Tech. He was unpolished and raw. Like too many young fellas, he relied on his superior athletic gifts to make an impression. Unfortunately, game understands game in a grown mans NBA, and reality can smack you upside the head when your knee buckles.
Of course Woodson was extra tough on Shumpert. As the head coach, that is his responsibility. Diamonds are created by pressure, not coddling. Did anyone whine when Red Holtzman would swap out all his starters in disgust? This ain't a babysitting service. You either man up or take a seat. It's that simple.
Shump may have pouted, but in his heart he understands that when a coach is extra tough, that means he sees something worth challenging. The worst treatment any coach can give a young player is to ignore him.
That was the game. It was a real Knicks game, one that made me feel. And Iman Shumpert, man. "Holy Shump!", like Crackback and a few of y'all exclaimed, is right. Shump producing even half that much would make 2014 a whoooole lot better than the end of 2013. One narrow win over a great team doesn't make a turnaround, but even in isolation, Thursday night was great, if only for the opportunity to feel again.

Mike Woodson isn't Red Holzman not yesterday, not today and not Sunday against the Mavs.
He like Danphoney like to pick on gguys who are young and make less money than them.
Anger Management
playa - put down the fierce hatred for a minute and read the opening post carefully. Nowehere was it said, or implied, that Woodson is Holzman.
sheesh
meanwhile, Shumpert has 15 (6/9) and 5 assists with 3 rebounds so far
The only thing Carmelo needs is a sidekick
Make that 23 points (8/11) 5 assists and 4 rebounds
Bootleg Alert
knicks1248 - looks like melo may have a side kick after all
What a difference a shot maker makes. If Shump stays humble, and Bargnani ever decides to play basketball with passion, things could get interesting.

No anger, didn't Shump play well under Danphoney too, oh was it Woodson back then too ?
@HerringWSJ: Shumpert has his first back-to-back 20-point gms since March 28 & March 30 of 2012.
I think jr just kept messing up and still getting preferential treatment. Chris being waived may have symbolized to shump that jr isn't running things.

Interesting theory. Players HAD to know Chris was a scrub.

So how do you explain his coddling of JR?
Shump is not going to shoot the lights out every night....6 3 pointers in two straight games? so now he is going to do that every game? that would make him the greatest shooter to play the game.
Coming back down to earth...if Shump played his typical games he has been playing we lose to San Antonio and Houston by 20....
We need to remember what has been happening all year and act accordingly. Shump needs another address along with a lot of other guys including the coach
“Even if everything’s going wrong, you can still run hard, chase somebody down, get a block, get a steal, get a loose ball, get an offensive rebound. Those are things you can do whether you’re having a good night or a bad night. And those are the things I try to keep consistent.”

Has any reporter ask the team who's decision was it to keep Chris Smith on the roster ?

Plenty of times this year he totally dogged it. He plays when her feels like it just like the rest of the guys. Shump just watched Micharl jordans come fly with me as a kid so he knows what to say in interviews. Sick of this dude. Let's see how long he can shoot 95% from the field. When he cools off we'll get back to blaming Melo why he sucks

Find out who made the call on Chris Smith , that's when you will identify who's behind the Knicks sabotaging this season.

Playa thats not even what I'm talking about...
Wake me up when Shump averages 15/5/5 over a _large sample_ of minutes. Yes, it's nice to see him
Go off two games in a row but let's not annoint Woodson as Miyagi to Shump's Daniel-San until Shump
Shows he can do this over the course of a season.
Same me up when JR Bonehead is off the team

I agree but lets give credit to Woodson for sticking by Shump. Anytime he was interviewed during Shump's dark spell he said he had faith in him and that was why he kept starting him. Also, Shump was rumored to be moved but he hasn't been. No one knows what goes on behind the scenes but maybe Woodson has supported Shump staying. Woodson seemed to be very fond of Shump as a first/second year player. The transition to a vet/somewhat entitled player is hard for the coach and player. Personally, I think a lot of things were worked out when Chris Smith was waived.
