Knicks · What's the difference Between (page 1)

playa2 @ 1/15/2014 6:44 AM
An NBA owner who's bottom line is not to go over the salary cap and making big profits for his business interest. Competing for a Championship isn't a priority.

VS

A NBA player who's main desire is to make the most money possible after his rookie contract, regardless if the team he's on cares about competing for or winning a Championship ?

Who gets more flak from media and fans ? WHY ?

Andrew @ 1/15/2014 7:35 AM
Give us an example for the NBA player.
arkrud @ 1/15/2014 7:59 AM
Chip is the goal of the franchise.
Player goal is to be the best he can be.
This will grant him paycheck he deserve and give him a chance to be a part of the contender.
And this is not only about bbal but also about player being smart with hiring the agent and in his off-court life.
Yes, there is some luck involved but statistically every player at the end get what he deserve, HOF or bust.

Ben Gordon, OJ Mayo,

Ben Gordon was a real shame- he ruined his career. The difference between what the Bulls were offering and what the Pistons gave him wasn't that much- I bet he regrets his decision. I get wanting to make the most money you can, but also ball players only have a short career, then it's over. Not sure if wasting your career with a terrible team is worth a few million. OJ Mayo had his shot with the Mavs- he's just not that good.

Why no demeaning comments towards owners.

Who gets more flak (owners or players) from media and fans & WHY ?

Bonn1997 @ 1/15/2014 2:31 PM
Why all the indirect questions? You got a point you want to make?

Owners have a greater sense of entitlement and are more greedy, there used to be more who cared about the game, but they're a dying breed. Seems the more money involved the greedier people get.

Bonn, smackeddog understood me so what's your problem.

The point is why do players have to care about winning a Championship and not go for more money, but the owners get a pass for not caring about winning a championship one for his franchise.

there has been an inflection point in the nba brought about by stern, who is largely responsible for ruining the sport in order to save the league. imagine what would have occurred had both bird and johnson not arrived when they did.

so what we have is a battle between [a] commerce/entertainment/money on the one hand and [b] winning titles/work ethic/professionalism on the other. there is a pretty large middle ground here.... bottom line as a player winning requires sacrifice of one sort or another. and an owner must take risks and respect the cycle of winning and losing, which in effect is also a form of sacrifice. with dolan he wants to have his cake and eat it too. melo shares this viewpoint. isiah, marbury yuuuck

but the trouble starts at the top. if the owner is a swine then he will attract swine. no owner gets a pass from me since he is the root of the problem.

Allanfan20 @ 1/16/2014 10:01 AM
Because those NBA players are black so it's not OK but the most of the owners are white so it's totally cool.

That is the point of this thread and if Playa wants to deny it then he's full of crap.

Allanfan20 @ 1/16/2014 10:02 AM
For the record, I do not hold that view in the first sentence of that last post.
Allanfan20 @ 1/16/2014 10:04 AM
And yes, a ton of NBA owners most likely care nothing more than to make the extra dollar, as is with a lot of the players.

Wow dude you have no idea what I was thinking, why would you make up a lie like that and then try and sell it ?

Ben Gordon, OJ Mayo,

LOL Im sure some of these guys are happy to be paid--but what type of evidence can you bring forth that says these guys dont want to play on a winning team?
Heck we could use Ben Gordon right now--hope he gets released.

You take less money to play on winning team, even good players are doing that now these days(see Miami) when their #1 goal is winning a championship.

Why wouldn't role players do the same?

playa2 @ 1/16/2014 10:55 PM
Some time I think players are lack luster because owners don't care about winning, perfect example was Vince Carter in Toronto.

The misconception is they tell the player one thing , but their moves with personnel say something different.
