A. Commit to rebuilding this team head to toe. Come up with a style of play with GM and coaches that are on the same wave length. Acquire players who fit the mold of the style.
B. Put more stock into the PG (s) of the team. I would even consider a style of playing 2 PG's if the synergy was right. It does not have to be the dominant position of the team--but I believe in this new NBA that a PG or guards who can control the game on both heads as the decision maker and head of the defense is highly important. In the past building the team from the front back made most sense--now it is back to front.
C. Make sure all facets of building a team are created equal. The drafting process is just as important as trades or free agency
D. No more multi laden asset deals--meaning--NEVER trade good young players AND draft picks in any deal. It has not worked for 15 years.
E. Have a highly competent younger GM who has success run the team without disruption from ownership with a quality staff. This is probably the most important part.
F. Value character--Try to find leaders not followers
G. Build it inside out. Indiana's core is built on picks 13 21 and 41. You can acquire players who go around and fit the team you have assembled.
H. This is just basketball. The Garden operates as if they have nuclear documents they are in charge of. Open up access and form a friendlier disposition with media. This is one of the reasons free agents are tainted against the Knicks for this reason
I Whatever we did with Chris Smith this year--never do it again.
J. Other than Hardaway and Shumpert--get rid of any vet left on this team over the next two years. If Jeremy Tyler Cole Aldrich and Toure Murry want to be on this team--they have to earn it
If A. Is to commit to a Coach and GM and come up with a style of play, you can't go on to say which player to put stock in and who should be kept and who should be traded..

id only add:
- at this point Shumpert is expendable too. i get that YOUTH is the reason to keep him around but not at all costs
- hire anyone from the san antonio spurs system. whether its at GM or head coach
- yes find an elite PG that can run the team/ surround him with "3d" players (defensive studs who can hit 3s)

In regards to point J, if they were to do a complete overhaul (I would be really surprised by this) then Shump HAS TO GO! The guy has a huge ego, has not done much to improve his overall game, and is a finger pointer. Not the kind of attitude I would want on the team going forward from a mediocre player if they were to gut the roster. THJ has shown a lot and also has been one of the few good teammates this year. He should absolutely stay.
I don't care the age of the GM we should get but it would be better if he was a bit more charismatic and allowed to speak!
I don't care if Dolan owns the team as long as there is a plan and a process. He is the owner and his is input in would be expected but he must keep it within the discipline, not based on emotionality.
Sprewell, Starks, etc were moody but you would take them on your team all day

I'd be happy with this point alone. I'd be content just as long as I knew we had a competent with a plan. I don't need to agree with every decision, but I need to full confident that the decisions weren't pulled out of someone's butt.

He misses way to many wide open shots IMO for him to be improved with a real PG.

He has an inability to finish. Runs up the court with the basketball like chicken wit it's head cut off. Shump is a major weakness. Has real difficulty in playing a perfect game. Just to many weaknesses.

You are correct, everything starts with the front office.
Dolan will never hire a General Manager under 50 years old, without a big résumé.

i see only 3 choices:
1. stop watching basketball.
2. find another team to invest in.
3. stfu and take what the knicks are giving you.
but most choose an unnecessary 4th:
4. be unhappy, complain, yet still follow the knicks despite everything.
the knicks will never be a well run franchise as long as dolan operates this way.

That's the thing. How does he go about using that information. Does he understand the urgency of taking this approach or is it all fancy talk?
Mills doesn't even have experience being a GM!
We need basketball people making decisions. I know his father was a high school coach for a long time but we need someone who understands the NBA today. The cba, metrics, players and has a good relationship with other GM's
