Yup, I have wanted nothing to do with blake since his rookie season. Dude gets punked by players every other game. He is basically another Amare with more rebounds and less heart. We have seen how that story ends when they lose their athleticism. I have not even opened that ESPN Clippers rumor thread. I don't think the Knicks are dumb enough to do a Blake for Melo swap.

You know what's really comical to me? Blake Griffin, according to the Melo-haters, is suppose to be this multi-dimensional player that affects the game in so many different ways. What some of you don't understand is few think Grif is a better player than Melo.
Question is do you want something in return for melo? Does Melo fit on the clips. Would he resign with that team.
Without the promise Melo carries very little trade value because of that leverage.
Its just business. Maybe another team like griff and we do a three way. Maybe Minny sees Love leaving and love would sign on with us. Then you do a three way. Is Love better than griff? Of course he is. Maybe Minny would rather have him then NOTHING which Love can provide them by just leaving when his time is up.

Yes, let us believe Doc who said similar things about him wanting out of Boston to go to L.A. He is very honest when speaking to the media because that is the thing to do when a deal is not done and uncertainty is all around.

Exactly! Most posters have absolutely zero interest in protecting melo but he only sees the world through melo-obsessed glasses so what can you expect. I just don't think Griffin is a star, he is a good player and great dunker that has been pumped up by the media because of his highlight reel potential. tkf: Let me preface this by saying that my opinion on Melo's basketball abilities aligns much closer to posters like you, Bonn, guns, dk7th, etc. I don't necessarily hate the guy personally but am not a fan of his game and think volume scoring is vastly overrated.
However, I would honestly be interested in your thoughts (or any other posters for that matter who is versed in advanced metrics)on the numbers NardDog posted comparing Blake to Carmelo. I am HORRIBLE at math, stats, all that stuff in general but I have faith in those basketball stats gurus like Morey, etc who do understand and evaluate this stuff and generally agree with their opinions.
Basically, if someone on here who is a stats person could address the numbers NardDog posted to compare the two id like to see a statistically based rebuttal instead of "don't bash Blake to defend Carmelo". I know for one you could say Blake is much younger and can improve. But what else? Honest question.
I also agree with GustavBahler that most fans wouldn't mind seeing Melo be traded if we got something halfway decent in return. Love him or hate him, signing one dimensional players on the wrong side of 30 to 120+ mil contracts isn't smart. Allan Houston, AHEM, cough, Allan Houston.

Yellowboy has some good numbers too but I would point a few things out:
A) From the beginning, it's a bad idea to base an analysis of two players on only 40% of one season.
B) Melo's and Blake's #s are closer this year than career-wise. This year, there probably isn't much of a difference between the two.
C) Career-wise, Blake is the more efficient scorer, better rebounder, and better passer.
D) Blake is younger and probably going to also be paid less in future years than Melo.
E) I wouldn't pursue Blake at his contract size but he's a good enough player that I'd be excited to have him.

Just to get this out of the way, Melo is my favorite player in the league (along with 1b's: Kobe, Boris Diaw, Carlos Boozer, Kevin Love, Brook Lopez, Marc Gasol and Andre Igoudala). Even so, I'm a bigger Knick fan, and know that the writing is on the wall: we don't have the means to improve the team, we likely won't get the tools to do so anytime soon AND Melo is likely to break down in the next few years. I want us to trade the dude yesterday and do a full rebuild to see what we can put together in the 2015 offseason.
The intent of this thread isn't to protect Melo. It's just to put things into perspective about Blake. I don't mind the guy but I don't think his game meets the hype of so many. There has been a lot of talk about him being better than Melo and I think it's nonsense. With CP3 gone this point is becoming clearer and clearer. That was my point, which tkf missed because of his blind, irrational hate of Melo.

However, I would honestly be interested in your thoughts (or any other posters for that matter who is versed in advanced metrics)on the numbers NardDog posted comparing Blake to Carmelo. I am HORRIBLE at math, stats, all that stuff in general but I have faith in those basketball stats gurus like Morey, etc who do understand and evaluate this stuff and generally agree with their opinions.
Basically, if someone on here who is a stats person could address the numbers NardDog posted to compare the two id like to see a statistically based rebuttal instead of "don't bash Blake to defend Carmelo". I know for one you could say Blake is much younger and can improve. But what else? Honest question.
I also agree with GustavBahler that most fans wouldn't mind seeing Melo be traded if we got something halfway decent in return. Love him or hate him, signing one dimensional players on the wrong side of 30 to 120+ mil contracts isn't smart. Allan Houston, AHEM, cough, Allan Houston.
I like advanced stats, but one thing I will use it for is when breaking down players who I feel are comparable and close... I just don't see that here..
I actually did something this year H1.. I went to both the clippers and knicks game this year here in Atlanta. I have floor seats.. I made it my business to watch both players. carmelo and blake without the ball... It isn't close..carmelo is lazy, and only works, if you call it that on the offensive end.. and he is lazy there as well because he doesn't move without the ball.. Blake is a tireless worker, if you watch this dude, he works as hard away from the ball, setting screens, boxing out, calling picks, rebounding than anyone I have seen in the league.. add on top of that he is not only a very good passer, but a willing one.... Blake is far from one dimensional... he is the kind of guy you insert in your lineup and his work ethic will be nothing less than infectuous... I am not looking for a guy like blake or any one player to "carry" a team.. that is just silly.. I want strong building blocks... I think blake is a very good BASKETBALL PLAYER... I think carmelo is a GOOD STREAK SCORER.... he is not a bum per say, but guys like him have a place and value that IMO are a lot less than he think and what we paid....
