Knicks · Let's get something straight (page 3)

Those guys were on rookie contracts which allowed their teams to add guys like Shaq and KG

Those are the teams that have won the past 30yrs

Detroit with Larry brown is the only exception and I believe they drafted Rip

Spurs drafted Duncan, Parker and Ginobili

Yes, these are examples of teams that drafted great players. Where is the example of a great draft pick for the Knicks? They don't have one because they suck. Forget draft picks, give me one example of a great, draft pick, trade or FA signing the Knicks have made? You cannot give me one because the Knick management is not capable of doing anything great. So why do you think they can manage trading Melo, letting him walk or adding FAs or great players through the draft?

The way I see it, the only real play is to resign Melo and hope he can attract talented players to NY. That is the only thing the Knicks can do short of the commish banning Dolan the way baseball banned Steinbrenner.

gunsnewing @ 1/27/2014 9:31 AM
It's sad when you have to go all the way back to Patrick Ewing in 1985. I agree

This is why I'm close to being done with this team

gunsnewing @ 1/27/2014 9:38 AM
Now we got to hope we put the right guys around an aging Melo. It would've been nice to have our lottery pick this year

We have next years lottery pick by default since you can't trade consecutive picks but we might not be bad enough to be in the lottery once Woodson is fired

lets get something straight, playa. so by your statement with no dominant veteran leadership in Pacers, you feel they dont have a chance of beating Miami, yes?
gunsnewing @ 1/27/2014 9:53 AM
They haven't won yet but
Indiana drafted George and Hibbert
Okc Durant and Westbrook and Harden!!

David West, Granger and CJ Watson can give them a chance.

Last year Granger and CJ Watson weren't there.

Bonn1997 wrote:Yeah, we realize by now that that's your point

You seem to be taking that point and jumping to the conclusion that the draft is unimportant and teams need to starphuck

Do you think it's just a coincidence that almost all the players you listed were drafted by the teams they won championships with?

Not when they were young without seasoned vets around them leading the way.

I'm not knocking the draft, I'm knocking the deception that you win with young draft picks. They have to grow and stay on your team and they they are linked up with season vets to lead them that's all i'm saying.

Draft picks with no season vets to lead them will only bring you hope and potential , no Championships.

Oh, well then I agree with you and I think everyone else here does too.

Harden did not leave via free agency. He was traded for assets. They actually got some pretty good players back.

IN the new era the CBA really allows for 2 max players.

So you better have the balance right. They spend money in other areas not just in Harden. Im not sure there were enough shots for Harden anyway.

By trading him a team can perpetuate itself with other assets.

Forget the past, the new CBA is a different animal and perhaps dynasties are a thing of the past. The matrix to success is different and the clever teams in my opinion are the ones that can draft guys and then evaluate the chemistry. Maybe Harden was seen as the odd man out and a combo of young players and picks is how you stay ahead.

A guy like Lebron is so rare as he is a facilitator and makes those around him "better". They are suseptable now with Wade beyond his "prime". They won last year by staying relevant most of the year getting a good seeding and keeping Wade rested as much as possible.

The addition on paper of Bargnani at age 28 seeme reasonable as he can still reach some potential and in his "prime". With JR seemingly ready to break out heading into this season it was a gamble I can understand. It game Stat all season to play back into shape.

I'd even say it was working but injuries have been awful (Luck), JR has regressed and our PG play has been awful. Shump has also regressed.

Hardaway has been a nice suprise but he is a rookie and they hit walls. I know fans like to extrapoplate good play but guys like Murry and Tyler are not to be trusted and need to be bought along slowly. We think sometimes coachs hold them back when they eventually break out but the reality is holding them back PREPARES THEM FOR THE BREAKOUT!

Lets not forget, Kobe needed 2 years before he became Kobe and Indy has been a work on progress for a few years.

I might add that with our asset base drafting players and developing them around Melo is not a sound strategy in my opinion. To do that you must parlay him into an asset more suitiable.

Thus, if you keep Melo Im not sure how you do this with the exception of cap space we get in a year.

I was very excited last year when SAS nearly beat the Heat but the concept of having the core in their prime together proved correct.

If Kwai Leonard was more advance they might have won, if Ginobli was a bit younger they might have won. If Timmy was a bit more younger.....Etc. They came darn close!!!!! But Heat core was still in the prime and they pulled it out.

OKC with Westbook might be the team this year. Losing Harden was about keeping Ibaka. They are 35-10 without Westbrook. A series with Indy would be a great matchup in the finals!

gunsnewing @ 1/27/2014 11:23 AM
We would've drafted and then traded Stephen Curry

Yoots and draft choices and endless cap space.

It's the drink of choice for all the fantasy league, NBA Subject Matter Experts, GM wannabes never will bes on the internet. Guys who are so enamored with their own worldview and spin on things that everything else takes second place. Including the actual team and the players on it. Reality can be really....boring.

Building a team in your image. Very satisfying. It's great to root for yourself and your own creation. Clap clap clap.

It's the little league dad in all of us, just dying to get out.

No one said Harden left via FA. Playa said he went somewhere else to make more money and that's exactly what happened. You build a core and then watch the core players leave to go make more money.

but that core they built helped them stay competitive. Harden was replaced with young talent and another talent that is a pretty good 6th man.

Durant and Westbrook didn't leave

I believe they go Reggie Jackson for harden and he is having a great year for them. Lamb is good too

Stay competitive become just entertainment and don't win a Championship.

We already know what that is like, people want a Championship before they die , see Papabear and others.

Young bucks want the money , then they will stay for a Championship. Harden will stay in Houston not OKC. Howard won't stay in Orlando but will stay in Houston.

Just because you have draft picks, it doesn't mean they are going to stay and help your team win a championship.

Vets stay because they already made there big money and want to win a championship, that who you build your core with not Yoots.
