Knicks · Lawerence: Knicks D-League team maybe more mismanaged then the Knicks (page 1)

CrushAlot @ 1/8/2014 11:42 AM
The Knicks’ D-League team in Erie may be more mismanaged than its big-league team. Allan Houston, who is Erie’s GM, is insisting on keeping the present roster, despite the Bayhawks entering the weekend with a 1-11 mark, the worst record in the 17-team loop. Said one scout on Ricky Davis, the NBA veteran now playing for Erie: “He’s a negative presence. Among other things, he shoots when he shouldn’t.” Nothing’s changed there. But at least Davis hasn’t flooded the locker room, as he did last season when he played for Maine of the D-League and wasn’t happy with his situation.

Worst start in 17 years for our heir apparent. I guess Chris Smith wasn't rock bottom. Just waiting for Houston to say "I like our team" like Layden and Isiah did when the team was in the cellar.

Well looks like Allan Houston's grooming for the GM job is going great so far. If it wasn't for a lucky bounce off the rim in Miami, I swear Knicks fans wouldn't feel the same about this overrated jump shooter w/ the 100mm contract he's still working off.

Why is Ricky Davis even on the team? Great mentor for CJ Leslie.

Never was a fan myself. Houston never even considered expanding his game. Rarely hit game winners, play D, rarely drove to the rim, or a factor late in games. Not his fault Dolan bid against himself, but he still didn't do much on his end to show that he was worth it.

I guess this has turned into an indictment of Houston. He would fit in perfectly with the current team. Not enough fire in his game. Definitely was NOT a clutch player. We need a few less PC types and more fighters at the management levels. Think Danny Ainge biting off Tree Rollins finger during a scuffle. You know,FIRE

I remember Spree having to move to SF and defend and score on bigger players to accommodate Houston. He never complained about it. Would have been better off letting Houston walk and putting Spree at his natural position. Probably could have fielded a better squad with the cap room.

I couldn't care less what the D-League team's record is. My main concern is that our young players get a decent amount of reps. The problem is that there aren't many young players on this team who could be considered prospects for the Belgium League, forget about the NBA.

Ricky Davis???

Lets brin him up!!! Perfect for this knicks team!

He is a role model for CJ leslie. Coach says: "you watch ricky and pull that crap you'll be playing in iceland next week!!!"

Couldn't agree more!

We used to get into heated "discussions" about this on the old NYDailynews Forum

good gravy... I always wondered what the fk he was doing and the answer is, apparently, counting his money

Ian Begley ‏@IanBegley 5h
Chris Smith, J.R. Smith's brother, is back with the Erie Bayhawks, the #Knicks D-League team. He was selected from the available player pool

You can't make this stuff up.

Despite having been on assignment with Erie earlier in the year via the Knicks, the D-League affiliate did not own any specific rights to Smith. For the team to have reacquired the guard as a full-time minor league athlete, Smith would likely had to have cleared waivers after entering the D-League Player Pool this past weekend.

If a player like Smith clears waivers after going unclaimed for 48 hours, then any team in the NBADL is free to sign him without putting in some sort of priority claim.

For what it's worth, the D-Fenders are believed to have a decent spot on the league's team waiver wire. More on this if/when it becomes official.

I think this means Smith is double dipping. In addition to his guaranteed nba deal he now has a new, minor league contract.

I follow the D-League closely and am fully aware of Erie's terrible record. The roster is piss poor, on par with the worst Knicks summer league roster you can come up with in the last 10 years. Come on now -- an open roster spot and they're bringing back Chris Smith? Huh? FOR WHAT??? Love H2O, appreciate everything he did for us, he's a humble, low key, articulate guy, but there's no way he's even in the discussion for the Knicks GM position if and when we move on from Mills. He's shown nothing at all running that club and more importantly, I don't think he's learning a damn thing down there. If he is -- what exactly and from who? I said it a few weeks ago in my Tom Penn thread when someone recommended Houston for the GM seat -- let's see him have success at the DL level first before he's ever considered for any type of mgmt. position with the big club. The Bayhawks are the laughing stock of that league right now.

Loved him as a player but geeze. Sounds like a crap GMing job he is doing.

Finest have you followed DeWayne Dedmon at all. I was emailed a highlight film of him and the kid looked really good.

i have absolutely ZERO interest in having this dude as part of the front office. not a fan of allan houston. his contract was why i stopped watching the knicks until kneuckleheadbury came along to create a morbid fascination with the knicks again.

Agreed, Houston was as one dimensional as it gets and Spree was always the better player. Dolan the dry drunk always preferred choir boy Houston, though. Sigh.

And now it seems he is a shyte GM. Surprise surprise.

We fired Grunwald. Expect the Knicks talent pool to get a lot more shallow

I've seen a little bit. I like him. I see a 7' that can play and impact the game.
