Knicks · Detroit trade idea (page 1)

Josh Smith, Villenueva, and Stuckey for Melo and Jr

They get a good as they possibly can with a starting line up of monroe, nelo, drummond, jennings and jr smith. That's Damn good.

Knicks get a real power fwd and get back to being a defendive team. We build around josh, tyson, murry, shump, etc. We mske it happen for ourselves doing things how we want it. Woodson wants defense and rebounding. We make it happen between now and next season. Reload and get our souls back

IDK Eny. No offense, but these are the kind of guys (Villeneuva, Smith) Isiah would have gone after. Would probably see them on the back page for all the wrong reasons.
RonRon @ 1/7/2014 8:34 AM
throw in Felton and Pablo and get back another expiring or shorter deal
add a 2nd round pick (use it on Pierre Jackson)

They are expiring contacts

How is Smith an expiring contract? Didn't he just sign with Detroit?

Gotcha, just don't believe they would be a good fit. Haven't heard any complaints about Villeneuva in a while but coming back to NY might end up being like Marbury all over again and Smith has his issues as well.

You are trading Melo and not getting back any draft picks? C'mon man u can do better

Ok detroit gives up every draft pick they can until the zombie apocalypse. Does that make it better?

Charlie V would not play a game for us. Stuckey probably could start right away at point guard

I wouldn't want Josh Smith if Melo isn't here. What would be the incentive for us, especially since that move relegates us to being a lottery team?

Nalod @ 1/7/2014 10:41 AM
Melo re-up in Detroit???

I think there would be a good market for Melo but the key is where would he resign? And what team will pay him?

NYKBocker @ 1/7/2014 10:47 AM
Not a Josh Smith fan. Unless we get multiple 1st round picks, then the Knicks should not make this trade.

Okay, the deal is still bad...

I think we get the dumber Smith back in this trade. No thanks.

You have to think about the next move. This idea doesn't get us the championship but it's a steppibg stone to rebuilding a better team....

If you make it every pick AFTER the zombie apocalypse, you have a deal. Zombie Wilt Chamberlain would be awesome on our squad...oh wait, you already included Charlie V in the deal...

Charlie would be doing what he's doing now. Not playing. We could just waive him outright

I understand but the idea of paying premium price for a 30 year old that still heavily relies on his athleticism to be effective and that doesn't get you wins, makes me uneasy. I know that the draft is probably an even worse crap shoot but you at least get better cost-control and fewer drawbacks. I prefer that route than gambling on an established star signing with our bum franchise to then justify our acquisition of Josh Smith. We need to re-build and do so in a more dynamic manner if we move on from Melo.

H1AND1 @ 1/7/2014 12:25 PM
Sub in Monroe (or better yet Drummond but NO WAY DET gives him up) for Smith and I'm down. Smith is a HORRIBLE jump shooter who inexplicably heaves way too many long range twos and threes. Dude averages like 25% on his jumpers. No thanks.

Monroe, Stuckey, and Villanueva is better. Monroe is a young center on an expiring and we can ship out Chandler for a 1st rounder after completing the deal. Then, hopefully sign Monroe to a reasonable deal to be our center for the next couple years.

Actually, I didn't check if the salaries match but probably not...I'm sure they could figure something out.
